We have 2 analog lines, and 1 ADSL circuit. The ADSL circuit is avalible at about 90%. Periodic freezes with no connectivity, for several seconds to a couple of minutes periodically.
FDN Upgrade us to their DSLAM (adsl2+) from a Bellsouth Resale ,resulted in latency increase from 17-40ms average to 150 to 300ms average at best.
FDN "tech" refused to address latency issue or connectivity loss, stating " we do not guarantee speed" or "latency" "you should upgrade".
The issue is in their network, we can see the logs in the dsl router here, the PPPoE connection is not lost or resynced.
Across the DSL circuit to their DSLAM is approx 80ms, was ~16ms or less.
FDN tech downgraded speed form 6 meg to 1.5, latency increased another 50ms.
FDN probes your equipment that is attached.
We have documentation to backup the above statements.
We have had billing issues in past with FDN
We also have had difficulty resolving technical issues in past.
We have filed multiple Florida Plublic Service commission complaints in the last 2 years.
FDN was gracious on a credit when we were out of service for 1 month when wilma came through.

SERVICE: BUSINESS T-1 with 6 Voice VOIP, 1 Analog Fax!
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

We Signed the contract and sent over all paperwork for a business T-1, 6 voice lines and a analog fax line, at the end of April. During the month of may Bellsouth came out to run the lines for the T-1. FDN seems as they are very slow with the coordination of the install. As of now I am still not completely up and running.

We have the data, and yes its fast and reliable but are waiting to switch our voice lines over to FDN. Any time you call customer service and ask for a status update they dont have any information for you. All they can tell you is that it is in process. I will update as things happen. But if you need to have your service up and running fast I would not switch to FDN they are slow! They never call you back when they say the will.

6/6/05 - Still no voice up, just data.

6/21/05 - We have had everything setup for a week or so. The telephone service is horrible it sounds like a bad cell phone connection. The T-1 is the worst data service that I have ever gotten. The speeds are not stable with tons of packet loss at the first 4 hops (like i mean 15-20% per hop). Im lucky is I get 400/400 when Im paying for a dedicated 1.5/1.5

Tech support doesnt know anything but to open a support ticket, and pretty much whom ever I speak to they try to blame the problem on something else.
I will update more when more happens.

A annoying problem is that the rep can never do anything to help you, they always have to open a trouble ticket. Your having a data issue, phones down, billing error, they open a ticket and then no one gets back to you or cares!

    ------------------------------------------------
    7/1/05

As of today, FDN fixed all the latency, and speed problems with my T1. We still have a bit of packet loss on the 2-5th hops (fdn.com and epik.net) but FDN tells me this is "normal" the Telephone lines are finally working perfectly and a credit was issued for the downtime.

Hopefully this stays working! The only thing that bothers me is that FDN's network is not Redundant. So if a part goes out the whole thing is down.!

    ________________________________
    7/14/05

Phones and Data working good. Speed is solid at 1.3d/1.4u which is excellent for a t1 with 6 lines voip. Other than FDN's email servers being wicked slow and the rocky start that we had, Things are working as advertised as of now.

"Kind of pricey. Need to be more upfront about costs."
"FDN came through when no one else would"

I absolutely had to move up from dialup, but my neighborhood in West Palm Beach still doesn't have ADSL or SDSL thanks to BellSloth's inaction. And my attempts to order IDSL from Speakeasy and DSLi came to nothing because of various, apparently hard-to-explain technical difficulties. (At least Speakeasy got back to me in two days. With DSLi, I had to go through six months of scheduled, canceled, rescheduled, recanceled installation appointments before they finally admitted they couldn't do it. No, not even the DSLi rep on these forums could help.)

With FDN, the amazing thing was how painless it was to order the service. I called them, they installed it when they said they would, and bingo. When a problem arises (once every month or two there might be an outage, usually because of some problem on BellSouth's end), it's no problem to call FDN's technical support and speak to somebody in Florida. Yes, Florida -- not India. And it's always someone who knows about computers, the Internet, stuff like that, not just some jockey reading a script. All outages have been fixed by the next day; that may sound like a long time, but I usually discovered all of these problems when I came home at night, and FDN had to contact BellSouth to do the repairs.

