  • "Customer service (or, lack thereof)"

Waveform is terrible. It has terrible support. Support is only available
via support ticket, and tickets can remain in-queue for upwards of 12 hours.
The place is a one-man operation. They attempt to make it seem as if they
have multiple employees. However, the same tech is always at the facility
(or, I should say, never at the facility). They do not provide 24/7 access
to your hardware if you do not purchase a quarter-rack or above. Those of
you with mid-towers or 1/2U servers will have to either pay $135 an hour to
access your equipment after business hours or be forced to wait to access
your mission-critical server until business hours. This is unacceptable for
the IT industry. 100% uptime is the goal (even though it is not
achievable), and you will never have 99.9% uptime with Waveform because you
won't be able to access your equipment. I would avoid this place, unless
you don't really care about accessing your equipment in the event of failure
or can pony up for the quarter rack or higher. However, if you can afford
the quarter rack, stay away from that place. You can get a full rack at
a reputable data center in Southfield for $250 more per month than
Waveform's quarter rack. The data center in Southfield actually has a NOC
that is staffed 24/7. I once lost my key to the Southfield facility and was
able to get access to my server by providing verification electronically
that I had the right to access the data center. They will even reboot your
server for free if the OS fails, and you do not have a KVM over IP switch.
Waveform has no NOC. Waveform has a single tech with a Blackberry who will
only answer said Blackberry if there is the possibility of a $135 an hour
access fee. If you go with Waveform, buy a KVM over IP switch and hope you
never experience hardware failure, unless it happens during limited business
hours.

As a Waveform Technology employee, I just wanted to take a minute and talk about all the efforts we've made, and are continuing to make, to improve our colocation services.

We've made several technical improvements to our infrastructure in the past couple years, including consolidating all our colocation customers into a new data center. We've added network capacity, improved redundancy, and hardened the physical security of our facility.

We've always worked to ensure our data centers are world class, but we've also made efforts to improve our customer support. We've recently increased our customer support staff and added new customer support training programs for existing staff members. Our sales system has been completely revamped and technical support streamlined to give us quicker responses times.

Waveform Technology colocation has never been about bells and whistles or value added services--it's reliable colocation at an affordable price. We've never raised our pricing for 1u and mid-tower servers and we're always striving to make improvements to increase the value for our customers.

There's a new website up and running (»www.michigan-colocation.com) with plenty of information about our data center and Waveform's various products. Our sales staff is always willing to answer any questions that you might have.

Thanks!

I have to speak out on behalf of the team here at Waveform Technology (»www.waveform.net)

Our technicians work long hard hours to try to provide the best support possible to our customers. Unfortunately, as much as we do try, occasionally we fall short on our efforts. We do continually try to improve our response times.

We have recently moved customer equipment to a new datacenter(»www.waveform.net/datacenter) located in south Troy, Michigan. Our new facility provides improved bandwidth capability, better physical security, tighter environmental controls and more space for customers to service their equipment on-site.

We do believe that we provide the past value in single server colocation, be it mid tower or 1u. Our pricing has not changed since 2004 (»www.waveform.net/colo), and our commitment to providing these values has not either.

I have been a client for 1 year, and have never had a good experience with support or sales. Was overcharged for 2 months and had to fight to fix the charges. No 24x7 interaction. Asked to have a server shipped back, after 1 week of no phone call response, found 1 message in my junk e-mail. They will not call you back, only communicate by e-mail. Almost impossible to get a hold of by phone. It literally took threatening to take legal action to get a fast and expedient response.

I moved my equipment to a facility that is more expensive but has a 24x7 tech line, is closer to my physical location and has a 30min response time. Waveform is not a company I would recommend to anyone, unless you were not running anything that was production or critical. Non-Critical Development environments only.

Ok so you have never heard of Waveform Technology? Yea neither had I.

I signed up with them about a year ago to Co-locate a server for a project at work, turns out we did not need it (as I figured) so I took it over.

$50/month for 1TB of transfer WOW!

No really I did not typo.

I wanted to give a big thanks to them, my server s*it the bed tonight after hours and Bill still went in to reboot it.

Really, if you ever wanted a server of your own out there and did not want to drop the small fortune ev1 or someone else has, give these guys a call.

Sure they don't have remote power outlets and all the cool monitoring gizmos but they do provide a great value service.

We installed DSL service for the Birmingham office of the company for which I work. Through the excellent coordination of Waveform, we never had to deal with any problems: they solved all of them for us. They even configured the workstations on our LAN, and completely set up our VPN. Kudos to them!

The fact that I am employed by Waveform notwithstanding, the installation of DSL service to my home was very a pleasent experience. The time from order to installation was shorter than was quoted, as well as shorter than industry average. The installation technicians were extremely knowledgeable, curtious and prompt. I was given an installation window of between 8:30 AM and Noon , the tech showed up 8:45 AM, and was actually alert! Since installation I have experienced no down time or gliches in my service, and have been pleased with my dowload speeds. On the whole I am very pleased with the service I am recieving!
