I ordered internet online, and process is pretty smooth. Although the technician came in a few minutes late(I think the appointment was around 10am-12pm, the technician came around 12:05pm). First he checked the cables outside, and drilled a hole so the cable can go through. He installed an Ambit modem (forgot the model number), which now I am using my own modem, Motorola SB6141. Everything went smooth, until when the technician was about to leave, my neighbor came out and told the technician that he disconnected his TV cable. The technician quickly installed a splitter, and no problems. Overall I am fine with my internet speeds, no outages, no slow-downs (almost all the time), and I am pretty fine with it. Although I want competition. Besides TWC, only AT&T serves in our area as well. But they are only offering up to 1.5mbps DSL, which is completely irreverent in terms of speeds and pricing. I would want AT&T to have Uverse coverage in our area, not because I want to switch back, it's because I want competition in case if TWC soars up prices on me. Update 12/4/13 - Time Warner keep charging me for modem rental, even though I have been using my SB6141 for more than a month. The lady over the live chat was nice enough to remove the fee. So I guess another problem solved. But seriously Time Warner, fix your billing systems. It looks like the billing system is more "profit" wise than accuracy. This is already the second mistake Time Warner did. The first time was charging me for installation fee even though it was free. And I am dropping the pre-sales 25% lower because of that. Update 12/16/13 - During the past few days, my internet connection was pretty terrible. I am getting over 200ms+ ping, and also packet loss. Speed was also dramatically decreased, making it a terrible browsing experience. Because of that, I am dropping connection reliability 25% lower. Update 4/9/14 - Everything is still fine, getting full speeds almost all the time, maybe with the exception of peak times. I will have to see about pricing changes after my 2nd year promotion (which ends in august), plus the upcoming MAXX upgrades (if it ever happens in my area). Update 6/16/14 - Connection problems are getting worse lately. I don't know what is going on, but I am getting packet losses/high ping issues, sometimes few times a week, sometimes as worse as few times a day... can't even play any online games with my connection. For this, I am taking off another 25% from connection reliability. Might have to contact TWC about this if this keeps happening. No TWC MAXX upgrades yet, still sticking with 8 download channels and 1 upload channel. Update 7/31/14 - Just upgraded to Turbo as a part of negotiation, since they are going to charge me $50 for standard, so I called their retention department and the promotional price for turbo is all they can offer me. I said yes, and saved $5 a month, for now. I should be more aggressive next time when I am negotiating with TWC. No TWC MAXX upgrades yet, but we will see how it goes later this year. Update 11/13/14 - After month and months of desperation, TWC MAXX has finally arrived to my area, and at the same time, they announced the completion of TWC MAXX upgrades in New York and Los Angeles. I am getting 69/11 for now, because my router isn't gigabit capable. Connection reliability has gotten better now, I will raise 25% for connection reliability. I will update once I get my new router. Update 1/3/15 - I recently got my new router from T-Mobile, the T-mobile Personal CellSpot (Model number TM-AC1900). It's essentially the same as the RT-AC68U, with a modified firmware. Since it's free to rent (as date of 12/21/14, now sure when they will end the free rental, you pay $25 deposit regularly), and I needed a new router to handle the new speeds, it's perfect for my needs. I am getting full speeds now for my Turbo Plan (now Ultimate 100), usually around 108/11. So far, everything is good. Update 7/17/15 - I rebooted the modem and router this morning, and got the over-provisioning speed bump like other users mentioned in the TWC forums. I am getting from 108/11 to now up to 118/12. Not a huge difference, but it's a nice little speed bump. Other than that, everything is working fine. Update 11/27/18 - TWC is no more, Charter Spectrum has been here since about 2 years ago. Nothing changed too much, I am still getting reliable speeds as always. In terms of equipment, I now have the E31T2V1 DOCSIS 3.1 modem (Technicolor version), same router (TM-AC1900 flashed to AC68U. The modem is good, but too bad I can't access the modem status page. Update 8/25/19 - After disconnecting and reconnecting back for internet service, it seems that I got upgraded to 200/10 for free, not official since rate cards still states 100/10 for standard. Not too sure why that happened, but I will take the free upgrade. Update 5/19/21 - The whole pandemic situation has increased the use of the internet in general, but it remained stable for me during this whole time. Everything seems to work as usual. Update 11/5/23 - There has been various upgrades in speeds, and Spectrum now is giving me a free upgrade to 500/20 for the same cost of $50/month, so I am not exactly complaining. However, reliability had not been the best compared to before, every once a while I do have to restart the modem to get internet back on. member for 10.6 years, 3223 visits, last login: 4 days ago updated 133 days ago
