What can i say i like it, and don't think I'll change it. if it works why fix it. My connection and speed are constant and never go haywire unless there is an outage. if a storm comes and being in the south the ice storms, Charter puts the lines back up and a lot of times when the power comes on there back up and rolling not missing a beat. the price is a little more than others but its worth it.
Update: I have since left Charter not because they had bad service but because i had to move. i still think they had good service and there HD quality is by far very good. excellent customer service.

October '09- Service has been good so far. But connection problems have come up at the start of this month, have a support ticket on the Charter Forums hopefully I can get this sorted out within a week
July 16th- Get tier which we get 24.99 months for 3meg
August 31st- First Review posted
I now have 5 meg/512
very fast, always on
Switched to 10meg/1 in Feb 08
July 27th 2008-
Recently the having problems with response time called charter said signals fine, but charter tech on this site said service call should be scheduled
after to doing a COMPLETE RESTART (resetting all equipment and bypass the router which isn't easy to get a reissued a new IP address) ever since its been back to normal
Feburary 10th 09 The past week there have been talks of Charter implementing usage caps, I for one am not a fan of "caps". Their not implemented to "punish" heavy internet but to milk regular customers for more money
A 100GB cap is UNACCEPTABLE you can reach that within 23 Hours of full speed usage (it takes 23 hours to download a 100GB file on a 10/1 Connection but that's not including uploaded usage which would push you past the cap even faster)
With this I am lowering my ratings of Services and Value for Money *Updated* Monthly Cost to include all service which is Best Digital Cable Package with all movie channels and Charter Music

"Umatter2Charter guys are very helpful."

Connection has been very reliable over the past 4+ months. Speeds very consistent and don't drop during peak hours. I usually get around 10.7Mbps/1.7Mbps on my 10Mbps/2Mbps connection. Routing is still mediocre and my latency is much lower on AT&T DSL.
The phone tech support is still god awful. I'd even venture to say it's worse than DELL's. The Umatter2Charter guys on DSLR forums and twitter are very helpful though.
I wouldn't recommend Charter unless it is your only option.

I have been a Charter Pipeline customer for about 5 years. Early on the service was good. But for the last 3 years it has continued to get worst. Just went though another 2 days without service. It seems that service will go down or have very slow speeds about 3 or 4 days a week. I'm in a area without DSL, so no alternative ISP. Verizon FIOS is scheduled to come to my area within the next year. That will be my day of liberation!

Charter's reliability and speeds have greatly improved in my area for the past few years, but more recently I am encountering connection issues again. Prior to three years ago they were horrible. I still believe they are too expensive and strongly resent having to call their office to barter for a good price every time my contract expires. I assume this is done for those who aren't aware of the option, they will ultimately pay up to twice as much as those complaining about their bill. That being said their service had been excellent until the past several months. The same tech has been here three times, always claiming to find the problem, and leaving only to have the same connection issues repeated. Speeds are what I pay for(10Meg). If you are one to need tech. support often you may want to consider other options. While they have some good telephone support technicians most are horrible and will quickly dismiss your problem as the fault of your pc or modem manufacturer.
The last time I contacted Charter regarding my mothers bill, I informed them I purchased her modem 3 years ago and they have been billing her a modem lease which was recently brought to my attention. They asked me to fax them a copy of the sales receipt! - I laughed and declined with some choice words. Immediately calling back and speaking to someone else she informed me they had on record that she owned her own modem, however can only reimburse her for the previous nine months in lieu of admitting they had billed her modem rental for three years.
I recommend signing up during a good promotion to lock in a low rate, preferably for 12 months or longer. At the end of that contract be prepared to contact them for another promotion or willing to pay out the rear for the service.

Frontier DSL. slow speed, narrow bandwidth.
Change to charter. installed in less than 15 min. including running all new lines and splitters. No splitter to modem, only after modem. Motorola. friendly customer service but hard to get a hold of when they are needed.

Here's a review of Charter Cable, for those in North Shelby County, Alabama (the Birmingham Area).
I am new to Alabama, moving here for work about 9 months ago from Tampa Bay. There I had Verizon FiOS, but had Brighthouse there for almost 15 years, prior to FiOS. My experience with both Brighthouse (Cable) and FiOS (AWESOME) was more than satifactory.
I am a "power" Internet user, as I work from my home office, and I also play a MMO FPS (Battleground Europe - check it out www.battlegroundeurope.com). So my demands are quite high of Internet Service.
Charter Cable TV is completely avergage, and the connection for VOD and HD can be vert spotty. I reset my STB at least once a month.
Charter VoIP phone service is good, and other than a few hicups with installation (took 3 trys), has been working fine.
Charter HSI is a disaster! The techs are doing their best, but there is a huge problem with packet loss, and speed are terrible. I bought the 10/1 package, and then the 20/2 package, but neither has ever been fast. My average is somewhere nere 2M Down, and 500k Up (as compared to the 20M down, 2M up service description). Speed is no big deal, but packet loss can be up to 80%, and that's completely unacceptable.
Charter is trying to work on this, but no relief is in site yet. I will update this when it gets fixed, or when I dump Charter!

Just a question. I live in an area where I can only get Charter. I cannot get Qwest or any other cable company. The townhome community I live in doesn't allow satellites to be installed either, (that bites to). Why is it that Charter is able to have a conglomerate of this one area and no other cable company can even set up here ? I live in the central part of Minnesota by the Mall Of America. You would think that there would be at least another competetive cable supplier allowed to be here too. I took out the 70$ package also, and my bundle, phone-internet-cable, my bill runs about 135.00$ a month. Good bundle deal ..........umm..... no.

| Satellites Uhm...it's against Federal Law to completely ban satellites in any Condo/Apt/Townhome Community. Let them know this--that is a CLEAR violation. They can have certain restrictions about where it can go but it can't be banned totally. Check the FCC website for further information. | |

Things I considered for broadband are how much speed I need and what will I use it for. The order and install went pretty good and easy for me. I have Digital Cable and they gave me a motorola cable box. I don't really have any MAJOR problems with Charter and I think that they are a good company for cable and internet
