I've had their service since the beginning in my area, and have always been satisfied with it. Some problems at times, but hey.. It happens...

Best service as to configuration, you only have to have a NIC in your computer, and voila!

Now, if they could just remove the cap that exists on HS service, my review would go up another notch...

I now have VoIP and find it very adequate. Up until now, I can't make the difference between my old POTS service and this one. Exactly the point IMHO. So good experience here

Update, sept 2008: Still good service with Vidéotron, still has the cap though...

I have been a long time customer with Videotron since before the extreme - unlimited was stopped. I was one of the lucky people to actually receive the letter saying that its no longer unlimited so I canceled.

I moved and was looking for another internet provider. I saw that Videotrons 7Mbps internet had a cap of $30 overages and the 10Mbps was $26 more expensive so I figured that I might as well get the slower speeds but unlimited with the $30 overages.

Everything was going well for a few months so when I saw my monthly usage was about 75 - 85gb a month I decided to go to the higher speeds. I signed up in December and in February I changed my plan. Everything was ok because when I upgraded they reassured me that it still a max of $30 overages.

I moved again and when moving my services I canceled my TV services because now I have satellite. Things now start to get interesting because I got a bill with an extra $100 added to it because of overages and when I called back to change back to the 7mbps with $30 overages they told me no problem but they are renewing my contract just like they did in February without telling me.

I don't mind paying for quality services but their shady business practices just cost them another customer and I spend about $250 - $300 a month with them.

As a side note if you are with them or are thinking about changing to them, make sure that when the tech comes to your house that he is driving a Videotron truck and is an official Videotron tech because if its a contractor then he will just mess everything up. The first contractor cut my satellite wires because he was too lazy to install his own. The second contractor stole my powered splitter/booster which is far from being cheep and the third one was so incompetent that I told him to get out of my house before I pushed him down the stairs because he would not listen to me and kept showing me his blackberry with the wrong info as if it makes everything ok.

All in all the internet is good but too bad its being run by morons and crooks.

After two weeks and two technicians who didn't have the necessary tool to install (fiche to pass cable underground) I personally rented one myself and called them over. They were all polite and installation took an hour for the Duo Plan (High Speed and Telephone).

Videotron is the only broadband provider in my area. Strangely Bell calls me every month to sign up DSL followed by an apology explaining it's not available. I knew the unreasonable bandwidth restrictions and exorbitant surcharge fees before signing up but I had no choice.

I wish you could buy extra bandwidth on demand like Bell's 30GB for 10$. I asked Videotron support and they only have SPEED ON DEMAND without increasing the cap! defeats the purpose! For 60$ I expect a cap around 60GB to 100GB.

The telephone service is just as good and Bell. Be prepared to get a doze sob cards, letters, calls begging to switch back.

Update: Switched to Videotron Business, and what a difference!! zero wait time for support, same speed with no caps, a bit pricey but well worth it. Especially Basic Internet + telephone for 67$ per month (a dollar more than residential).

    My Other Reviews·TekSavvy Solutions..
Ok well I'm leaving Videotron. After three bills over $240-275 a month for triple play ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
They just get me too upset this last time.
In June when my high-speed Internet kept bumping me $30 a month in extra-downloads from my kids streaming music 24/7 I opted for the $74.60 ultra-high speed with no measurable increase in data speed and upped my limit to 100Gb. Bad timing on my part because with the kids away we are down to 20Gbs.
But what got me really p *& OFF was that Lately my network has to be rebooted because the system fails to reach IPs on the WAN... easy ones like hydroquebec.com...
I called Vid to say I wasn't very satisfied and their customer "loyalty" officer told me I would have to pay $120 to leave because I was on a auto renew from June...
YOU want war, YOU got it!
I looked around and for $108 TAX IN a month I will get MORE from Montreal DSL /Techsavvy then I ever did with Videotron
    200Gb/month limit
2phones lines : 1 with 3 services voice mail, call display and call waiting, the other with unlimited NA America calling
The sign up fees are a bit steep at over $200 with the modem but I figure to recoup that in less than 4 months AND for $3.00 a month you can have a fixed IP if you so wish... NOW DSL Montreal don't make me regret this!!!!!!!
On to replacing cable... anybody got some pet rocks to replace the TV?

    Hmmm...

I feel bad for you. You think this is Videotron's fault if you can't control your kids? This is ridiculous. As for the problem with some domains how did you came to the conclusion the problem wasen't on your network? Did you actually try to diagnose the problem at all beside calling Videotron? Oh btw, it's 120$ PER service you want to cancel so you will owe 360$ to Videotron if you choose to quit. Have a nice day.

    Total Waste Of Money

Videotron is a complete waste of money. If people actually bothered to shop around for internet they would realize that Videotron is a total scam. There are so many ISP's out there that offer much higher caps or unlimited (Teksavvy comes to mind). It's a good thing you've decided to leave. Good For you!

