Still happy with the service, been down twice since I got it, and happy with the download speeds, however would love a bump on upload. Waiting for my 25/10 like Bell has.

I get faster internet than i ordered.. not sure if it's just a teaser(maybe they'll take it away after i get used to it), get all the tv channels except porno(same thing only ordered some of them i assume to take away after a free preview) and have a house phone again. was paying 37 a month for internet and 100 dollars a month for expressvu before, now i pay less and get more. Quality of hd is a little softer than bell, and mediaroom will take getting used to but overall i'm pretty happy.

update jan 23/2011
speeds have been set properly |:(
Don't have any problem with hd softness(maybe it's better maybe i don't notice anymore).
Mediaroom is way better than anything else.
I recommend this to anyone who qualifies.

update sept 16/2011
Still happy for the most part with the service i get. Wish upload was higher though.
Sending pictures thru email to family all over the country takes forever.

Update July 14/2013
Still happy, and am now on 50/10. Only complaint is the constant price increases, but otherwise it's all good.

Update Feb 27/2015.

I'm happy with the speeds, reliability, and customer service.

However I am really pissed that they're imposing penalties for exceeding my cap. I've never exceeded it before and may not in the future, but I've watched my 25mbps cap get halved, then when I got 50 it was set to a reasonable 400gb.

Currently I'm on 100, with a 500GB cap which is too low for the premium I'm paying for their service. Anyone with the ability to google it knows that data costs pennies per terrabyte, but somehow ISP's are able to gouge you for $15 per 50GB over. When there is an alternative available I will be switching. Fuck em.

Update Feb 28/2017

Still happy with Telus, now have cancelled TV services but have unlimited internet and phone for 105+tax.
Fibre is being installed in a few days, and will not cost anymore but I will receive a speed bump to 150/150.

Update Nov/2017

On 250/250 now. I have no complaints anymore, other than price compared to other countries. But for a Canadian comparison, there is none. Telus Fibre is great.

Telus has the slowest internet I have ever seen. I can't even stream one show on one device with nothing else in the house online. I even took my phone off of WiFi. I am definitely switching.

Re: internet

Well that's unfortunate. My speeds are the same 24/7 365. The only streaming issues I have are with youtube sometimes, and we all know that's their fault, not Telus's

After a few speed upgrades over the 10 years, we just recently had Internet 100/20 installed. Installation went smooth and connection seems to be consistently good. Constantly getting over advertised speed both up and down. I'm fortunate to be located fairly close to the Telus DSLAM. Maybe 300 feet away from our Townhouse unit. They also installed a new Gateway, an Actiontec T2200H and a home Wi-Fi extender, the Actiontec WEB6000Q at no additional cost. The 2 contract installers that showed up were very professional and accommodating.

We weren't really looking at upgrading to a faster package at he moment but Telus was offering some hefty discounts so we decided to take advantage of them.

We subscribe to all 3 of their services, including TV and Home Phone so our current cost for all 3 is $68.00 a month as of January 1 2017, with no contract. Our data is capped at 500gb a month, we use maybe 150gb to 250gb a month.

I have no preference between Cable or DSL other than the Telus bundle has served us well as it meets our needs at a reasonable monthly rate (with all of the discounts & promotions).

The only thing that is a little annoying is you have to be vigilant with your monthly bill to stay on top of all of the discounts and promotions to be sure that your receiving the best discounts. Generally I find myself calling in to have discounts re-applied every 6 months. If you don't, you'll notice a large noticeable spike in your monthly statement.

Earlier this year I had to downgrade my ADSL to 6/1 because that was the only way to keep it anywhere close to stable. I still had over 1% packet loss but that was the best it could do within the limitations of the aging copper in my neighbourhood. After having fibre physically installed, but dark, for a year and a half, this week it finally got turned up. Needless to say, it's an improvement (»www.speedtest.net/my-res ··· 05882067). Not only is the speed so high I haven't yet figured out how to saturate it (except in testing), but jitter is near-zero, packet loss is zero, and latency is very acceptable (40ms less than my ADSL).

I like to do wiring myself and decided on a conduit running from the demarc into my house. I could have let the TELUS contractor run the cable into the house, but (link nsfw due to language - »tinyurl.com/j2s7cnx) the quality of work performed by ISP contractors is always luck of the draw so I decided to play it safe. The "while I'm at it" projects included replacing some previously-damaged vinyl siding, removing and replacing the clothesline (attached to the same piece of siding as the demarc), and doing some air sealing. Even if the contractor was great at his or her job, there is no way they would have done all that.

