I have had MTS DSL HIGH SPEED INTERNET for 6 weeks. I pay $28.88 for the first 8 months then i pay $35.00 after that. I phoned mts and then the next week i got it. took 30 min. to install. after that phoned shaw and took back the shaw modem. and MTS was working great. its always on. had no problems with it. when I had shaw it was going out every night for an hour. then when got back on my speeds were so bad. then called MTS got it. my speeds are 1300 kbps but thats because mts tv is not in my area yet. I phoned them about that. they said once its in my area i will get better speed. UPDATE: I called them today to ask how to change my second account password. they said i have to phone them. MTS NEEDS to set it up online. and able to create email addresses. thats something mts should work on. thanks. member for 19 years, 1 visits, last login: 18.8 years ago updated 19 years ago
I had mts dsl internet package since 2001 (I think, can't remember the exact year), then switched to shaw when i moved to WPG, then back to mts, in september 2004. initially mts's download speeds were a consistant 160 kb/s, and uploads were actually fast than they currently are, usually averaging 60 kb/s. When i moved to wpg, i got the basic shaw account, and was seeing the same download speeds, and the same upload speeds. seeing such, and shaw's tech support, didnt want to be very helpful, i decided to give mts another go. currently i average 360 kb/s from high throughput servers, but my upload speed is capped at 40 kb/s. kinda disgusting... Anyways, once my contract for the first 8 months is up, i believe i will be switching back over to shaw, or atleast test out their extreme package. Not that i dislike mts, but i want the higher upload speeds, weather it be for transfers to friends on hosting my own server/site. it's painfully slow with the standard 40 kb/s up. One additional thing to keep in mind, with my current situation is, i was receiving 5 percent packet loss on occasion. not to sure why, hasnt really cleared up, but hasnt really affected the service much either. Oh well, i guess that what you get for 28.88 plus tax member for 19.3 years, 5 visits, last login: 19.1 years ago lodged 19.2 years ago
After moving into my new apartment, I initially called Shaw, but they didn't do installations or service in my building. I was disappointed, thats for sure, but I had heard decent things about MTS. It was the only other high speed option for me. So I called three weeks in advance of our posession date, and recieved an install date 4 days after we move in. I was close to Christmas, so I figured that was the reason, and wasn't too upset about it. The tech for the first attempt at installing was on time, and basically dropped off the modem and plugged it in. He said it wasn't getting sync (which i verified) and he called it in to some center, saying that it would be fixed later that day remotely. So, next day, no sync. I call up their tech support line, and I'm told it was not called in (I was right there when he did) and he put a ticket up, and sheduled a repair tech for the next day. Go figure, i need an install in 3 weeks, and they can't do it. something goes wrong, the next day? Oh well. So the second tech comes by, and says he needs to rewire the outlit, and he does, and we're online. But two days later, what happens? No sync. None, at all. So I call MTS Tech support again, and they say they need to get a tech out again to try fixing it. Took 4 days to get another out, and when he was there, he replaced the DSL modem and gave us a new one. Synced up, working fine. Later that day, me and the roommate noticed that whenever someone calls our home line, the internet would lose sync, then as soon as the phone was back on the hook, it would gain sync again. Weird problem. So I call MTS Tech support AGAIN, and proceed to explain the issue. He says, okay, we'll get a tech out the next day. Excellent, next day is good. Tech comes, rewires the outlit a bit and he says this should be the last time we need a tech. I tell him I hope so, and he heads out. Since that day, which was approximately 3 weeks after the installation, we have had great internet, no losses and excellent speed. We are getting consistantly 3-4MB down and 512K up. It's wonderful! member for 19.6 years, 2 visits, last login: 19.2 years ago lodged 19.2 years ago
update... not much to really update... everything is still great... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ -GF bugged me to get it... -called them... -5 days later modem arrived... -super-easy install... -use Dr. TCP to tweak settings to get better speeds(prev was @ 1.4Mbps) -great speeds: 2.4-2.7Mbps download 250-300Kbps upload -excellent bang for the buck... -definitely beats shaw... speed never dips or dives significantly... heard shaw has up to 5.0M for about $50(but is it really worth it? unless you are really a hardcore downloader 24/7!) -friend has MTS TV and you get extra $ off the already great price... -I don't have the TV service so my price is $28.88 per mos for 8 mos then $39.99 per mos for 4 -talked to MTS tech did you know that their MTS TV is actually VDSL which pumps out a true digi signal @ 15Mbps continuously, then 3Mbps extra is for your DSL(total of 18Mbps) running out of your terminal? -CRTC rules prevent them from running the actual connection higher than 3Mbps because of unfair competitive advantages... member for 19.5 years, 3 visits, last login: 18.5 years ago lodged 19.5 years ago
I have had MTS Internet business service for over 2 years as a redundant backup for my Shaw business connection - I have had no outages.... Shaw has been nowhere near as reliable. MTS has come a long way in the past few years from their abysmal customer service to actually providing reps that know what they are doing. I am quite satisfied with their service overall. member for 20.5 years, 155 visits, last login: 9.8 years ago lodged 19.5 years ago
