The fiber to the home is fast and affordable. No bandwidth limits I'm aware of. Newsservers can max the connection. They recently raised our Bandwidths to 15/Mbps up and down for free! You can pay more for higher speeds but i feel it is unneeded. Some guy has a 100 Mbps line to his house. member for 19.8 years, 1820 visits, last login: 13.1 years ago updated 14.2 years ago
Finally! Surewest brought fiber to my little neck of the woods. I was able to tell Comcast to take their crappy unreliable service and take a hike. So far Surewest is excellent. The speed is constant and steady, no variance based on time of day. I opted for the 5Mb-u/5Mb-d plan. For $39.99 + taxes and no contract, it is much cheaper than naked HSI from Comcast (who wants about $62). In the future I may consider getting the phone and TV as well from Surewest, but not right now. The installation was successful and pretty quick. The installer was very knowledgeable and professional. Kept the place clean and tidy. Now I have to go remove all those little red and yellow flags all over my yard member for 23.4 years, 4563 visits, last login: 7.7 years ago updated 14.9 years ago
Supper Fast connection 20 meg up and down. I love it. The installer was ontime and friendly. It was worth going without broad band for the 5 days while I waited. member for 16.2 years, 179 visits, last login: 14.4 years ago lodged 15 years ago
Rock Solid. I used to have Winfirst when I lived in Natomas. Loved it. Cried when I moved. Now Surewest has built into our new neighborhood in Lincoln. Their service is great. Overall I give this company an enthusiastic thumbs UP. 10Mbps Up and Down for $69 per month. member for 22.2 years, 274 visits, last login: 10.1 years ago updated 15.1 years ago
Update - My contract was almost up with them. I wanted faster speed. They offered me 3 Megs for $28 a month for a year. Service was turned on 12pm the next day. I have not had to call Surewest for support and its always been reliable. Still have the original modem they provided- no problems. Works great with XBOX Live. member for 16.4 years, 1 visits, last login: 15.4 years ago updated 15.4 years ago
update: Now I've been with surewest for about 3 yrs and still "love" the reliability and speed of their connection just tested at 19,000/23,000 for $55 mo hard to beat! Where my major beef comes in is their false sales pitches and their very complicated billing where it's so easy for them to hide unjustified charges that most people don't notice and or just pay them. I had a sales person come to my door offering me, "what if I could give you the TV and the internet for less then what you are paying right now for just the internet?" Of course you're going to say yes. Well I don't think there was ever one bill that was less then what I was paying before! I was paying $55 mo and it rarely was under $75 usually closer to $100! I woud call and complain but they would explain it away with well there are fees and taxes that are included that raised your total. Well BS, fees or taxes it still wasnt "LESS" then I was paying before like the salesman told me it would! How many other people have they pulled this on??? I would love to sue them for this and other price gouging techniques they use! I'm very serious about this, I love the connection speed but something has to be done about their unethical and illegal sales and billing procedures! If you're an attorney or law firm that would be interested in this, contact me. Now I discontinued the tv service after my contract runs out and they tell me I have to drive about 30 miles each way to drop off their equiptment. I didn't do it fast enough they now have billed me over $600 for a remote and a stupid lil receiver for lack of better description. My feeling is hey, I didn't go to you for it, you came to me asking. I leased it for over a year being gouged the whole time, now we're done, if you want it back send me a prepaid mailer or come and get it! Help!! I've been with Surewest for about a year now and have been VERY HAPPY with their service. Even though they advertised 10m both ways for the first nine months I was only getting on avg in the high 4's and usally with the up being the highest but was still very happy with that. I would notice others in my same zip code that were getting high 9's and wondered what the heck they were doing different from me. Then I switched out my router with a Netgear FVX 538 and Bingo my connect rate jumped straight to the upper 9's and now I'm grinning like a fat cat! (whatever the heck that looks like) I'm now taking advantage of the bandwidth by hosting my own Net Radio Station, www.ROCN.FM. But it's been three weeks now and we're still having problems with them getting the DNS A file correct, it seems it keeps coming back to Surewest in a reverse lookup. What can you do???... member for 22.4 years, 54 visits, last login: 15 years ago updated 15.5 years ago
Install was on time, good quality. Just ordered upgrade to 20Mbs @ $51/ mo for 1 year on a promotion with one year contract. member for 21.2 years, 165 visits, last login: 13.2 years ago updated 15.6 years ago
So I decided to give Surewest a go given all of the good things I heard about them. I live in a condo AKA a Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) which are already pre-wired with cat5 cable and a patch panel in the master bedroom closet. Then the patch panel is linked to the telcom room of the building with another cat5 cable. However, the feeds into the telcom room are copper. Surewest generally uses FTTH to deliver IPTV, Broadband, and phone, but since we only have copper they still provide their services to use through FTTN. They use ADSL2+ to do this. Why they don't use VDSL instead I don't know. The tech who came to install the service was pretty cool. He managed to complete the install in less than an hour. I guess having cat5 outlets in every room made it pretty easy for him. He also hooked me up with 6 months of free HBO and cinemax. The fastest internet I could get is 10/768 with two streams for TV. If I get 3 TV streams I would have to go with 6/768. I also have an extremely basic phone line for my alarm system. Internet seems to be fine for the most part. I see about 9.5mbps download, however, my upload speeds are much worse than uverse and I only get about 640kbps up. My first hop is also 32ms compared to the 20ms I had with U-Verse vdsl. My TV picture is very clear but if I'm doing a lot on the internet side (like running a torrent) my TV picture lags behind or becomes really blocky. This is unacceptable and probably due to the already restrictive speeds offered through ADSL2+. Due to the SD and HD streams being much larger than those on u-verse I absolutely cannot have an HD stream and am limited to only a few SD streams. So all in all, I think the service is fair for the price. It's about 30 dollars less than what u-verse cost. However, their system here is obviously built with FTTH in mind with the IPTV and very fast internet speeds. Using ADSL2 technology limits this greatly and makes the service subpar when compared to Comcast and AT&T U-verse. U-verse and Comcast beat them in upload speeds and the fact that they can provide HDTV content. They should consider running fiber to each building or at least switching to VDSL. The installer tech told me that they generally don't do MDU installs with fiber because they need permission to do it. member for 17.1 years, 496 visits, last login: 13.9 years ago updated 15.8 years ago
All I can say is that once I got it working, it blew right through the rest of the local competition! member for 17.5 years, 294 visits, last login: 14.8 years ago lodged 15.8 years ago
The service is sold as 10Mbps synchronous but my speeds are typically 8.5 to 11Mbps in tests. 20Mbps is also offered, but you're ultimately limited to the speed you're drawing from, so I can't justify the extra $. The techs are first rate. They really take pride in their work which is obvious in the quality of their wiring jobs (I've referred friends and they are all virtual works of art. Close attention to detail and appearance.) In the time I've been with them they had an equipment upgrade. I was lucky to be a beta tester. They sent a team including two supervisors and an upper management guy. All great people. The equipment includes an exterior unit that splits the fiber into the net, TV & phone services and an APC brand battery backup device. member for 19.1 years, 7 visits, last login: 15.5 years ago lodged 15.9 years ago |
