I got Shaw installed two weeks ago and i must say that i am very pleased with my overall shaw experince so far. I ordered digital cable and high speed internet on a saturday and it was installed on a monday morning. The installer got everything working in 1 hour. showed us our tv guide and left. he cleaned up after him self and didnt leave a mess and was very professional. I ordered high speed internet at 19.95 a month for 3 months then after it $33.00 for internet when bundled with tv. the customer service reps are very friendly and in all very satisfied

Yes it has

They took all my updates sped the fuck out of the netblock then reassigned me to a new slow as fuck one hoping I would do their job for them again because they seem to be too stupid to delegate their own network.

I agree

Telus has forced me to move to Shaw since they cannot support higher speeds in my area. Well, I'm glad i moved to Shaw Xtreme I. The service has been outstanding and i get much better speeds for lower price. Also my pings have lowered for my games. Overall, I'm really happy with Shaw.

I had recently relocated to Canada from the USA and did not have any information to open an account such as a social insurance number, Canadian credit history, etc. The account reps at Shaw were very helpful in working with my circumstances and getting my service established. They explained the different packages and did not try to force the most expensive package or bundled packages on me. The service was installed without problems a few days later. The installer was also professional and helpful in making sure everything works.

There have been occasional outages due to freakish Vancouver weather and I have been able to get a support representative on the phone with very little hold time and the issues are resolved a few hour later.

Shaw is constantly upgrading network bandwidth and rolling out DOCSIS 3.0. The speed upgrades have been automatic with no increase in prices.

crying like a baby

Lucky you didn't move to the greater Toronto area, you'd be crying like a baby. Much higher prices, speed throttling and traffic shaping, no newsgroups and much lower speeds. When they roll out docsis 3 in Canada you'll wish you were back in America the caps here are a sick joke not to mention the prices will be at least quadruple what they are now in America for docsis 3 service.

Good speed 99% of the time. Uplink a little too slow for sending large files. Excellent technical support including the ability to enter your phone number for a call back instead of putting up with the blather coming through the phone when in a que. Modem updates without asking for older modems. Service people knowledgeable and quick to respond if problem is not at the shaw site. Overall, a pleasure to deal with.

Update Feb 28/09
Been about a year since last update. Still having to live with the port scanning, but that is part of the reason I have a firewall up. Shaw service has improved, when tech problems arise I can usually get a tech next morning. And Shaw has proactively called me to ask about service I receive a few times. Still using Standard internet package, light phone service and digital cable.

Update 07-08-08
After being prodded by system message, I have written this update. Service for the most part still works fine. It would be nice if Shaw did something about the now continuous port scanning going on in my node.

Update 10-28-07
Well I have been using Shaw Internet and Phone in my new apartment for a few months now. Service is working fine.

One MAJOR hiccup though, I was offered extreme for 6 months at the same rate I paid for regular service. after I upgraded very bizarre troubles started my new 10MB/sec Extreme service dropped to 2MB/s almost as soon as they switched me. Even after a tech visit and 2 weeks of allowing the network techs to fix the problem did nothing. My service never rose above 2MB/s. So yesterday I switched back to regular service and was back to 4.5MB/sec after a power cycle. I still have no idea what the problem was and obviously neither does Shaw.

-------------
I have been using shaw bundle since feb/06. I now have tv, phone and intenet with Shaw. I have had 2 problems in that time, the first visit after the tech replacing a filter, he replaced all the lines inside the house and ran a new drop "because they were looking old"(a nice touch IHMO).

The second visit was due to complaints from the alarm company about quality of phone levels for monitored alarm(alarm company is owned by local telco MTS, go figure they had a problem with Shaw phone). Was offered same day tech call, tech added amplifier to system and raised signal for all tv and internet too. ^^

update 09-11-06
Tech support like with most ISPs is still hit and miss. The only real problems I have had recently are the result of a fire 2 blocks over burning through the main line last month. There have been a few outages since then related to repairing this.

