I love the service Just wish they would help me get a static IP address without paying an extra 45 Dollars a month. Only want to host a small Web page Private and News server. And don't like to use my IP cause it is long and a URL is short and easy to remember. Other then that they Rock, Very Fast service I can peek downloads from Microsoft sites at like 900KBPS

This has been an interesting experience. I'm rating shaw, because thats who my current isp is. in my area, cable used to be handled by rogers, and that was poo to say the least. overloading hubs, excruciatingly slow downloads, even worse uploads, and terrible stability. i heard shaw was taking over, and from experience at my friend's house, who always had shaw, i knew it would be great. now i have it, and i'm sure glad i didn't switch to dsl. other than the upload/download limits adsl has, the telco here is useless. now i get ** Speed 4015(down)/482(up) kbps **, and i'm very happy with it. the only complaint would be that my friend gets 960kbps upload, even though he's on the same system. but hey, i love the service, 30 ping to my favourite CS servers, and very stable, as well as very fast. so far i haven't found one person who can complain about the new shaw service. and i hear its going to get faster too...

Was very happy with the sales staff. set up a time for install that fit my needs. they were here on time and were very professional and answered every question I had about cable internet. The tech installer came 10 minutes after the cable line was adjusted. I got a free modem, free software, free install and the tech did not leave until he showed me everything worked and then left an excellent manual in case I had more questions in the future. Speed was good until they switch me from the old Rogers network which went through the US to the Canadian Shaw Back bone through Canada-then speed went through the roof!!!! WOW-very happy with the experience. I was so impressed that I brought 5 other dial-up friends to Shaw as well. Mail has been down at max for one hour and when switched from Rogers to Shaw network they did the work at 3am!!! I was nervous based on all the Rogers stories in Ontario but Shaw here in British Columbia has been just as they promised!

I have had Shaw@Home for 5 months now and am very happy with the service. Any problems or questions that I have had were solved/answered quickly through thier great customer support. The speeds are awesome with the average speed (at almost anytime of the day) being around 2mbps. I have reached as high as 7.5mbps off of the news server at night. I have not had one second of downtime yet. Awesome service for a great price of $39.95CDN with no cost for the external Terayon modem and free install and a free NIC and two free months to start. With thier tell-a-buddy program I have gotten an aditional two free months of service so my total cost for 5 months of service so far has been 40 bucks and tax. Can't beat it.

    Vancouver Island, BC

I have been a subscriber to Shaw@Home now since Aug.2000

The Terayon modem is included in the rental ($39.95 if you also subscribe to basic tv cable, $49.95 if you choose to only have the Internet) the NIC was free.

Overall I am really satisfied with their service. The tech who did the installation was helpful, educated and informed me of basic security measures that should be taken when on a network. eg: Installing a firewall. The mail server has been a problem in the past but it no longer is an issue for me. Shaw does seem to be heading towards becoming the leading service provider in this country. I cannot comment on Tech Support as I do not use them- most fixes or problems I deal with myself. A few months ago I went into my shaw@home folder and deleted all of their software labled "Tioga" as it was supposed to be of benefit to non-technical users incase of a problem whereas shaw would be able to restore some critical files. I did not like the idea of the software constantly starting and accessing my firewall- I tended to feel as if my privacy was being breached. I notified them, and at first they denied having installed the software- then... after clarifying the matter with them they said it was included in the installation but they no longer use it and quote: "Unfortunately, some customers, such as yourself, have it installed." =)

Normal speeds I do believe are advertised at between 1500-3000 Kbps

I usually get about 1500 tops but I have recorded as high as 2521 Kbps

I've been using Shaw for over two months now and I haven't had a single
problem. I read the reviews about Rogers and count my lucky stars that I
live in Calgary where Rogers doesn't exist! Just goes to show that when a
company values their customers business, it pays off for everyone in the
    end.

    Speaking from experience....

I work for Telus Mobility dealer in Edmonton and our company uses Telus business DSL. I can NOT tell you how many times the Telus mail servers go down on us... as well as the service itself... I constantly hear about Telus having connection problems... and in the 8 years I've had access with Shaw, never once did the service fail me. The only downtime that I experienced was a scheduled network upgrade.. and each time Shaw did that, my speeds got more reliable and faster...

I am in no way pushing Shaw and dissing Telus. I am just reporting my experiences and fortunately, I've had a positive one with Shaw and will continue to remain with them.

I hope those that are not happy with any provider can find one that suits their needs satisfactorily.

    Thanks!

I called in the beginning of January, and was given install date on March 15th. I was called on the 10th to notify of change of install date. Complained and got a free month. But March 15th came around; at 4pm on the dot the Shaw van showed up. So it got installed a week ahead (Big points)

It took about an hour to install, but once up it was UP!!!

I was given a free NIC (SOHOware 10/100), Modem (Terayon)
Install was included with the plan.

Speed has been around 1300, but I have downloaded off major servers up as much as 600 / KBps using Download Accelerator.

Clean service that works great in a home network/connection sharing environment.
Except for the occasional cable service hickups(very few) It's been quite reliable.
The couple of times I've used the tech support they've been very helpfull.

Actual number of outages in the last 2 years is 3. Not bad I'd say. It's also been fairly consistant on the speed tests.
