I ordered 768/768 SDSL service from InstaNet in July of 2003. When it was finally installed in August, the CLEC was unable to provide 768kservice, and hooked me up with 256/256, much too slow for my needs. I canceled the DSL, and attempted to obtain high-speed wireless broadband access through InstaNet. This failed because of poor line-of-sight. I requested a refund of the $863.85 I had paid for 3 months service, installation, and DSL modem. I was told they were working with New Edge to determine the early termination fee, if any (since it was their fault), and then they would refund my money. The last I heard from InstaNet was 9/23/03, when they confirmed that they had received the returned modem. Since then, they have ignored all my e-mails regarding the refund.

Please keep the facts straight.

Captpackrat, You signed a contract which included a no refund policy. Then, at the time of installation, you were told what your speed would be and agreed to accept that speed. If you had not accepted, you would have had a full refund. It was your choice to continue the install at the slower speed or not. Are we supposed to pay for your change of mind? We sent you a check for the returned modem. What more do you want? There are some people who will never be happy, no matter how much you try...

I decided that it was time to move up to broadband from dial-up, and I
began by thinking I would go the cable route. Unfortunately, my local
provider is Adelphia. After going through their interminable phone tree,
and making my final selection (sign up for cable), the recorded voice
said to please wait and someone would be with me shortly. After a couple
of minutes of dead silence, I got the phone company recording "If you'd
like to make a call, please hang up . . ."

I took this as a sign that Adelphia's corporate troubles have seeped
down to the local level - so I opted to find out what the possibilities
were in DSL. After learning that neither ATT nor Pacific Bell could
provide service (I was, they said, more than 14,000 feet from the
nearest CO), I learned via dslreports.com that Covad had a CO only 6900
feet away, their service was only $39.95/month, and there was no
installation fee. (There was a one-time $99 fee for the DSL modem that
is refundable upon return, and I had to spend $15 for an ethernet card
at Staples that I put in myself.)

While I had been told that the entire process could take 4-6 weeks, I
actually received the (self-install) DSL modem within three days via
UPS, and before I had even gotten an ethernet card, I also received
notification that my service was up and running. I went out and bought
the ethernet card, put everything together (it was really simple), and
it all worked perfectly right off the bat.

I placed my order through InstaNet in Woodland Hills, CA and they were
both nice AND professional. I'm only sorry I didn't do this sooner.

Ordered 384/128 getting consistent 1200+ / 130. Folks at Instanet know there stuff. Personal service guaranteed at an affordable price of $55 with static IP! Instanet techs coordinated with Pacbell behind the scenes to make install seamless. Received nice speedstream modem and enough filters for the whole house. Would definitely recommend the crew at Instanet for DSL service.

Ordered 384/128 but probably get faster than that. Ordered at the price indicated above. Order/install was excellent, particularly as it was the second install. Uses Westell Wirespeed modem. Static IP. Initial install was done more than a year ago and was a horror story as in any new service offered by a telco. Has improved by several orders of magnitude during the ensuing months. Now all that one would expect.
