As a reply to medicinekzoo0 :

This customer subscribed to a 384/384K SDSL line. Speeds were consistently delivered at the committed 384K rate / bot upstream and downstream. While 384K syncrnous DSL may not be much by by today's standards that is what the customer subscribed to, understanding the speed and the type of circuit goes a long way to realizing what speed you will get from your DSL line.

As for the network topology not sure who they spoke with, but that doesn't sound like our network. Multiple BGP connected backbones to tier 1 providers is a bit more accurate.

I ordered the service with cybermind because I was convinced it would be great to have local support and would get to talk to someone that lives and works right here in kalamazoo. This was true but the performance of the service was HORRIBLE! Everything was great all the way through installation and then once the service was live it was almost as slow as my dial up connection I had before. I talked to people in support numerous times and always got the same answers that it was either something with my computer or that there was something with the line. ATT was dispatched to check the line but ATT found no issues. Infact quite the opposite ATT side I had great line quality and should have no troubles. It wasnt until a couple months later that I found out some inside information from someone that worked at the company that I really got mad. I found out that their network is totally oversold. Webhosting, DSL customers, and their offices internal internet usage was all running on 3 T1's. Now this would probably be ok if they had a couple dozen DSL customers but they have almost 3 times that many. Now everything is much clearer. I could not get out of my contract with them but I have to have internet so I signed up with a different provider (I wont mention because this topic is about someone different) and now I have great speeds and no problems what so ever.