After more than 20 years with Spectrum (and TWC), I've switched to fiber. Speed is much better (500/500) and at a reasonable cost. I've given up cable. Will use a combination of antenna and streaming going forward. I definitely recommend switching to fiber if you have that option. I'll leave this review up for those interested. Final speed on their standard service was 10/300 and I tested around 12/250. ---------------------------------------------- *** Please skip to the end of this review for the latest update. *** I've had Time Warner Desert Cities since 2001. I started with 3M down and 384k up way back then. Now it's advertised as 15/1 but apparently over-provisioned slightly to make up for removal of powerboost, a feature that gave us a brief burst to the cable's full bandwidth. Over the years I've had two issues with poor signal quality which were rectified by truck-rolls. Initial calls to tech support weren't helpful and I had to talk to three different people before they'd send someone out. The techs they did finally send were helpful though. More recently TWC has installed some auto monitoring systems to proactively fix problems on the network and in the last year they've upgraded to DOCSIS 3. I purchased a D3 modem to avoid the monthly $6 fee. They currently bond 4 downstream channels but only use one upstream channel in the old D1.1 mode. That leads me to my major complaint, namely the lack of upstream bandwidth. I regularly upload HD videos to YouTube and at the recommended bitrate of 8Mb/s, a 20 minute video takes over 2 1/2 hours. I wish they would offer at least 10Mbits of upstream, but alas the fastest they offer is 5Mbits, on par with Sprint's LTE network. They need to step up their game here. My brother gets 35Mbits up on FiOS. Otherwise the service is OK. Reliability since the above mentioned problems has been good and it definitely beats DSL. Time Warner should set their sights higher, though, and try to beat FiOS and the emerging wireless networks before it's too late. 4G tethering, anybody? UPDATE Sept. 2015 ------------------------ DSL Reports has asked me to update my review and I'm happy to do so. Since my last posting, 8x4 bonding has become active though still no speed increases. Word is TWC is planning a new round of upgrades known as MAXX, which should increase speeds by a factor of five (both up and down). Rumor was we'd have it by end of summer but that's apparently been postponed until after the all-digital transition coming later this year. I'll write more when/if that happens. UPDATE Nov. 2016 ----------------------- It's been over a year and time for another update...Time Warner Cable is no more, having been purchased by Charter. Service is now offered under the "Spectrum" brand. The upgrades promised for summer 2015 have yet to materialize for me, though neighboring areas are achieving speeds of up to an advertised 10/100 on the new standard internet plan. That's pretty good for most folks with today's usage patterns (video streaming, etc). I hope my area will be upgraded soon. The available packages have changed, making it more expensive if you want to continue receiving TV channels offered as standard on the old TWC plans. There isn't much flexibility, either. For example, the "Triple Play Select" package (TV, internet, and phone) costs $90 (plus some extra fees). Not bad for all three. But what if you don't want phone? It's still $90. And to get channels like TCM requires you to buy HBO, Shotime, and Cinemax as well for $110. Let me close on a positive note (and hopefully assuage some criticism) by saying I think TWC/Spectrum has been a solid provider for over 15 years now. There is no better internet service in my area. I wouldn't have stayed with them if I thought otherwise. If you can get the 10/100 plan along with whatever TV/phone service you desire for an acceptable price--go for it. You won't be disappointed. I'll be calling them again next month to see whether they have any new plans that meet my specific needs (yours may be different!) at a better price and--rest assured--will switch if that's the case. Happy surfing. UPDATE 5/2017 ------------------- Bit the bullet and upgraded to a true Spectrum plan. To get the desired channels I had to sign up for the Silver package. With that, two cable boxes and 10/100 internet the price is now $165. Certain channels sometimes drop out but other than that the service has good reliability. I continue to wish for more upstream bandwidth but that will likely have to wait until D3.1 Full-bandwidth is deployed, probably not for several years yet. My biggest complaint continues to be the high price. As long as they have a monopoly though that isn't likely to change. We use a 4G cellular back-up with a Peplink Balance series router to keep the internet on when T-W/Spectrum fails. And ... did I say it is EXPENSIVE for what we get? member for 8.1 years, 1346 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 1.2 years ago