After being fed-up with dialup internet service from 3web (nothing in particular except for speed, phone line being tied up, and needing to have my laptop near a phone jack), I decided to split the cost for MTS DSL with 3 others in my household. Best decision I ever made! After 5 business days, a box arrived at my doorstep with the self-install kit they promised. For free. I didn't have to spend a dime on the DSL modem, NIC (which only go for like $10 nowadays anyway unless you go wireless), software, or the in-line filters (so you don't hear the DSL noise when on the phone). I plugged the network card into the main computer of the house (it was so old it didn't come with one) and the drivers installed correctly with the CD. The PPPoE client also installed on the comp from the CD without problems. After setup... it didn't recognize the username. The box actually said I shouldn't have installed it for another day, so I tried again the next morning... and still nothing. A quick call to tech support (I was on hold for maybe 5-10 minutes, and waited for another 10 after I stated my problem) got my account up and running. My speeds were high from the get-go and didn't let up at all. Since then I bought a wireless router for my laptop and now I connect through the router and still get nice and high speed. I've had to call tech support once more to ask a question regarding setting up my router (I'm a moron though... I should have figured out that the IP is dynamic even though the DNS server addresses are static and given to you >). The only other problem I had was setting up the router, but that's D-Link's problem, not MTS. Overall, I think I'll stick with MTS since it uses my phone line (without tying it up ) and doesn't require a cable guy to install a co-ax jack. I just don't trust cable companies. They've never needed to require consistent service like the phone companies have. Oh, and right now the first 8 months are $28.88 instead of $40. Not as good as some other ISPs who give you all those savings in the first two months, but I'm not complaining. Not one bit. member for 19.6 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 19.6 years ago

I had a free month of mts. I had shaw and mts at the same time. MTS much better pinging for games. I switch to MTS. 1 month later pings double. Been like that for 1 month now. I complain. They make up bs excuses. I miss shaw. December 29, 2003 MTS digital tv is superior to shaw's, ive had them both. member for 22.2 years, 89 visits, last login: 5 years ago lodged 20.3 years ago
I found that the tech suport over the last years has gotten better. but they stioll need to work on not blaming everybody else and looking for the issues right away. I also find that it makes a big difference on tech support on who you get which really should not make a difference. also note the sales teams need to talk to the tech team more before making promises that are hard to keep. What really impressed me was the follow up from the tech support guys the next day to retest everything and make sure I was working 100%. Now as for there mail servers and domain hosting forget it go somewhere else. the mts mail server is full of holes and you will get so much spam and porn it is stupid. there mail servers are out of time always going down and losing mail yes thats right losing mail. the domains I use to host with them also would go down 1 once a week. BUT the mail server issue is crazy. my mts mail account get 100 to 200 spam mail a day and they do not seem to care about the mail server and for a business this is NOT acceptable. so mts for connection great for mail server go somewhere else. member for 22.3 years, 254 visits, last login: 17.1 years ago lodged 20.3 years ago
I had been on Shaw High Speed for 2 months, and because I'm living close to UofM, the speed on Shaw had been lower than 100KBps. After numerous complaints with Shaw and did not getting the results solved, I decided to switch to MTS High Speed Edition. I did not have a phone line, so I have to order the phone line at the same time. Ordered both the phone line and internet service through a MTS store at 6:00pm on Nov 18, the sales told me the phone line should be ready on Nov 20, and the Internet should be ready 2 to 3 days later. The phone line was not ready on Nov 20, I called MTS in the morning of Nov 21, got to an agent within a minute and they checked again and also told me that they are enhancing the line for internet on Nov 21. The phone line was ready the same day before 5:00pm. To my surprise the modem also arrived the same day. The installation is easy, and the instruction on the manual is clear. I don't use the software though, as I prefer to use RASPPPOE (I used to use it when I was with Bell Sympatico in Ontario.) The first time I logon the password is rejected. After making sure I typed correctly and the login still did not get through, I gave a call to MTS Internet support. Within a minute I'm already talking to an agent, and the agent explain to me politely that they haven't enabled my account yet, because they do not want to start charging me for the time I haven't start using the service. Instantly he enabled my account, and I can connect before I hang up the phone. Speed test shows 1022/324 even before checking. It looks like stable speed too. My girlfriend tried some download and the speed is much better than the speed on Shaw. The downside is, we can't achieve more than 1024 kbps like the Shaw sometimes can. But given that I haven't seen even 1000kbps on Shaw for weeks already, that's irrelevant to me. [updated 22Nov2003] Some test results as at 1:30am, Nov 22. Although I was still sleeping at that time, I was surprised on their service. I also cut my service from Shaw today, they still haven't replied the complaint I sent last week. [updated Dec 17, 2003] It's rock solid. My girlfriend is doing a lot of downloading now, while I still can remote control my computers in office. It wasn't possible when I was with Shaw. A few days ago a lady from MTS called me to do a questionaire about the installation process. They are putting a lot of effort into quality control. member for 20.4 years, 838 visits, last login: 4.5 years ago updated 20.3 years ago |