The install process seemed to be fairly simple for the TELUS contractor. Terminate the end of the cable, attach a laser to it, wander over to the fibre distribution unit across the street to make sure the fibre was connected there, and finally mount the ONT on my wall and test everything. I'd never seen a fibre cable before. Astonishingly, when all the insulation is removed, the actual fibre appears to be about the diameter of one of the individual wires in a Cat5e cable or maybe even less. (Anyone know specifically what size it is?)

I was issued an Alcatel-Lucent G-240G-A ONT which is about the size of a medium hardcover book. It has two FXS (phone) ports which are inactive because TELUS by default keeps POTS on copper if it exists. (I'm now porting my POTS number to VoIP, because I expect that will be more reliable than the copper in my area.) Though the phone ports don't allow me to make calls, they will power a phone and allow me to dial numbers (nothing happens). The ONT has four network ports. 1 is active; 2-4 do nothing. Since the FXS ports are not active, the ONT didn't come with a UPS, although I have my own.

TELUS includes a router with the service, in my case the Actiontec T3200M. My review of the T3200M (»Re: Another new Modem? t3200) is in the forums. Surprisingly, it is a relatively good router, although I still like my Tomato router marginally better. You can use your own router by either placing the T3200M's Port 1 in bridge mode, or connecting your router directly to the ONT.

There's another advantage to fibre besides high quality bandwidth: easier troubleshooting. The fibre runs in one long continuous cable from the pole to my ONT. There's no splice in the demarc. (After writing this, I read that installers do put a splice in the demarc. I like my way better because...) This eliminates the need to climb up a ladder in the cold and rain (my demarc is up high) to plug a modem in there because TELUS won't roll a truck until I bypass the eight feet of Cat5e between the demarc and the modem which wasn't the problem the last six times my ADSL went out but MIGHT be this time. You never know.

TELUS fibre was a long time coming, but well worth the wait. I have informed my wife we are never moving.

Rationaile for numerical scores:

- Pre Sales information: individual who originally got permission in 2014 to install the fibre on my property told me not to call TELUS but to wait for a door-to-door rep because they would offer better deals. So I did. The door-to-door rep offered no deal at all and told me to call TELUS to get one, which I did, and did. Conspiracy theory: the door-to-door reps are on commission and the first guy knew that.

- Install Co-ordination: the installer told me TELUS's database accuracy is luck of the draw. He's shown up to install ONTs at houses that don't have fibre, and my house was listed as not having fibre despite having it installed over a year ago - the door-to-door guy overrode this.

- Connection reliability: In the past three weeks that I've had the service, uptime has been 100%.

- Tech support: Minimum 20 minute, average 45 minute wait to speak to someone who will likely not understand the problem. It's about as bad as it could be without their techs being deliberately malicious.

This turned out to be way more verbose than I originally intended, but hopefully it is interesting for someone considering fibre.

Ordered Telus 6.0 on September 7th. Rep said that the gateway will arrive on September 11th, however as soon as I found out that the gateway was nothing more than but a paperweight, I requested that they change the modem to a Thompson ST516v6. Reps acknowledged the request on the same day that I ordered the request for the change to the Thompson ST516v6.

September 11th came, mailman did not have the modem in his truck. Called Telus to retrieve the tracking number, but all they gave me was this word: Cancelled. Explained to them that I specifically ordered for a Thompson SpeedTouch 516v6 as advertised and they re-entered the order again. Now the reps said that the modem will arrive around September 16th.

September 14th came by and the mail man had my modem in his truck. This time Telus made their delivery early. Went ahead and installed the filters around my house and attempted to use the Internet using the new modem. Modem successfully connects to the Internet, but the speed is just horrible. 3.0 Megs Down and 0.5 Megs up. Called tech support and claimed that they have not provisioned my Internet fully yet and I must wait until September 16th to have the full 6.0 Megs down profile. I'll see about that.

Update on September 17th: Decided to say "Screw you Telus" for not providing me the full 6.0 speed. Yeah, apparently the marketing reps decided to deceive the customer into signing up and not telling them that they can't offer FULL 6.0Megs down in my area. Well Telus, bye bye. Never coming back again. What really pissed me off is that they said the price for half the speed is the same price for 6.0 megs.

I've had it with these idiots.

Update on October 3rd: Upon talking to staff in TekSavvy, I've found another shocking conclusion: My location is just too far from the CO, which Telus just shrugged off as they don't have enough 'base boards' to support the 6.0 service. We'll see when they install another DSLAM in my area.

Update on November 22nd: Finally there is some closure to this review. Apparently something happened between October and November which literally gave me the chance to get Telus TV. (Yes, they installed a DSLAM right in the middle of the road for me , no just joking, but I'm pretty close to it.)

Ordered Telus TV on November 4th, installer came on 17th, installed Telus TV on a ST516v6 with a switch in front of the ISA 2006 router, and it was a great experience... Though the HD channels and the second STB weren't provisioned until the next day. Speed right now is capped at 3.0 even though DMT reports 15.0 on my line. DMT report of my line is below with Telus TV and Internet on the same line. Installer was nice enough to install a POTS splitter instead of a microfilter even though I was very close to the DSLAM (~ >=100m). Hope the installer's word about the newer H.264/MPEG4 (possibly?) software can get my Internet back to 6.0 at the very least.

A word about Telus TV: It isn't that half bad with the idiots living inside my house and they even say it is clear when obviously there are pixellation with the video stream. But oh well, what can you expect when they gave me free Telus TV for the first year?!

Feb 8th Update:

Mediaroom upgrade is scheduled for me on Feb 21st, all day appointment. Hopefully I get a 15 meg line for $20/mo on this new mediaroom platform

Update in 2015:

Unfortunately due to increases of the cost, halving of the data usage and charging for overages for TV clients, I have made the decision to move on from Telus to TekSavvy. It's been a great 6 years with Telus for Internet, TV and Phone, but as with all good things, they have to come to an end.

Still using Telus as a secondary connection. As I stated in my shaw review I moved location about a year ago. As usual Telus has proven to be a very stable and reliable service. I will give a disclaimer, I am not on one of the newer plans and I am still using a speedtouch modem. But overall no compliants. As always a solid stable connection.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated my current pricing... Service Still going strong... There new support model seems to be working a bit better for them although further refinement is still required with issues.
____________________________________________________________________

I have sinced moved one of my DSL lines into my dads place to keep the servers. I have to say I was actually impressed with Telus handling of the situation... As usual when things go well they go well and when things go bad they go to the extreme bad...

At the end of day... Yes they can very annoying and very slow to get things done there connections tend to be very stable and the picture of relaibility.
________________________________________________________________________

Well after moving out east for while and than coming back. I decided to give Telus another shot at the exact setup I tried before that landed up having major issues. This time though without any phone service. 1 dry DSL 6 meg line and 1 TV with 3 meg DSL. Plus I decided to add HD to the channel lineup. (not available before) I have to say so far I am very surprised at how well things have gone. Big improvement from before.

There's only been 3 problems so far. One on the day of install they split the 2 orders. Thankfully the one tech pickup the other work order and got both lines done. Otherwise that could have had a big problem. The only other issue so far was a mass outage that effected 150 + customer. Dslam failed or something.

The biggest problem though was just getting the orders in to get the service installed. Due to my accounts being split up in the system. It took 4 or 5 phone calls before it all got done. Thank goodness for the one guy who figured it. And new how fix it.

Overall big improvement.

Super fast, reliable connection
Getting useful information about available packages can be difficult
FTTH - best option available.
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:

Value for money:

I started with internet 100, no issues. 150 became available so switched up. No issues, its a bit expensive, but its fast.

Unlimited is $15 with fiber TV service, $30 without 100mbps fiber without unlimited is 500GB then they charge extra. 150 fiber is 700GB

Install process was a bit strange.. The FTTH service is totally new here, so we had folks coming door to door selling plans. I tried calling in once I heard the network was 'lit-up' Customer service couldn't help, had to wait for someone to come door to door. When someone did show up I was told incorrect pricing as well as being told there is no bandwidth cap, which I didn't find out until the first bill! After a bunch of calls to support, I ended up just paying the $15 and upgraded to unlimited usage.

The FTTH install was a 2 part process - techs come out and wire the outside of the building, they asked where I was planning to run to house the router, and they ran a fiber cable from the road to that point of the house. Once that is done, the tech came as scheduled a few days later. Telus sets up an Optical network terminal inside the house, basically a little white box. It has 4 wan ports on it, but only the first port is active. They provide a router, but you can use your own by simply unplugging theirs and plugging your own router into the ONT port 1.

No issues with speed.. its always the same down.. I do notice that upload goes between 26-35MB depending on the time of the day. Great for uploading to cloud storage though, can't beat it. Connection hasn't gone down since I signed up 8 months ago.

They will send a letter offering internet 150.. with no pricing. The agent I called, couldn't find the price either.. In the end, I asked on dslreports and got an answer from another customer! With that info, I called back and just said I wanted to sign up. Even though all they had to do was change some info on their system, they required an onsite visit. 2 hour window! A week later, the tech called and said he was on his way, I asked what exactly he needed to do, since everything was already in place. He explained that he just has to call in to active the service, which takes about 5 minutes. He called in while he was driving over. By the time he showed up in the driveway, internet 150 was already working. He didn't even come in. So, sort of a run around.. but for the speed/price, its hard to be too critical of their installation policy.

The service has only been installed for 3 days, but first impressions are positive. Of course, these things are editable, so the final verdict will be reserved for the future.

From order to install, it was less than 72 hrs. As far as the actual Internet service itself goes, the seat-of-the-pants user experience is noticeably better that than of my previous 25/2.5 Shaw service.

A couple disappointing things:
1) No bridge mode on the Actiontec V1000H, which means I can't have a public IP address on my pfsense WAN interface. Not a huge deal, I can still make things work.

Edit: Found bridge mode for the V1000H. You really shouldn't hide that stuff.

2) Upload appears to be limited to 3 Mbps, not the 5 that Telus is advertising. A call to tech support yielded a stock, canned answer. I don't care that it exceeds the minimum service level. I want to know why it's not showing 5120 Kbps up.

Edit: I contacted support again (via chat this time) and, after 45, they had the NOC check profile setting for my port at the DSLAM and adjust.

UPDATE as of Jun 24, 2015: I continue to be absolutely satisfied. My only complaint is the lack of 100 Mbps for my address.

I ordered Telus Internet 50 (50 Mbps D/L & 10 Mbps U/L) for $40+tax/mo for the first 6 mo. and $75+tax/mo thereafter as a part of a TV+Internet bundle.

The order process was relatively straightforward in terms of calling into a Telus sales queue. It took about an hour or so in terms of waiting on hold in their queue, getting to a person, getting a credit check done, and ordering the features my family was looking for in terms of TV, internet, and home phone. (We ended up switching the home phone later on.)

The installation process was straightforward. The tech came, installed, and went.

We received the normal Actiontech V1000H equipment which has served us well.

In terms of experience, my experience has been extremely positive. The speed is great and consistent. I don't think my family has ever experienced a significant outage or packet loss since we installed Telus' internet last November. I am thoroughly satisfied with the product, and while $75+tax/mo w/o any term offers and discounts is a bit pricey, I do think I am getting excellent value given my family's extraordinarily high usage patterns. Between 5 people and about 15-20 devices (computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.), we simply do not have bandwidth conflict issues; we are able to use the internet comfortably without lag even if everyone else is doing something. I can game, two people can be watching two different YouTube feeds, and my parents can maintain their online business (i.e., email, banking, etc.) all at the same time.

So, at the end of the day, I give full marks to Telus. Thank you for a painless internet experience!

My ONLY complaint is that Telus' 100 Mbps internet isn't available in my area yet.

Service reliability and speed have been great since fiber was turned on in my area. Only problems are the website and UBB is a bit concerning (understand why it is here, just hope caps are adjusted for current day use), and the website. The new version of the customer site is terrible. Has never worked for me with out getting error (Well this is embarrassing. An error has occurred.) Support said I just had to deal with it. The classic site still worked until March 26 2015 (when I noticed it) stopped working for usage details. Called in again and have been told they are working on it and to just call in for usage. Hope that gets fixed soon with UBB around the corner. So in general years of good service with a few small hiccups, I can live with that.

Just upgraded to the bonded 50/10 package from the 15/1 package. I have had the 15/1 package for ten years at this location, and have tried the 25/1 package as well - i was never able to get more than 14/.6 in all these years.

I was hesitant in upgrading to the bonded package, assuming that i would only get double the speed (28/2) at best. I was floored to see my speed test come back as 52.92 Mbps down and 11.47 Mbps up! Life has changed!! no more dropped voip calls, and uploading pictures to facebook is instantaneous!! love it. According to the gateway, the achievable is 78 Mbps on my line, which is crazy considering it was a fifth of that with the single line. I was fully expecting this to be another speed expedition that would be cancelled days after the attempt... i'm so happy that i attempted it! If you are at all having problems with reliability on a single circuit - try the bonded option.. 1+1=4!!! wow.

Now, I just wish TELUS offered a bonded modem-only option to use a better quality gateway. The Actiontech T2200H is OK wired, but the wifi speeds are terrible (compared to the wrt1900 i had previously when i could use the stand alone adsl modem).