speed is actually 400/20. I but I swear that I saw it listed as 500/25 on my account page last week. LOL whatever! I still plan on keeping them. I don't seem to have the issues that others seem to have with connectivity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- update on 8/17/2022 another update for TWC (now Spectrum/Charter) Still on the middle tier of their service but service was just bumped up for free to 500down/25up. We now have Metronet as an alternate provider (Fiber). They are offering a very good introduction offer for one year. But since I am probably moving soon, I'll be keeping Spectrum for now. ---------------------------------------------------------------- update on 8/22/2020 just updating my review of Spectrum Internet. I upgrading back in April to the 2nd level of their internet speed (400/20). My 1yr contract had ended and felt it was time to get the speed bump. I feel the price is worth what i am getting with very limited outages and no caps that i have seen. My speedtest normally get 475/24mb. They have 1gb available but with my children moving out i feel what i have now is acceptable. But no matter how much they try, i will not be getting their TV packages. Those are way to expensive and i can watch most of the shows i like over the internet. Update on 1/25/18 It's been a long time since I reviewed my service with Time Warner (now Spectrum). My service i have now is internet only but I just upgraded equipment and speed from TWC. I had TWC Ultimate which here in the Dayton, Oh area is 50/5. Now that Spectrum has pretty much taken over all operations from TWC, they just are starting to advertise 100/10 speeds. So I drive to my local payments/help center to see what I can get. The sales lady was extremely friendly & knowledgeable with her info. She was able to cancel my old service and start up new service in about 20 minutes. I took my new equipment home and had no issues hooking it up. Ran a few speedtest and was easily getting my rated speed plus extra. I am paying now $45 a month for a year then goes up to $65 a month after that (which is still a good deal in my opinion). I hope their next step is gigabit speeds or close to it. Columbus & Cleveland both just got gigabit so we will see. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Update on 8/20/08 I now have the package deal (digital phone, internet, cable) for $140 per month. I believe we just got a bump up in speed on the internet again (haven't talked to TWC yet) but getting around 20MB/768K. I pay extra for turbo package on the internet. I picked up cable (basic channels) when I moved because too many trees for DirecTV to get a good enough signal. Digital phone is fine except when the power goes out (that's what cell phones are for). I still think it a good deal though. Customer service is always hit or miss. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Overall the service I have through Time Warner is great. I have had them for 2 years now. I had earthlink before and they were fine too. When I upgraded to the premium Time Warner was cheaper. So I switched. There are rarely in outages here in the Dayton are (I live in Huber Heights, Oh). I get close to the speed they advertise. I think they just recently bumped up the speeds again. I now am getting 15Mb/768kb. I hope this help those who are considering getting Time Warner. The best deal is to get full package of cable TV, digital phone, high speed internet. I don't because I already have Directv. The cost that is listed includes the digital phone and turbo internet. UPDATE 07-24-2022: Spectrum for internet, TV, and phone at home. Paying way too much, and just discovered that Spectrum no longer offers the whole-house DVR program, so if one of my DVRs goes kaput, I will lose whole-house DVR ability in that room. Bummer. Very disappointing to say the least. I never get close to the 200 Mbps I'm supposed to get. UPDATE 11-165-2017: I now have Spectrum phone/internet at work. It's a 100/10 plan, and here's what I actually get: UPDATE 01-06-2017: Speed tests in the 60/6 range consistently. Only issue is up to 1400ms bloat. Otherwise, no downtime whatsoever since my