    Videotron is the best

Videotron is the best service you can get in Quebec and you can say whatever you want of their technical service, its 24hrs a day and not in India like the rest of them. DSL sucks big time compared to cable, and people who cant control the downloads of their children are the ones responsible. End of story.

Videotron is indeed a GREAT quality service. Their speeds are constantly high just as advertised. The problems is : the price. For the caps that you have, the ammount they charge per month is pure rape.

well i cant complain about the speed from videotron, what i can complain on is the high cost and extra $$$ spent per month when you exceed your limit.im not a bell fan but i gotta say they have the unlimited download that i find very attractive to my wallet.and videotron fix your problems damn modem always resets which mean i loose all phone calls.you wanna charge more you better give a better service.

The above pretty much sums it up for me: a pretty fast connection but with a download limit of 20G it is too expensive.

I personally got very bad experience with their customer service. When I wanted to quit their service a year ago, the Videotron agent matched the rate of the competition for the entire year. But after six months, the rate went back to normal Videotron level ($25 a month more). when I complained to Videotron, they said they would inquire and call me back. That never happened. So i called again, was promised to be called back, but they didn't. This repeated a couple of times. The reason that they never returned the call as promised was not because they were away or something: they did find the time to send me a notification that if I didn't pay the $150 they were overcharging me, they would hand over my file to a collection agency. If anybody has similar experience, I'd be very interested in hearing about it. In the end I decided to pay the extra $25 a month they charged me and stopped the internet service with Videotron when the contract finally expired.

order: the lady knew her job, it was really fast. I got the installation 2 days after, couldn't expect better than that :P

I have analog TV, high speed internet, telephony. pay 110$ a month.

technical support: I called them a few times (not always for my account, but also for some friends). I can't really judge the quality, as I knew exactly what to ask...it's always faster and easier when you know their job :P

QOS is perfect, only had 2 troubles over the year, one was with the dns, but I didn't really care, just switched dns and it was ok. second was a network trouble, lasted 1h, I wasn't there, so I didn't even see it but my roomate did :P

I'm gonna quit internet service soon, because 20 GB cap is not enough for me. I always have to check my bandwidth usage 5 days before the end of then month.... for example this month, I'm close to the red zone cause I dled ubuntu, a set of docs, programs, fretsonfire and a set of songs for the game...

    alright, update on march 28th.
I called to cancel my services, internet and phone. I had everything prepared in advanced, talked with 2 competent agents, from customer service and retention. My internet will be cancelled on the date of april 26th, I keep the phone line. Here's how I presented things: calc how much it'd cost me to go to adsl, dry loop fees around 120$ for the year, so I asked for a discount of 120$ to keep the service. I got everything I requested and kept phone service. and I will keep it, the service is excellent.

It's the only one in Quebec, no competition. I hope competition starts soon so we can receive the Cisco wideband terminal from Videotron which should be available soon, now that will be something else, 50-100MB download and 10-30MB upload.

They've been listening to their customers ?!

You gotta be kidding me !

Their customers have asked for unlimited internet. Videotron used BAIT and SWITCH by providing the Expreme tier with unlimited transfers and later on capping it at 100GB braking the contracts that the users signed !

Now, they don't offer any unlimited plan !

You call this listening to their customers ?!

What about upload bandwidth ? Even in the states, the cable cos are offering upload in the 2Mbps+ while Videotron is still not even approaching 1Mbps.

So much for listening to their customers..

I have had very few problems with my internet. When I used to have problems, I'd have to wait forever to get help, or the technician would take forever. That has improved over the last few years.
I don't know all this unlimited stuff you're talking about..so I'm sorry it affected you negatively.

I have been with Videotron for a few years now, 5 or 6. I always had a great service. I have the illico service, High-Speed Internet and the cable phone line. They all work great. I dont have HD TV yet.

I use my Internet for gamming, many hours a week and I always have one of the best ping on the servers I play. No downtime. I only have for a combine 7-8Gb or bandwith used every month.

I've been with Videotron for more than 5 years, for now with the 7mbps/820kbps service.I tried their 10mbps Extreme high speed service but didn't see much difference in speed in most of my uses. The connection is very reliable, tech support is variable, I had better luck calling them in daytime, even if you wait longer in line, still preferable in my opinion than dealing with someone who doesn't seem to know what you're talking about in the evening. Installation went smoothly the 2 times I moved and overall I'm satisfied with the service.

My only gripe is the caps, 20Gb download and 10Gb upload is very low considering the streaming content that is now available on the net. I bust the limit frequently and I don't download via torrents. Very expensive per gigabyte.

    You're right

You're right. At $1.50/GB it wouldn't be that bad but at $7.95 it's crazy. I wanted to switch to DSL but I only get 3.0 here so I'm stuck with limited 7.1 VS throttled 3.0.

At least we still have the $30 maximum penalty right? The old customers weren't updated to $50 right?