So the service is great -- 128kpbs is at least better than dialup, and the speed has been solid both up and down. More power to them!

I do wish there were a way around the $99/month price, though I realize that IDSL is usually expensive. Unfortunately, their ADSL service (which wasn't originally available when I first ordered) is also $99/month unless you want to sign a three-year contract, which is simply insane. And they wanted to charge me an extra $200 or something in setup charges for ADSL even though I'm an existing customer. So I haven't upgraded, although I would if they would bring their prices down to something sensible.

FDN also wanted to charge me some ungodly price for a Netopia R3100 router, but those are available for $50 or less on eBay. Mine's worked fine for the past 18 months.

Two other nits: They don't list their prices on their web site, and their list of FAQs doesn't provide any information that a customer is likely to want to know. Other than that, definitely check them out, especially when everyone else says it can't be done.

Palm Harbor,Pinellas,FL
Business customer
$785 per month (36 month contract)
about 120 days
Verizon
CLEC party: Florida Digital Network
"None"
"can't meet deadlines, compatibility, billing, reliability"
"Warning!!!!!! - don't use them"

FDN can't find their way out of a paper bag. From day one we have had nothing but problems from email ( they can't keep their redundant(haHa) email servers up and running). It took them 120 days to get us up and runnning(t1). They kept changing the router settings so we would lose connectivity to our remote sites. They have no, I repeat NO redundancy or DR built into thier network so if a node goes down between your location and the internet you are done. They take no responsibility for connectivity to Verizon. Verizon treats them poorly so getting back up is very slow. They are incompatible with many fax machines and credit card terminals. Their customer service desk standard answer is we are working on it but do not have an ETA. They are really in the wrong business. They can't get the billing right. They just don't get it. They do understand that they are offering mission critical services. They feel if it is down it will come back up eventually. The ordering process was a mess, site survey a joke. Constant delays and challenges. I would never recommend them to anyone. I am worried that they will continue down this path and am looking to replace them. We started this in October of 2004 and it has only gotten worse. Two of our sites just went down for a full day- no phones, internet, credit cards, faxing, etc.

Updated October 1, 2003: Word got back to an FDN rep about my review. He contacted me ASAP, was professional and apologetic, and quickly resolved everything to my satisfaction and beyond. I have a strong feeling that measures have been taken to prevent this type of billing confusion from happening again. Thank you, FDN, and thanks also to BroadbandReports.com.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

2+ years ago, I signed up for FDN's IDSL (128/128) because it was the fastest and only thing I could get (other than satellite). I chose FDN because it was recommended, and it seemed to be the only entity willing/able to give me IDSL at that particular time.

After a long time of lobbying my contacts at Bellsouth, I was granted DSL provisioning earlier than originally scheduled. I was overjoyed. As FDN was not involved and out of gratitude to my Bellsouth contacts, Bellsouth became my provider on May 21, 2003. On the same day, I contacted FDN and we agreed that, because the contract had not yet expired, I would be billed $150. Of course, I would return the IDSL router that FDN had been renting me for $25 a month.

Today is September 19, 2003. I never received a $150 bill and the router remains here, long ago repacked in its original box, still waiting to be picked up.

Instead, I've received bills charging me for months past my disconnection and even a threatening letter. Today, a bill came for $321.05 which includes a $4.74 "late payment charge." Repeated phone calls to FDN achieve little other than they admit that it's their own internal problem, that I am right and they are wrong, that I should ignore the bills, that they don't have much control over the billing (amazing!) etc. and no time estimate as to when billing will be fixed. So meanwhile, FDN's incompetence and utter inability to present a proper bill prevents them from getting my $150 and router.

Hopefully, someone at FDN who is actually capable of fixing this, will notice this review and finally take some action.
