Now that I've finished my first three months of DSL service with WVI, I thought the best way for me to let them know how pleased I am with their service would be to brag about it to as many people as possible. Hence ...
What can I say? It took only a week from contract signing to get DSL up and running at my house. From what I heard about other ISPs, that was excellent.
I was given a USB DSL modem at no cost and which is mine to keep as long as I meet their 6 month minimum service contract. (You can't beat that now, can you?)
When I was installing the modem drivers, I called WVI and got near immediate assistance and was up within 20 minutes.
My wife is very please with the fact that the phone line is no longer in use when I am on-line and I am online 3-4 hours a day. I only got their most basic service, 256 up/640 down, but I love it and I haven't had to call them back about anything since.

With WVI being my third ISP since attaining DSL through USWest/Qwest, I can say that it will be my last for a while. Lured in by positive reviews and an encouraging stat sheet, 640 down/265 up and a static IP for only a 22 dollar ISP fee, I decided to give it a shot, moving from my now extinct former ISP FirstWorld. I ordered my service on a Monday, and had a week long wait for the scheduled installation on the following Monday. While seven days is a long time as-is, due to an all-too-common miscommunication from Qwest to WVI, my service was not activated until that Wednesday. When I got the service, I was appalled to see that it didn't meet my expectations. Peak downloads of 60k/sec, uploads peaking at 24k/sec. Download and upload speeds are only a factor when they're not consistent, however, and consistency was a huge downfall of WVI. The lowest ping I ever got was 60, which is fine, but constant ping spikes ruined any experience. The only thing consistent about the service was that it was always inconsistent. I emailed tech support a few times, showing them routings, and where the problems were occurring(most of them were happening at the transfers between their backbones and the conjoining backbone). I recieved quick replies, but they were more customer comfort replies than technical support. In one reply, I was even told I was expecting too much from their service. Perhaps I was, and WVI has definately helped me lower my standards. WVI has a couple of good reviews, it may be safe to say that my experience with them has been stigmatized by Qwest.

Hello Most Illustrious Professionals At DSLReports,
I have been a Willamette Valley Internet customer since around August 1998. I went from 56k dial-up to 768 HDSL to 1536/512 ADSL service in the time I have been with WVI. They have always provided quick and effective customer service. I can only think of three times when their internet service has been interrupted. Their prices are pretty decent and you get more bang for you buck than you might get with other regional providers (Verizon and Qwest). For instance, they provide static IPs with all their DSL accounts. My line quality is very good (it should be since I live next door to my town's CO). WVI is owned by Stayton Telephone Cooperative of which I am also a customer (we, really a "member" since it is a coop). Now for kudos to you. While WVI had provided my with my excellent internet connection, you site had enabled me to tweak it to where it is as fast as it should be. WVI could only take care of their part but could not get my system set up correctly (and I would not expect an ISP to be able to do so). I was able to get it up to speed using the tools on your site along with the expects who frequent your "Tweaks" forum. For this I offer you many thanks. Please keep up the good work.
Sincerely, Richard Surroz (a.k.a. Sith_DarthBeavis)