last review. Phone works well. What's not to like? UPDATE 12-6-2015: My reviews really go back a long time! Internet speed is consistent and haven't had any downtime. Having fairly significant issues with the phone service, however. Sometimes it sounds like we're under water, and other times people don't know that we have answered the phone, and hang up. This also happens with outgoing calls. Their phone service needs to be worked out better. I have had to reset the phone modem a number of times. UPDATE 1-8-2015: Received my free Dell laptop/tablet yesterday as part of the Signature Home promotion. Others have said they received a refurbished one, but mine is new. Of course, TWC put all their programs on it before sending it to me, but that's fine. It works very well, and I'm happy with it. I saved $30 per month in the process. Internet speed is what I signed up for, and haven't had any down time yet. Phone service still has a weird delay. When people call us, we have to say "hello" 3-4 times before they hear us. Some have hung up thinking we weren't answering. UPDATE 12-8-2014: My speeds are pretty steady at 56/5.6 Mbps or so. I am unable to post my speed test results to DLSR because for some reason the speed test sites can't resolve the TW IP address(es). I thought that problem was supposed to be solved when it first popped up, but apparently it has not. UPDATE 11-25-2014: Another five years have passed. I have had Signature Home, which includes the 50 Mbps internet, for a little more than 2 months now. No problems. UPDATE 03-11-2009: Wow! Five years since my last update? The RR connection is still solid with no problems to report. Boring review, eh? UPDATE 2-24-2004: Connection is solid still. My speeds are in the 2800-2900 range, with a very occasional spike over 3000. No downtime that I know of. I now have the PCX2600 modem, and am using it with a BEFSR41 router with no problems. UPDATE 11-24-2003: Well, now that TWRR has increased my speeds from 2000 to 3000 down, I am only getting 1500 or so! All this time I have had a solid connection, but ever since they "upgraded" the speeds, I cannot seem to get more than 1500 down regularly. I have gotten as high as 2700 down, but that is very rare. All in all, my average download speed is 3/4 of what it used to be. Upload is higher, but all I usually send are keystrokes and mouse clicks. I am not impressed by this improvement. UPDATE 4-17-2003: Connection still solid. Have no seen any downtime. Keep on rocking, TWRR! UPDATE 13 January 2003: Connection solid, good speed (usually 2050/300 or so), and no problems whatsoever. TWRR rocks here! UPDATE 5 August 02: I still have had NO breaks in service of any kind. No disruptions, period. I continue to be VERY pleased with my RR service. Truck on RR!!! UPDATE 3 Mar 02: Going strong. No breaks in service. No problems with e-mail or newsgroup. Linksys still keeping me hooked up. I use both the Linksys and Zone Alarm, and since getting the Linksys (BEFSR41) I rarely get any traffic getting through to cause a Zone Alarm message. Almost never, in fact. TWC/RR here in Dayton, OH is going very, very well for me, although I'm almost finished with my $19.95 per month introductory rate, and will soon be bumped to $44.95 or so. ;-((((((( Even at that rate, it is an outstanding value for the money. UPDATE 7 Feb 02: Still moving right along. No service outages. E-mail 100 percent, and excellent newsgroup coverage. No problems with either the RR service or my Linksys. I am very, very pleased with the value for the buck. UPDATE 17 Dec 2001: Speeds are now pretty much where they should be -- in the 1.5-2.0kbps down/360 up, so I'm pleased. I have seen speed spikes to 5.1MMMMMMMMbps (that's Megs) to a couple of sites. All in all, I'm very happy with TWCRR, and have no problem recommending it to anyone. The X10 ads still appear EVERY time I access the RR home page, so I just don't go there any more. You're supposed to be able to cancel them for 30 days, but it does NOT work for me. Newsgroups are fine. Pings are low. I'm getting everything I expect out of RR. UPDATE 1 DEC 2001: Speeds are a very disappointing 3-400 kbps range for downloads most of the time now, meaning that MANY people have signed up.RR needs to fatten the pipes a lot, because in my part of town no one can get DSL, so everyone seems to be getting onto RR. In fact, about half of my speed tests show faster UPLOAD than DOWNLOAD. Upload is consistent at 370-380 or so. I got stuck with a 3-Com discontinued modem, and don't really know yet whether that's good for me or bad. Any feedback on that would be appreciated. It is a 3CR29223. I'm in Centerville, Ohio. Called a week ago (Nov 20) to order RoadRunner after seeing my street on their website as being availabie. They are offering free installation except for a NIC card. and $19.95 per month for the first