I have been a client of Mesa Networks for several months. I have their
high speed static broadband service and it is superb! I was a prior
customer of Earthlink and I have never been happier since my change to
Mesa. Their service is second only to their technical support. With
limited choices in Colorado, Mesa is a welcome a welcome addition.

ps: I am available for references on Mesa Networks. Please feel free
to email me.

I called Mesa Networks last Tuesday (11/25/03) and set up an appointment to get set up, or at least see if I could get connectvity here in southwest Loveland. They told me they could get someone out to my house on Monday, December 1st between 11:30 and 12:30 and apologized for not being able to get anyone out any sooner due to Thanksgiving! I asked them a few basic questions about how this all works and if they thought they could get service to me. The tech I talked to( forgot his name) told me of someone else they had gotten set up that was right around the corner from me and said that if they couldn't get me hooked up, they'd make it as if they never came out and as if I never signed up. In other words, they would come out to my house and test it out for nothing and not hassle me if they couldn't get me hooked up. So far, I was liking what I heard...

Monday, December 1st:

The tech showed up at almost exactly 11:30. Imagine that...getting someone to show up WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL!!!! The tech asked me where we would tie into the house and had me show him where I wanted things, and then he went to it. He let me know a few minutes later that he had a connection and that we were set to install, since we weren't positive we'd be able to link up. He double-checked to make sure we were a "go" and got started. I went to lunch, came back and he was done. My wife told me he had tested connectivity and let her know it was working. I plugged in my computer and to dslreports and tested download speed. 900k+download and 450k+ upload, while I was screwing around with kazaa downloads and before tweaking.

So far, I am tickled with the performance and absolutely impressed by Mesa Networks. These guys are nothing but awesome and I am glad that I signed up with them. These guys are the best, and I will highly recommend them to my friends who are in their coverage area!

A wireless solution at T1 speeds 1500/1500, dynamic IP. We're in a rural area where we couldn't even get ISDN. Once Mesa Networks determined we were within line of site from their transmitter, we were up and running in 7 days.

We're using a Linksys Cable/DSL Router.

We just moved into a smaller community (Longmont) on Denver's Front Range, and I'd given up hope of ever getting (even bad) service from Qwaste or the Deathstar. A neighbor turned me onto Mesa'a fixed wireless solution. I emailed them the next day to ask some questions, received great answers and had an installation setup in seven days.

I currently have 5 computers/devices on my home network, and I wanted to be able to host my own server for email and ssh access from work plus vpn from my home office into work (Plus the occasional diablo/aok game with friends of course). When asked about usage restrictions and extra fees for additional pc's - the answers were no and no. (They do have extra fees for add'l static ip's beyond your allowance and other goodies like extra mailboxes, see their pricing for details).

The installation was pretty slick - they mounted a small 8" antenna on my roof facing one of their towers. The antenna connected to an outdoor modem box mounted under the eaves. Spotting the antenna, much less the modem, from any distance (like the ground) is difficult unless you know what/where to look. A cat-5 wire was run along one of the outside corners of the house (once again, difficult to spot) and then down into my basement to the wiring center. Here's what I thought was neat - the cat-5 wire was plugged into a small box that had a power cord and an rj-45 jack. It turns out that the cat-5 wire is used to carry power over one pair and data over another pair to the outdoor modem. Cool. Even cooler - they showed up when they said they would and finished in the time they'd estimated.

I connected my Linksys router/hub/kitchensink to the data port and the installer had me connected in about 5 minutes to Mesa's net. Mesa run's a private net and nat's everything bound to the internet. You can get 12 dhcp addresses and 1 static (routable) ip. The default install seems to be dhcp.

The first thing I did was go to dslreports and check my speed. I'd ordered 1mbps up/down with a 6GB (that's like 200mb a day - woo!) month transfer allowance. The speed report indicated ~750 up and ~850 down for a very nice Rocks! rating. Latency from traceroutes and pings to the dns were under 30ms.

I setup a linux box to act as a mail server for a couple of domains I wanted to host (they provide a web server at their data center). After a quick exchange of emails with the support staff I was converted over to a static ip, had dns and mx entries on their dns and was able to run smtp/imap and ssh into my server from the 'net.

I've been up for 60 days now with absolutely no problems either technically or business related. This is everything I could have asked for from an isp. I've used Mindspring/Earthlink, Dimensional, Colorado SuperNet, Worldnet and Mesa is by far the best experience I've had with an isp.

Neat!

That's great! It's a shame there's nothing like this in Southern Colorado. Oh well, not much of anything works correctly/is deployed down here.

Great

That service is twice as fast on the download, about 7x on the upload and all for $6 less a month. You have a great deal going.

8-10% packet loss + random downtime

I've had Mesa's access since July and have had the following experiences:

- Installation: Excellent customer service, better than any other ISP I've ever encountered. Most likely due to their small company, and lack of dealing with horrific telco's. They showed up on time, know what they're doing, did a good job not destroying the house installing the dish. Jacked my switched LAN into their line and poof, I was online.

- Performance: initially, I was getting 300-400kb/sec downloads on the 1mbit residential plus service I ordered and about 120kb/sec upload. It seems that they've capped me to the plan I subscribed to which is ok, and get about 145kb/sec download and aproximately 100kb/sec upload max.
... Now shfor the bad, within the past 2 months, I've had about 8-20% packet loss which they ould be addressing with some software upgrades, but hasn't been fixed yet. Also I've noticed periodic service outages for maybe 20-30 mins on average, but sometimes they span up until 1-2 hrs! :/

- Cost/Features: CHEAP for what you get. $44/mo gets you 512kbit symmetrical service with often faster speeds in the download direction according to other users. Unfortunately there is a 2gb/mo limit which is fairly easy to exceed (68mb/day) and access for up to 4 computers. The next plan up is more effecient for $58/mo you get 6gb/mo a static ip and more computer access up to 12. I'm moving to lafayette and I will end up paying $88/mo for the dsl circuit, and $40/mo for an ISP. 1mbit service same as here, as you can see, quite a bit of cost savings.

Overall: great ISP, not the best ping times if you're a gamer due to some extra latency added in there somewhere, way better than average is about 70-100ms, not bad though. Packet loss gets extremely annoying if you're used to really smooth low pings. Data transfer rates are excellent, price is excellent and customer service is outstanding.
