Been a Cogeco customer (digital TV + internet bundle) since 1999. They provided excellent, reliable service at my former residence. I never would have envisioned what was to come after our move. Upon moving to my new residence this July, nothing but problems, problems, problems. First, the transfer of service went wrong and they "accidentally" deleted my internet account completely, wiping out all my e-mail addresses and web content. This was coincidentally in the wake of a discussion I had with one of their customer service people regarding the fee for transfer of service, which had gone up. She was rude and had this "tough cookies - this is the way it is if you don't like it go pound salt" attitude and I suspect it was her that put in the order to cancel - not transfer - my service, out of spite. Just getting the e-mail addresses released and set up again was like pulling teeth. It seemed like no one knew or cared what to do about it all until I spoke with a "supervisor" who at least feigned interest in my dilemna and eventually made things right in that respect. It took a week just to get back up to speed in that respect. As for connectivity, it took numerous calls - some angry - and five (!) visits from repair/maint. personnel to correct my TV reception and internet connectivity problems at my current residence. They started with band-aid solutions that didn't work (ie. distribution amp) and ended up replaced my drop from the alley on another visit, then replacing connectors that were improperly mounted by previous personnel on another visit, and finally replacing my cable modem today which they acknowledged has been notorious for the type of problems I have been experiencing. By doing as *little* as they could each time they attended my residence, they only prolonged my aggravation and pushed my patience to the limit. The last two visits were prompt and provided effective solutions, but I only wished this happened on the first two-three visits! Long story made short.... the only thing Cogeco was prompt and efficient about in the last 5+ months was making sure my $132 bill got to my door every month. Kudos to their billing dept.! So why didn't I just deep six Cogeco and switch providers? There are several reasons; First, their bundle pricing means good value. If you want both digital TV and internet, it is a very good value once you take the discounts into consideration. Second, getting new e-mail addresses and web sites set up with another ISP is about as fun as getting all your snail mail redirected. Third, Cogeco does actually provide the *fastest* (hands down) internet connection in southwest Ontario. No question about it. There is not even a close second. Even during primetime, it's still faster than any competitor's DSL connection. So I reasoned that if I could stick it out and get my Cogeco internet connection working, I'd be better off in the long run. I just wish it could have been a smoother ride. If you are thinkign of subscribing, all I can say is that getting a clean solid signal into your home is Cogeco's responsibility, and you'll need to be your own advocate to make sure that happens or the weeks and months will pass and they'll just wait for you to go away and just settle with what you have. I suppose this is typical of an oligopoly, which is the best way I can describe broadband internet in my market. Bottom line: I think it has been worth staying with Cogeco and I hope this is the end of my connectivity problems, but... why did it have to come at the price of five+ months of hassles?

I've been with Cogeco about 6yrs now.
In the beginning it went down a few times but we were rebated for downtime.
It use to take about 45 minutes to get a tech, now it is within minutes.
My last call to tech, I called 4 times about not being able to upload.
The fourth person finally agreed that my modem was screwed.
All in all, a good service and I am happy with it.
Don't think I would change ISPs.........unless they raise the prices....

I had cogeco HS in Stoney Creek and in Oakville. Between I was using Sympatico DSL.

So far I have been very happy with the internet service. It get better now that webmail and the Cogeco portal is up and running. I like that Cogeco allows their techs to help and post on DSLR.

They have soft cap of 15 gigs, but that seems very fair for the average user. I haven't had any problems and I do d/l stuff.

The speed is solid, always around 4 mbps down. The install went well. I use it with a router, which so far has caused no grief.

I signed on as a Cogeco~Home customer in September 1999. I am a layman when it comes to the workings of the Internet, but was explaining Web theory to the tech support people back then - OUCH!!

My email was being sent to somebody in New Jersey and I was getting somebody's from California. It got so bad that Home had to delist my assigned user name and I got them to let me choose my own. Modem speeds were less than 1000kbps, but way better than my previous phone modem. Connections were always being lost and the Home newsgroups, though complete had low latency.Basically it sucked.

Then an interesting thing happened. Cogeco canned Home and started upgrading the service. There were a lot of tribulations during this period, especially with connectivity, but I could see my speeds getting faster and faster. The last nine months have been bliss. No connectivity issues, no calling tech support until recently - see later. Down speeds of >2500kbps and up speeds of 35-40KB/sec.

Then I did a bad thing. I joined the DSLReports and saw generally favourably postings on the Pro Package. Well, some tech support and a new cable modem later I am getting down speeds of >4700kbps and up speeds of >60KB/sec.

COGECO rocks!!

Okay now for my only gripe. Paying a premium for a faster service doesn't bother me - it keeps the riif-raff out. But not all people see the same improvement for this premium that they are paying. So how about throwing us out here a bone to equalize with the faster clients. Increase the web space from 10 to 15MB for Pro Package customers. My webpage would be forever grateful.

I'm a student, and I live with 5 other students. The first of us to move in to our new house ordered internet as soon as he had moved in. We all moved in later, expecting the net to be set up. It was not.

He was home, waiting, when Cogeco said they'd be by to install. He waited all day, and finally went outside and noticed a "We came and you weren't here" note on the door. Odd, in that he was home all day.

We had to call again and re-order. We had to wait a week before they could come by.

As far as the service goes, when there aren't any problems, it's quite fast. 3 mbit down, 400 up, I believe, and fairly close to that in reality.

Everything was peachy for the first week or so, but lately we've been experiencing more and more problems. We've also had problems with our network, but we've isolated those recently, and the speed problems are exclusively Cogeco.

A few of us are gamers, and when we first had service, we often would play with pings between 40-80, which is great. We haven't been able to play (except VERY late at night) recently without major connection problems. It's not that the connection is slow, I think, only that there are nonstop connection interruptions. The ping will go 60 -> 350 -> 999 -> 60 -> 500 -> 999, etc...

We will be calling tech support to resolve this.

Cogeco provides 7 Email addresses, I think, and 7 X 10mb webspace. All that has been easy to use and set up. No complaints there.

The only real problems have been the initial wait, and the connection issues.

I'm a Cogeco customer in Hamilton, Ontario. I was originally with Bell Sympatico at my old apartment, where I received DSL service that was satisfactory. When I moved, getting Bell to set it up at my new place was a complete fiasco. I won't get into the details since this is not a negative review of Sympatico, it is a positive review of Cogeco.

Anyway, after I waited over two weeks past the beginning of the month for Sympatico to get their act together, I finally cancelled and called up Cogeco. I was surprised when instead of having to wait 20 minutes to talk to a person, I waited less than a minute. I told them I wanted hi-speed access and asked them when I could have that installed. They looked me up and informed me that since they had already been providing cable access to the previous tenants and had not cut it off yet, I could pick up my modem right away and they would hook me up.

I went and got my modem the next day, hooked it up, and have been cruising the net without problems ever since. I am a big fan of online games, including the MMO type, so low-ping and hi-bandwidth are important to me, and I am fully satisfied with both. It is not uncommon for me to ping less than 30 ms to gaming servers in the United States. I also have blistering download speeds, and when I test my speed on this site, I am well past the 2 mbit barrier.

I couldn't be more happy with my connection quality and the service provided. Highly recommended.
