After having ATT Dsl 6.0 for like 7 years We finally decided we needed a faster speed at our home. Already had Digital Cable and was paying about $120 per month. After initially speaking to Sales I think the guy was in Mexico and then calling back and getting someone in Connecticut it was determined we could just go to the local office and pickup a modem. Service would be hooked up ASAP and it would be about $35.99 per month for 6 months including modem rental. We havent gotten the new bill yet so the prices could be a little off. The service was already working when I brought the modem home. Really easy to hookup with self install kit. The only hurdle was I was only getting like 26 /5 for speed. I called several times and tech support would say "Your service is new it takes a little while to get 50 /10" this didnt make sense to me. After reading the forums here I found out most like my modem profile was incorrect. I did as I was told and contacted Comcast in the chat forum and voila it was fixed. I regularly get speeds way about 50 mbps and sometimes close to 100 at off peak hours. uploads about 11. So far works marvelously after about two weeks.

Speed Package is Blast, 50/10.

Purchased own modem, SB6120, no problems so far.

If you want tech support or special deals, go to Comcast Direct.

Managed to get a guaranteed 2 yr rate for Blast.

It is been over a month I have switched from lousy AT&T U-verse to Comcast. Over the past year I had to contact only three times to fix service related issues after a successful run. Initially there were some glitches right after installation, but the technicians were doing amazing job to fix the issues and eventually they got it working perfectly fine in less than 48 hours. (There was an underground water logging issue and took additional day as higher level technical team had to involve to fix that).

There were three instances where I had to call technical support to correct the issues, one time with TV service and another times with Internet service. Both times support techs were great to understand the issues and fixed issues remotely two times. Third time they had to send a technician and it was taken care of in a single visit. It is not really bad when two services running and had to contact three times in over 12 months period.

Recently they have increased the speed in all tiers. I was on "performance package" and was getting 25/4.5 Upgraded to "Blast" with advertised 50/10 but getting 45/10.5, not really bad for additional $10 a month.

Note: When I wanted to upgrade my speed from performance to blast an untrained tech in billing told me that I have to pay ETF in order to make changes to the package, if anyone informed in that way, make sure that it is WRONG and ask for a manager or supervisor. I had to tweet @comcastcare for an immediate fix. The action was very quick and satisfactory, an area manager contacted me and upgraded my package in less than 2 minutes and apologized for the mis-information give by the tech over the phone.

Over all I am very much satisfied and happy with COMCAST XFINITY so far!

I had Qwest (now CenturyLink) DSL for some years, and was actually pretty happy with it. They offered an upgrade in speed at no cost, but when it took effect my connection went to very spotty. I decided to switch to Comcast. I bought my own modem, which was on their approved list. It took several days and a dozen or so calls to get them to be able to provision the modem. Their contract phone support was unable to deal with a non-Comcast provided modem. Finally I got someone who knew what they were doing and it was done in seconds. Subsequent service calls (all for TV, not Internet) seemed to be just as clueless. As long as I leave things alone, it is very good. Just got upgraded to Performance level speeds. Although my modem is only DOCSIS 2.0, I am getting well over 20 Mbps downloads.

Order service as a self-install and was excited to get home and fire it up. But, to my dismay I had no sync.

So I checked my incoming connection outside and that was fine, I call Comcast and try and register the modem and they say they can't ; it was already registered to another account (the previous user brought it back to staples and they re-sold it.)

But, that was not the problem. With a new modem I tried and still had no service. So I called tech support to have a tech come out (5 days later)! I kept calling and told them this was not acceptable and I needed a sooner date. I told them that there is probably a trap on the line and it would take the tech 10 mins to climb and remove. They said sorry Friday was the best they could do.

So I waited till Friday, tech came out looked at pole and said he forgot his ladder and would be back (contractor). So 20 mins later he's back and up the pole to pull the trap and now I have service.

Tech was a nice guy and even setup the account and tested the computer without charging us the fee. So that was a good thing.

In conclusion, it's a great service for the price, just hope you don't have to call tech support.

Update: 10-10-2012

Comcast last month charge me 50.00 for the tech visit for trouble with their line. I called and the refused to take the charge off until I told them to disconnect the service then. At that point they credited the account 50.00 and told me to bay the 29.00 as usual.

Well the October bill just came and there is the 50.00 charge as a balance forward telling me to pay now. Guess I will dump Comcast since they can't get anything right and go for DSL. Will update what I do.

PS: The outsourced cust rep from India argued with me that this is a standard charge for problems on my side. I told him it was on their side at the pole. I argued I would climb it and have done it myself if I wouldn't face arrest. Idiot...

4-9-13
So far so good no problems.

There are only two choices for Broadband connection in my area which are ATT or ComCast. ATT isn't really competitive as the fastest connection I could get with them was called Xtreme 6.0 which was of course 6 Mbs whereas ComCast gave me 25 Mbs out of the gate and of course recently upgraded their BLAST service to 50 Mbs. The biggest problems I have with ComCast is their customer support and their retention policy. I shouldn't really complain about their customer support as it seems to me there actually isn't any. I have spent countless hours on hold and talking with poorly English speaking support reps who have no answers but often try to get me to upgrade my services even though I am already not getting what I am paying for.

One of the biggest complaints I had was when I ordered my service the sales rep who came to our house told me about a referral program where if referred somebody who signed up for their "Triple Play" bundle I would get a $50.00 referral bonus. I referred three people and never got anything. I spent weeks trying to get them to honor their agreement and finally gave up. Almost a year later I posted something about it on their forum board and somebody sent it to an administrator who called me to tell me they had never had such a program! Bear in mind I had already talked to at least a half dozen customer service reps who had never told me it didn't exist, just that it would take some time to get it. Who do you believe?

Bottom line is that if there were another choice for my HSI I would most likely take it. When a company has no competition they can pretty much do as they please and ComCast has done that as far as I can tell.

I'll make my review short and sweet, which is unlike me as I am usually exceedingly long winded.

I have Comcast high speed internet + voice. I have had the service almost 8 months now.

I did have a few bumps in the road, but for the most part:

Comcast SERVICE is among the very best I have experienced.

Comcast CUSTOMER service is among the very worst I have ever seen, and I work in IT.

The service itself is FAST, and very reliable. I think I have had one service outage since becoming a customer, and that was within hours of the initial install. Its been fine ever since.

Just pray you never have an issue. I don't know about other areas, but where I am at, if you have a cabling or signal level issue, the techs are pretty good. However, if you have an issue that goes beyond signal levels and really requires an network guru that really understands how the internet works, forget it. Don't even bother calling. You will either have to troubleshoot it yourself, or find a guru who can. In my particular case, I ran into a very rare and unique issue to which there was no fix, only a "work-around".

In my personal experience, 1 out of 10 calls to 800-Xfinity will yield a very knowledgeable helpful tech. The other 9 times you will get someone who doesn't really understand how internet technology works, and can only go by scripted responses.

We are near the University of Oregon in a dense student neighborhood. The DSL cannot carry more than 1.5m/sec because of the old 1940's copper wire on the poles. But QWEST (the former phone co) wouldn't admit it was impossible and kept blaming me for complaining.
