Re: That's not much

Besides bragging and showing either you don't understand the difference between the two technologies or just want to rub it in the guy's face, what's the purpose of your post?

He's using the only technology available to him or has OOL expanded in to new areas? Last I heard, they can't even service all of the area they currently have. BTW, let me know when they start serving my area of Florida seeing as Road Runner is already here and they don't even have a local node, everything goes through Tampa and the locals that have it say the service is terrible and so do the users in Tampa.

He is 16 and clueless. Anything else need be said?
Should at least understand the difference between cable and satellite. And service available in other parts of the world before showing his ignorance.

Big Deal. I get 25000down/3000up on fiber lines. I had to kiss my fathers ass a little bit more to get them installed in my new home. And yes i am an isp as well.

Amen to mikepd

I have to agree with mikepd. Why would you brag about something that isn't even available in his area? That's a pretty low blow.

Re: Amen to mikepd

no no no darn it....i was just telling him my speeds, because OOL's speeds aren't normal cable speeds, they rock...anyway, he said that his monthly allowance transfer is 2 gigs....I was clearly stating that i transfer around 1.8 gigs every WEEK.....i wasn't bragging about my speeds...since he didn't leave any i did. Sorry if i seemed to brag.

It's ok but I'm not the judge of that. Just be cautious next time you post. Read it like you were one of us.

The point of shawn744's brag was...?

Satellite (through ihug) is available in most of New Zealand.

We have low limits here because the majority of our traffic is international, whereas in America it's all local, so of course you get lots of traffic every week for next to nothing...good on ya for bragging to him about something he can't get!

I can get cable, DSL and satellite...but only because of my location.

Re: ?

OOL is an ISP named "Optimum Online" and it seems to be only on the East coast of the united states.. in the NY, NJ or CT area so unless you live on that side of the country, your SOL. The speeds are fantastic though, 9999/1000kbps connections for normal cable modem prices. It isn't fair is it?

Metered Broadband....

Unfortunatly there are only a few broadband providers here in NZ who have an unmetered service... Cable you can get 256k unmetered (but i can't get that in my area) appart from that there are WorldNet and Net4U whose jetstart lines are only 128kbps at $29.99NZ (approx $35USD). For a faster connection you have to use metered Jetstream and that costs through the nose at $60NZD ($135usd) per gig + monthly fee of $70nzd. I just moved here from the UK where i enjoyed a 576k DSL line unmetered for only 40quid $120nzd per month!

Anyone know of a faster unmetered service here in NZ?
Or a satelite service other than Ihug which is unmetered?

Also looking for Satelite which provides TV as well as broadband CNNfn is what i'm after

Peace

The Facts!

Hi All,

Ihug Is an australian company, most isp's in australia also serve nz though. As It Stands most of australia and new-zealand DON'T HAVE CABLE. and in aus were getting more and more telephone exchanges upgraded for dsl but nz is still rather limited there, being split in half and all. satellite is one of the most viable options in the region as it isn't that expensive anymore and you can get decent speeds. so to mr Shaun744 so what if you have ool cable, good on you - i bet you're real happy sitting there with your ultra fast internet bragging to everyone else that it is soooooooo good, I hope you realise that some parts of the world are isolated from your east-coast usa internet.

sorry to everyone else about this horrid rant it isn't meant to insult anyone just give facts - and to bash shaun744!

Re: DIALUP?????

I used to have dialup.. My sattelite system blows it away. I have direcway, mayb you should look into it. The only limit we have is 169mbs in 4 hours (i know i know it sucks, cable users if you start bragging like shawn did above, your only shwoing your ingorance of the difference between technologies) . In 4 hours im guessing dialup can download 45mbs. And thats just our data cap. If we didn't have this.. Im sure at 3am I could download a few gigabytes in an hour. Im not trying to brag, mayb you should get it. When I had a download going with dialup, my browsing speeds were PAINFULLY slow, I would simply give up. Unless you already have cable or dsl access, you should get sat, its great. But if its a money thing, stick with dialup, $9.99 a month sure is cheaper than 60 dollars a month and a 600 dollar setup fee.