Paying $150/month(taxes in) for Shaw home internet, Shaw phone and enhanced video with movie channels.

Shaw - West Vancouver

I also made the switch from Telus to Shaw. For my Internet & home phone service.

Everything worked as it should for the first 2 days. On the third day I lost my telephone service. I called customer service to report the problem and request that they fix the problem ASAP. I reported the problem on Friday morning. They where not able to book an appointment to fix the problem until Wednesday.

--

On Wednesday a technician came out and ended up telling me that line signal is too weak. He had to do something on the main line down the street. After doing this and replacing the filter on the line the service was back up and running.

I did mention to him maybe the line from the street to the house should be changed? He said it was fine. Funny enough the following day someone else from Shaw came to the house and changed the line from the house to the main line on the street.

Everything is working fine now and I do enjoy the faster Internet speed and the features the digital phone has to offer. Such as being able to log onto the web and forward your home phone to another number.

Shaw you must work on your customer service.

Report on Shaw

Don't know what happened with Shuttle, some people are just unlucky I guess...Shaw's been great with me, customer service is the best I've ever experienced, I have extreme and I'm lovin it, I have had up to 25+mb downloads, but mostly in the 3.5mb/sec to 6mb/s....for 11 bucks (or less) more it's well worth it if you want REAL broadband...

Now if I could only get Shaw to lower their NITRO speed access....$50 is a little steep.

Same deal here

We have the Shaw 5mb internet here too. A couple months ago I tried upgrading to the faster 10/mb speed and it was the same problem, much slower! The techs could find nothing wrong so I ended up downgrading to the faster 5mb rate.

Shaw customer service has always been good when I call.

Reviewing my time with Shaw over the last year, my area had become congested and it took Shaw close to a year to get around to finally addressing it. Tech service can be inconsistent at times, but generally the people working there seem nice enough.

I tried to get some credit for the time where my internet speeds would drop down to 2-3 Mbit per second, but no go. I would probably think about switching to another provider when I move in a few months, depending on the promotional deals at the time.

I have had service for about 2 ½ yrs now. From order to install was about 2 weeks because of Christmas. $42.95 month including $5 modem rental. I have since purchased the modem from them for $29.95 therefore I now only pay $37.95 Not exactly sure what speeds I ordered - dynamic IP that has only charged 4 times in the last 2.5 yrs. Because I have Digital Cable I get a 2nd IP for free. Connected with a Non Docsis Terayon Terajet. Area is not yet have the infrastructure to handle docsis. Install was very smooth. Modem would not synch turned out they had me provisioned to the wrong Node. 2min call and all was good. Tech never touched the PC nic already installed and I did not want there software. Initial speed test were around 3000 kbps dl and 400 kbps UL. Few tweaks and got my dl up to about 3500 kbps. Mail for the first year was intermittent would sometimes take 2-3 days to get mail.

About 6 months in was when I started having problems. CATV and HSI would drop about 50-60 times a day. Serious RF issues. Numerous calls to Shaw and 4 techs later they stated they had no idea what the problem was. Turns out because of the unusual warm weather we were having the signal was dropping to low. Early morning and from about 9PM on everything was fine. The issue took about 2 months to get resolved. Everything ran great again for about a year then I started having problems again. At least 2 times a week for the last year my services will drop again both CATV and HSI. Countless calls to advise them of the issue but still nothing has been done. So that is where I stand now. Service is good when it works but always seem to go down when you want to use it. Oh well we'll see what happens this summer. Warm weather should be coming anytime soon. If I have the same problems I did 2 yrs ago I will problem drop all services and go with Bell Express Vu. I have already called and can get 3 receivers and HSI installed for $250 and $102.95 month. I pay $110.85 now for my Total Home Bundle including rental of 2 dig boxes.

