I find it interesting that even though all these people post to dslreports.com they do not put their names after their own posts. I have used Atlantic.net as my service provider and was quite pleased with them. Currently I use Bellsouth.net because I host from home but am still quite pleased with the level of service I recieved from Atlantic.net and it's staff.

It took Atlantic well over 30+ hours for them to resolve the e-mail server crash that started on 3/10/2004. THIS KIND OF TREATMENT IS NOT WHAT I PAY FOR!

We signed up for 128k IDSL Price $139 The order / install process was day after day week after week month after month of it is a CLEC problem. Pending facilities ect... Bottom line is we never got our service.
No follow up of any kind. I had to call them everytime leave message and then no call back.
When I did finally get a live person I asked to speak to the owner and I was told they could not give out that information. This company does not seem to care about its clients.

Jon Lewis happens to be the name of one of Atlantic's Network engineers. I find it suspicious that the only person who gave Atlantic's service a good review was named jalewis.... a little too coincidental. Anyway, their service is horrendous, due to their constant downtime. You will experience constant routing problems as well as excessive packet loss with their service.
As far as their email support goes, it is just like the rest of their service, crappy! You will be guranteed to experience excessive delays when trying to send and receive mail. If you were to ever need your password changed, it would take a minimum of 20 minutes for the changes to go through.
Their tech support is less then adequate. Half of their technicians do not know what winsock is. In fact, based on my dealings with them, I have concluded that most of them are incompetent. I spoke to a few of them that constantly gave out faulty information. Examples include "Your browser will crash if you do not clear your cache.... The reason that you get disconnected while using Instant Messenger is that your computer is idle." Obviously, they do nto realize that in order for a connection to be deemed idle, data must be neither sent nor received which is not the case with Instant Messenger. It seems that their technicians are clueless, even when dealing with basic concepts....
Further aggrevation is made possible by the constant downtime that is experienced. It makes it impossible to reach a technician since they are constantly flooded with calls (even if you could reach them, they would not know how to help you with your problem...).
The contract that they have you sign is also ridiculous. They expect you to sign a one year contract before they will offer you service. If you try and cancel, you must pay a ridiculous fee that is in most cases is well over $200. That stipulation is probably the only reason why all of their DSL customers have not yet cancelled.
I would not recommend their service to anyone at any price. If they were to offer it for free, you still would not get your money's worth. I know that it sounds harsh, but their company is a joke. Just my two cents.
(In response to your comment about my being a former employee that got fired, you are mistaken.)

I set up and signed the contract to get DSL service around November 4th. They were offering 1.5mbit dl/256k upl over PPPoA. They told me that the connection would be up in 7-10 days... two weeks later still no DSL! They said something about Bellsouth needing to approve the request for provisioning. Finally on November 28th, my DSL connection was connected. Unfortunately, they did not supply me with the password to login... at least it wasn't the one that i chose when i originally signed up. So i had to call tech support to find out... they couldn't help me. Finally, i got in touch with a Network Admin that i happen to know... he looked it up and bingo i was on in a matter of minutes.
At first the connection was okay... during gameplay there was a 4-5% packet loss... dl speeds remained mediocre... around 500Kdl/200upl. I was surprised b/c my dslam is right outside! Anyway, it's the fourth of december now and my connection has gradually gotten worse... now i'm getting packet loss all over the place! My first four hops have packet loss associated with it! Strange thing is, i can't reproduce it when i ping or tracert in DOS... it only occurs when i run tests thru dslreports or when i'm gaming. Now i just want out of this contract...
12/5/00 update... I happened to run into a bellsouth tech workin on the dslam outside. He was testing some phone lines with dsl... according to him, Lucent messed up when they installed the equipment. This may account for my poor performance. Now its a matter of gettin Atlantic.net to talk to bell and bell to go out a fix it...

BellSouth "It's not BellSouth" "They still have to deal with BellSouth" "A good alternative to Bell, with better support and more reliable service"

They're selling DSL off the BellSouth DSLAMs...so you still get to deal with the professional level of incompetence inherent to Bell. i.e. Bell probably won't get your install done right by the given due-date. Odds are, Bell will put you on the wrong DSLAM port, and you'll have to call Atlantic.net and have them troubleshoot your DSL, and then they'll call Bell and Bell will troubleshoot it. You can't talk to Bell since you're not their customer. General outages have been very rare and brief. BellSouth DSLAM failures do happen though, and are beyond anyone's control...apparently even Bell's.
The speed is good. Once your install works, it will just work.

Don't go this route unless you have to. You're better off with Bellsouths Fast Access service. You get better support and faster service when something goes wrong. The Customer Service Department is horrible. It's amazing their crappy network stays afloat.
The service works, but beyond that, it's not nearly as fast as DSL is supposed to be. I now have Telocity, which is better, but still not as fast as Bellsouth Fast Access.
And by the way, they will charge you extra for having a backup dialup. And they will charge you $10 for extra line filters.
