Pre Sales Information: A flier was sent to my home advertising an introductory rate and a free gift card. I got neither. The reason I didn't get the introductory rate is because I am a long time Adelphia cable TV customer is what I was told. The gift card never arrived. I was told that it was a companion to the introductory offer.
Install Co-ordination: Simple. Drive to the office, bring home the modem, plug it in. It worked.
Connection reliability: So far so good. I'll give it a 4, maybe upgrade it as time goes by.
Tech Support: I use FreeBSD, Mac, and Windows. There is no support for any Unix or Linux variant. No suprise there. Mac support is limited to setting the gui options. No help is available for tweaking anything else, which is a need. They do something, what I don't know, that makes the service flaky on Mac OSX. From the initial install, it worked flawlessly on my Win2K PC, but the Mac required several hours of tweaking tcp/udp settings from the command line. One major plus is that Tech Support appears to be based in the U.S. In addition, unless you have a land line or cell phone, don't bother to call. They will always make you unplug your router as the first step, so if you're using VOIP to call them, you're of course disconnected.
Services: Neutral. I've had better, and I've had worse. One of my neighbors will fly into a rage at the mere mention of the company's name. This worries me a bit, but so far they haven't evoked such feelings in me.
Value for money: Pricey! Still, I am saving money by using Vonage and Adelphia instead of using BellSouth DSL and their joke of a bundle. I know that in other parts of the country, similar services can be had for far less money, but here in rural Kentucky, our options are somewhat limited.

I bought a Linksys BEFCMU10 modem, V4 and was intially told that they will not support it in any way shape or form. I was told that it causes problems on their network (like I believe that) because of bad learned MAC addresses. I was given the choice of either returning it to the store or leasing a modem from Adelphia. I was hung up on by support, and when I called back, the girl gave me all kinds of attitude. The third time was the charm though, as a deicated 1st level tech got the job done. A most unpleasant experience salvaged at the very last by a lowly level 1 tech who took her duries to her customers seriously.

No more Windows. It was just too problematic and labour intensive. Installed Suse 10, and it worked perfectly as soon as installed. My Mac is still not getting speeds anywhere near asdvertised, but the Suse machine does well. I still wish I still had my BellSouth DSL, but saving money in these days of nearly $3.00/gallon gas prices is more important.

Kudos to our installer in Amissville! Nice job. Clean professional cable routing that I can relocate easily to my server room. Connection seems fast BUT
I have done speed tests using Adelphia.net’s own speed test and dslreports and I am getting at best 4M/412. I am paying for Premiere and am not even getting the basic speeds. Please note - To be fair I have yet to call tech support and resolve this. I plan to this week.
My only real complaint is how Adelphia seems to tie your access to your NIC. I know that all I need to do is clone the MAC addy in a router and all is well but I got used to Embarq’s open nature.

Download/upload speeds still rock solid. No issues. Just waiting for official migration to Comcast.
Did cancel my DSL service, Green Mountain Access, which was perfect the last few months.

I am averaging 4300/430 -- good speed at a good price!
I will continue to monitor as the official Comcast transition looms.

UPDATE AS OF 9/25/06:
I am now a 6 day customer.
Slow speeds "habitually" appear weekdays from @ 3:30 PM - 1AM and on weekends beginning @ 9 AM. Speeds drop to 900k-1000.
Outside of those hours, I maintain the preferred profile of 4300/430. I was getting the speed until a few moments ago.
It is now after 9 AM and like clockwork, my speeds are beginning to drop and are hovering @ 2000. I know they will drop to 900k-1Mb as the hours progress:

Upload Speed: 434 kbps (54.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

UPDATE AS OF 9/22/06:
Download speed drops considerably after 4PM thereabouts. Tech support came out and found nothing wrong but it was before 4PM and I knew speeds would be OK.
Otherwise, speeds are above 4Mb after midnight and before 4PM.
Will continue to monitor. Not good. It looks like we need Comcast to hurry up and change all the old Adelphia servers over and/or add nodes.

I am a new Adelphia Subscriber as of 9/19/06.
Installation was performed as scheduled and took less than 2 hours. I had 5 rooms set up for cable TV which included one set with Digital TV and a premium channel (Silver Package). The Preferred High Speed Internet Service Package was also bundled (4Mb/512).
2 major reasons were the forces behind the decision to switch from DirecTV and Green Mountain Access DSL: price and guaranteed timely technological updates.
Adelphia offered huge monetary incentives for me to switch and my savings are great over the next 16 months. Furthermore, with their acquisition by Comcast, I know my Internet Service will be upgraded routinely and frequently.
With that being said, I am getting great HSI speeds (4+/- down and 423 up).Furthermore, I know an upgrade to 6MB or more is coming quite soon.
Moreover, I can now watch Canadian Broadcasts, something which couldn't be done with DirectTV since they don't offer CBC or CTV.
Will keep monitoring this moving forward.

After dealing with the slow Verizon DSL, my roommates and I decided to get cable internet through Adelphia (the only alternative to Verizon DSL in this area). Installation was easy, and trouble free. We ordered the Premium service, 6mbit download and 768kbit upload, for $60/month. After a few weeks of having this "high speed internet", it started dropping the connection several times a day, sometimes not coming back up for hours. When you call Adelphia's customer support number, you get the same response every time. They dont know what could be causing the problem, but they'll look into it. Every time theres a problem with the internet here, we have to wait it out. Everything went very smooth until we actually get the internet up and running. We have a wireless network, and a cable modem that my roommate has been using for years. The advertised speeds of 6mbit down are sometimes a bit higher, but most of the time the maximum download speed is in the area of 300-400 kb/sec. Verizon FiOS, where are you!!

