Cogeco High Speed cable is great. My family has used it for four years and it may have been down three times in that period. My previous ISP Rogers was a disaster. Frequently down weekly. I understand that in December 2004 Cogeco will be implementing free anti-virus, spam and spyware monitoring of internet lines. Another reason to buy. I have no hesitation in recommending Cogeco. member for 19.3 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 19.3 years ago

Super fast download speed (10Mbps/1Mbps), Good Online tech Support Bad phone tech support most of the time , bad news servers(being fixed by cogeco ATM) Amazing Service, Speeds are out of this world, Techs online are the best of the best

Cogeco has evolved into one of the best and fastest Residential ISP's in canada and it shows. Years ago when I signed up. I wasn't to happy with the service then since it was always terrible. Now cogeco has totally smoothed out everything. I'm totally happy with they're service now. They're online tech support is totally awsome. The techs online are extremly dedicated to they're work and will go way out of they're way to help out customers. The Phone tech support could probably still use some work but with such great online support who needs phones. The speeds.. well what can you say cogeco is giving us 10/1 speeds right now on the pro service. Totally awsome. I havn't had cogeco internet go down for even 1 min yet in the last few months. Theres not much more to say then cogeco is amazing with amazing people working in it. The only drawback that I can think of would be the newsservers but they're being worked on by cogeco right now and I have confidence that it wil be good again with time. Cogeco is just all around great company that provides great service. With Cogeco pro speeds standing right now at 10Mbps/1Mbps (I have pro service) and the standard now standing at 5Mbps/640kbps theres not much more you could ask for. Great job cogeco! member for 22.6 years, 1771 visits, last login: 2.2 years ago updated 19.3 years ago

?You said the only bad thing was tech support, so why all those other stars missing? Is there something you are not telling us
| |
Yeah uhIf your so happy with the speeds (which I would @ 2Mbps down and 500Kbps up) then why is the performance 2 out of 5 stars?
 | |
|
|
hehe sorryrated the performance wrong it took me almost a year or so to notice LOL! [text was edited by author 2002-12-01 18:33:45]

IPAccording to their info page ip's are DHCP, not static. you may have the same ip for long time but that dont make it static.

Re: IPYou're right they aren't static but ip's don't change with Cogeco unless they have to split a node so you can expect to be on the same IP for very extended periods of time anyway. I've been on the same IP ever since I first had Cogeco!

Your IP is bound to your NIC's MAC address. If you change your nic you will get a different IP address.

Clarificationquote: Great ISP if you live in a low populated area but if ur in a populated area you should stick with dsl.
Not true, many people (some friend) live in highly populated areas and they get great speeds quote: Also if you get cogeco on a holiday setup is free
I, admittedly, don't know much about billing but to my knowledge there is no stipulation that holiday installs are any different from regular installs...maybe there was a promotion going on around that time. quote: The only downturn is the upload speed. Cogeco seems to be cutting everyone down on upload speed without tell them as alot of the speed results show very low upload speed. Warning to everyone that cogeco is capping your upload speed(and making it imposible for uploads to work in some file sharing programs). If cogeco would give you the upload speed your suppose to get I would be happy.
Absolutely 100% untrue, we do not cap any up or down speeds.

I would have to disagreeIf you go into kazaa and you get someone to upload from you it goes for 1 sec then automaticly goes to 0kb/s. Which means you are throttling the port(s)(I can understand throttling kazaa but if my upload speed in whole is slow then..). If your not limting my upload speed then why can no one seem to find a problem(given that I've changed everything in my computer and changed my cable modem, reinstalled windows and had techs check it etc. all finding nothing wrong). That other problem that was mentioned that you said might have been causing the problem was fixed as a week or so ago my cable tv and cable internet was going on and off for alittle bit(so I'am assuming that was why). Prove me wrong. If my upload speed gets fixed then I'am wrong but as of right now so far I have nothing to show otherwise. Back wehn I signed up most holidays where free setup. Most people on Pro get 550kbps-600kbps upload, it's something specific with you, I'm sure it is Cogeco, but most people do see 550kbps-600kbps upload on Pro like I said