three months, then $44.95. Good price. I was given a 4-hour window for this morning (11-27) and the installer showed up on time. Modem is a 3-com dual network/USB (yuch - I was hoping for a Toshiba). The installer actually works for CompUSA, and said that they are using up all their 3-com modems until they run out of stock. After he got the cable installed and turned on the modem, it wouldn't sync. Turns out that TW is having a problem in my area today, and so he left without ever getting a sync. My signal strength at the modem is -10, which is somewhat low, but he said it will sync OK once the system is up and running. The installer was very knowledgable and capable and friendly. The remainder of my review will have to wait until I get a sync and can test/tweak, etc. More later.................... UPDATE 11-28-2001, 9:40 AM: Well, the awaited sync never came, and yesterday afternoon I called tech support, and got a very helpful and smart Terry, who, after I told her that my signal strength was -10 and below, told me flat out that the shark fin (3-com) will NEVER sync up at that signal strength. She has set up an appointment for between 3 and 5 pm today for someone to come out and get my signal boosted. Low signal affects the digital cable box. I suggested that they may want to install an amp, and she put that in her notes as well. Soooo, no RR yet, but everyone so far has been nice and helpful, and I'm still hopeful. More later after today's visit....... UPDATE 11-28-2001, 10:30PM: Tech from TW showed up this evening and discovered that the coax outside line had been scraped and some of the shielding was cut, so the line showed a horrible loss. He put in a new line directly to the computer, and the modem synced right up. Speeds really vary from site to site. In the space of two hourse I've logged speeds from 300K to 3100K. LinkLine and Megapate speeds tend to be really low, in the 300-400 range, once getting to 800. I've put the tweaks in, and tomorrow will post my tweak results to ask for help. Now, how can I trade the 3-com modem in for a Toshiba, which I understand will increase my speed. Attachments: member for 23.6 years, 5997 visits, last login: 78 days ago updated 1.6 years ago
Recently upgraded to their 200M/bps service with a promotion, and then I saw on their website when checking my bill a super easy way to go to 400M/bps for just another $20.00/month (even though I knew about it before). The temptation was just too great so I did it. I'm a real happy camper now! member for 19.2 years, 7066 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 2 years ago
My In Laws also have a beach house in Pawleys Island, SC and they have Spectrum (was prior Time Warner Cable). I FRICKIN HATE their whole EVERYTHING there. I can't really comment on Time Warner prior as I didnt visit until AFTER the merger. Their cable boxes are horrendous. Its ok like interface wise, not the 90s lookin channel guides OR even the comcast 2000s guide, looks kinda like the AT&T Uverse guide, not bad at all. but the boxes are Horrendously SLOWWW. remotes dont always respond. no voice remote + DVR. Apparently since the merger, they're concentrated on merging their systems before they upgrade their equipment and BOY are they right. When calling in to set up a CableCARD for TiVo Edge, we got tossed around alot for long wait times & probably shifted around close to 5-6 times because we needed a CSR on the Time Warner system and then on a Business account because its on a bundled account (because its rented out) and THEN a business account ON TWC and THEN wrong person and even so, no luck. Tech came out & figured out the 1st phone rep put the cablecard number on the WRONG field so it was a matter of reentering everything, something that coulda been done on the phone. And their internet boxes suck too. Modem & router are separate. Their router is utter crap, so many issues trying to connect devices on the 5GHz network & needing to reboot the router so often because my laptop refuses to connect some times. I REALLY REALLY wish Frontier had FiOS there or AT&T Fiber was there but they can't even get their address found on the Frontier website. member for 10.4 years, 2866 visits, last login: 3 days ago updated 2.9 years ago

I have no idea what package we ordered. The order and install was fine it was years ago. The Brand/Model of equipment ARRIS TRsomething. we get tired of our wireless settings messing up setting in our computers. Half the time we can't connect to our 5g side of Wi-Fi because it says wrong password. and it happens on the 2g a lot now too. We try to change settings but nothing works. I even log onto the router on the admin site and when I do trouble shoot it says its not on the internet. Have no idea why it says that because clearly its connected to the internet because all of our devices are on the internet.