UPDATE 7-16-05

Speeds lately really suck. 1200/210. less than ½ what I use to get. Called Shaw to have them check my rf. They say all looks good The rep tried to blame my router until I advised that even if I direct connect I get the same. Area still has not been upgrade to handle Docsis and probably wont be for a another couple of years so therefore the new Extreme service is not available. Service reliability has been okay. A few outages lasting a couple hrs for the last 6 months. not to bad..

UPDATE 01/18/06

Got my modem swapped and all is good. Service is stable. As before a couple of minor service interruptions here and there.

I have also since signed up with Bell Sympatico High Speed. Connection is great. Not one minute of downtime. DL is the same but up load is 250kbps faster. I use the Sympatico for my XBox and my wife uses Shaw. Not currently paying for Sympatico as took them a few days shy of 2 months to activate so I got a bunch of credit. I figure once I start paying for Sympatico I will drop Shaw. Sympatico is a few bucks more $44.95 compared to $37.95 but the extra upload is worth it.

UPDATE 8/15/06

I have recently moved as of July 1st from east end to west end. Speeds here suck for some reason possible node saturation I guess but I can't see that being the case, but not much I can do. All new wiring in the house even a new drop from the pole had a tech out to check the RF and all is good. Got word today that new xTreme was available. Called them up after work and setup an appt for Friday to swap the modem. The best part about it is it means they finally upgrade the network to Docsis which means Digital Voice and VOD are on the way.

BYE BYE BELL

My above comment about Sympatico UL being faster and me dropping Shaw once I started to pay for Bell obviously is not the case. Bell dropped my UP in half about 3 months into the contract and never bothered to do anything about it. The whole company is a bunch of well you know. Anyways we'll have to see how things go with the new xTreme

UPDATE 1/16/09

Well it has been almost 2.5 years now since my last update. Based on me not updating you can take that as everything is doing great. My DL is 10000+ with an UL in the high 800's. I only recently started having problems. In NOV I was getting extremely slow speeds. Called up Shaw and the issue was resolved within 24hrs. Turns out that they were doing some maintenance on there end. Up until the 1st week of Jan everything was great. Now during peak times 6PM-12AM my speeds are very slow. Ping times in 1500+. Called Shaw and they couldn't see anything on there end and suggested that my SB 5101 could be the problem.

Other than my recent problems everything has been great as I mentioned about. I got there Digital Voice installed in Feb 08 and have never had a problem it. Not once has it gone out. The only issue was at the time of install. The install tech was not too familiar with Voice installs and did not know how to configure my junction box or what ever it is called to get all jacks in my house working so it ended up that the MTA was installed in my downstairs bathroom/laundry room and I only have the one line direct from the MTA. Oh well what ever it works and maybe someday I will have them come back out and fix it up properly for me. VOD followed shortly after the availability of Digital Voice. I only have one work for Shaw OnDemand service "Sucks." There programming is very limited and over priced. I would rather go to Block Buster and rent the movie pay the same price and get to keep if for a week +.

not that bad service

If you're getting lower speeds but fewer outages then maybe your line wasn't capable of handling the higher speeds.

Shaw needs to spend money

The problem is Shaw spent nothing on upgrading their network. The same can be said for the sorry state of the internet in Canada with all these other isp's. Canada must spend money and upgrade the networks and the infrastructure or end up dead last in the world behind countries such as India and Ethiopia. It simply is pitiful and unjust what these Canadian isp's are doing to their subscribers.

I am on Nitro Speed which is up to 25Mbps down but only 1 Mbps up. I would like a faster upload speed.

Used to work for Shaw, and all it takes if you have speed issues is a phone call...if you need a service call...it will get fixed.

As for people who say they get extremely slow speeds with their torrents... Get a life... Torrents will not download anywhere near maximum speeds..remember, you are downloading it off of other PC's..so you are limited to their UPLOAD.. (ie...mine is 1Mbps not 10)

Want to see how fast you can download? try a newsgroup or two.. I get a consistent 22Mbps +.