Update: 10/17/06 - Adelphia in my town is soon to become Comcast. We'll see what happens, but I know I can't wait to try out FiOS.
Update: 01/11/07 - No longer a customer. Dropped Comcast when I got Fios.

Adelphia broadband service--cable. Good speed-- 4500-5300 kb/s download
and 430-450 upload. Rated service is 3000/450. Download speed not
consistent. Occasionally, when needed most (it so appeares), the service
fails for a couple of hours.

I was at first very hesitant to go with Adelphia Cable, then when I
was helping a friend with his cable and I had to call Adelphia tech,
I was surprised to find that they were competent, and actually nice
to their users (hello? ATT?)
I've used PACBELL - ATT and Covad before.
I was happy with Covad but found much higher speed with Adelphia.
The only downside is that I am more apt to have an outage with
Adelphia. Maybe I had one with COVAD, and have one maybe every 3-6
months with Adelphia. Only once was Adelphia out for more than a few hours.
All in all, I can recommend them. The question is how TIME WARNER
CABLE, the new owner of Adelphia will treat us (Road Runner Cable).
They promise 6 meg speed. and 512 K upload. We'll see.

A little over a week ago I decided to give Adelphia PowerLink a try... I was previously on DSL and never really got the speed I wanted due to the fact that my phone wiring was old and I was 2 miles from the central office... I have heard alot of negative experiences on here about Adelphia but the $19.95 inroductory deal was just too good to pass up... Though with a second dynamic IP address I requested it costs an extra $5.95 a month and a one time fee to add it of $14.95... Even at full price it will be cheaper than my former DSL provider and much higher speeds... I don't get a static IP like before with my DSL provider it came standard with my account, but then I really had no need for it... I must say that I am impressed with PowerLink so far, download speeds even during peak times are never lower then 1500 kbps I have seen speeds late at night into the wee hours to 3600 kbps... Upload speed seems to average about 116 kbps, about on par with what I was getting on DSL...The best I could get on DSL download was 550 - 659 kbps... DSL connection seemed to have less latency but PowerLink is not bad at all, only a bit higher latency at times than I experienced on DSL... Latency I am getting now is 92 ms to 120 ms depending on time of day, defintely acceptable... Newsgroups seem to be a bit thin on PowerLink, not as many articles in the groups compared to my former provider... However there does not seem to be a speed cap on the newsgroups unlike the 128 kbps cap on my former service providers' news server... My self installation was plug and play painless basically except for the fact I wanted to connect two computers and needed an additional dynamic IP address and should have had it by now... After a bit of a run around from tech support making a error on their end I think I finally got it all straightened out... My second IP will be available this coming Wednesday (I hope)... I don't know what the future will bring but so far I am very satisfied with Adelphia... Plus it is no hassle and no contract either, so in the future if I don't like the service I can painlessly cancel and return the modem no penalties... However if service stays as is, I will remain a very satisfied customer...

Well after a bit more time on the phones with Adelphia Wednesday I did finally get both of my computers online... Still getting great d/l speeds with some slowing in the early evening, still I'm very satisfied with the service so far...

Well the connection is still rock solid and never lose sync, however it looks like the speed is starting to take a nosedive in the evenings and staying that way till after midnight... Just did a speed test and the best was about 500 kbps on the worst speed test 130 kbps... In the wee hours of the morning the speed seems to rebound back up to the 2500 to 3000 kbps range... I honestly thought since I lived in a lower population density area that the slowdowns would not be this extreme, guess I was wrong... Also I have found that the email server has been down pretty frequently the last week or so, lucky I use web email mostly... I honestly hope the performance does not get any worse or slowdown at all hours... However since PowerLink service is still new to my area I am not not so quick to write it off just yet...`

In the years since my last update Adelphia has been pretty consistent, speed and performance has increased somewhat... However, Time Warner has taken over Adelphia in my area... A few days ago the network was transitioned onto RR and nothing much has changed... Just got my first bill from Time Warner but since it is early in the transition Adelphia billing structure is still in effect... I will be curious to see how things are once the transition is complete... A future review of RR will be in the works once things settle and I have had some experience with them... Bye bye Adelphia...

Had issues in the beginning with getting the promo price. Had other issues with buried cable. Got it replaced. Hurricane damage to the line last year. Since it was fixed, I've been up and running at insane speeds 24-7. Paying $51.95 a month.

I have been satisfied until Recently. Aug we had a spell for a week where we were more "not connected" than "connected". More Recently Speed is very inconsistent (Down). Interesting (UP) speeds are very consistent. UP speeds are almost always 450-452 when I test. However DOWN speeds start slowing down drastically in PM. The other night around 8pm I was generally testing under 200(kbps). First thing in morning (around 6am) I get over 3,000(even over 4,000 at times) Right now @ 1:30pm EST(local time) I am getting about 1,000 down.
I did call Adelphia the other day and they are suppose to be out to check a "signal" issue. (Scheduled for Thursday). I will write an update on the results.
In the past I had been satisfied with their service (other than trying to get customer service and once getting them finding someone who could help) Fortunate my need to call them over the past 4 years was quite low.
Hopefully Comcast is working on some of these issues. Otherwise I might turn to DSL and DirectTV
I suspect there have been some customers added to the local area (as I am fairly rural) and maybe the setup isnt good enough any more.
There is problem checking email at times, but checking a minute later and there isnt a problem(server issues?)