And also, I'm glad they throttle ports in P2P applications, I would rather not have people downloading from me and using my bandwidth, I'm a leech and I'll say it proudly
| | |
Ok then they're throttling my upload or something. None of the cogeco techs wanna own up to it being cogecos problem so really what else do I have to think(I've already proved its not my end).

little problemsThe new pro package which I just got is great 5mb/s down and 640kb/s is the quoted speed and the speed I usally get is 4.7mb/s down and 300kb/s to 450kb/s up which is pritty good for download but bad for upload.
i'd like to comment with the pro package they no where tell you you'll get 5mb/s they say 4mb/s and sympatico is 3mb/s. and i don't know whats up with your upload because i get about that with my normal and my freind can upload at 1mb/s on pro. these stats are coming out of cornwall and they have a lot of little groups across canada so it might be alterd as you pass threw to other gorups

Re: little problemswell krispy just found that there is a sharing issue in my area(cuz it got so bad my whole internet will go down to 2kb/s download and 22kb/s upload due to everyone going on at once). Hes gonna look for a fix. Posibly there could have been a smaller same issue with upload before but not to noticable. So hopfully this fix to fix my internet almost dropping out will fix the upload to If it does I will change my review and be really happy :P

Ok, well I just got cogeco HSI standard installed...Very quick and good installation, just plugged it in, activated it and I was on my way. So far I have amazing speeds (I'm assuming that this hour is peak hour, or near it.. 7:20 PM) at all times and great ping. I used to have one megabit adsl, so this is a great improvement. Latest speedtest: 2004-10-20 19:21:23 EST: 5599 / 606 Your download speed : 5734395 bps, or 5599 kbps. A 699.9 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 621310 bps, or 606 kbps. test IP was to cgocable.net via gtconnect.net Really I can't say anything bad at this point. But I guess I'll have to see. member for 21.8 years, 1153 visits, last login: 10.4 years ago lodged 19.4 years ago

I've had Cogeco internet now for about 7 years. They've definately had some ups and downs. When I first started speeds where approx 1000/600. After a couple years they teamed up with @home and became "The Wave". The service was a little shaky then but the homepage was great. After @home went belly up Cogeco went back on their own. I had some serious problems with my Node about 3-4 years ago and tech support gave me the usual run around blaming it on my PC. Well as a PC technician I had built many PC's for my neighbours and all were having latency problems. With no resolve I had decided to look elsewhere for internet service. I tried Look Communications and that was a very sad experience that is a whole other story. Anyways came back to Cogeco after a few months and decided to push this issue with the problem in my area untill it was fixed. Finally after about another month everything was fixed. From that point till now the service has been nothing but excellent. Speeds have increased multiple times and we're now at 5000/640 for the standard service which is extremely fast. Digital television service works great as well. I'm looking forward to trying VOIP when they launch it. Keep up the great work Cogeco. member for 20.1 years, 56 visits, last login: 14.6 years ago lodged 19.5 years ago

looks deceiving?Jimmy,
I have been with look dialup since their idirect days. I was looking at high speed service on a budget. I was just wondering what went wrong with look?

Re: looks deceiving?Stumc,
Well I'm a semi-frequent gamer so speeds are very important for me. I was using looks Ultra HiSpeed service about 3-4 years ago (I think this was just before they shut down their residential service for a bit). Latency with Look was horrible when I had them. Pings were usually about 900ms+ on all game servers. Things may have changed since then but I doubt it. If you're looking for a hi speed service but are also trying to budget I'd recommend trying a HiSpeed Lite service from your local cable provider or even a DSL Basic service from a telephone provider. If you need any suggestions feel free to PM me.
