I had no problems getting up and running with Deru as my ISP. Deru needed to coordinate some things with QWest (who originally setup my "No ISP" option with their QWest.net) and after that delay...I was up and running with Deru within the hour.

Pre-Sales email was typically answered within the hour....as were any post-sale questions....

I'm PPPoA with speeds matching QWest package of 1.5/1mb line...6mo contract=17.50/mo.

If I have a complaint it's that my ping times are a little high, however, I'm not sure it's Deru's problem...you see, I live 150 miles away from them and I also think that QWest's interleaving might also be an issue....Pings are consistant, albeit in the 100-200 range...my first ping to their server is 50+ms...

They have a forum on their site to post questions and rants too....

They offer 20 mailboxes, 100meg FTP Storage, as well as USENET....

For those QWest'ers trying to get away from MSN...it's worth the few extra bucks.

    ****** UPDATE 6/05 ******

I've been using DERU now for over 6 months and have recently renewed. All I can say is that these GUYS are GREAT...email (off hours) support is usually within minutes (yes...minutes) and calling them has never been a problem either. My service has always been tremendous...even though I'm 150 miles away....HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

FTP and USENET have been superb as well.

    ****** UPDATE 2/08 *******

I've had to leave DERU as my DSL is stuck at low-speed where I live, so I've switched to cable...I still highly recommend DERU as an ISP though.

Deru is now my fourth ISP since getting my SDSL connection and I have to say that Eric made the transition from my old ISP to Deru the easiest yet.
My latency has dropped an average of 100ms and gaming is great again.
I now can drop my account with Giganews because Deru has a great news server too.
Deru assigned me 1 static IP and 1 for my Cisco 678, since I have 640k DSL pro connection (640kB/640kB) the mounthly charge $39, this is the same as my last ISP but a much better connection.
The instructions for setting up the Cisco 678 for PPPoA were concise and easy to follow.
I'll keep you posted on my experiences in the coming months...

Qwest botched my switch a bit, but the Deru folks had it ready and waiting once Qwest got on the ball.

4/8/02 - still running strong with no downtime. Thanks
2/7/03 - service has been great - they have some trick to reset circuits when Qwest mucks up the line. As far as I know - Deru has had not outages for their DSL customers.

    [Update 2/19/2]

    Post Mortem:

    Hello all,

I have just been provisioned with COX HSI, so I no longer have DSL through Deru. While I was with Deru, I enjoyed reliable service and personable customer service. If DSL were not so expensive versus cable, I'd have stayed with it. It really is a fast and trouble-free BSP solution. I wish the Deru folks the best of luck.

    Hello all,

I recently called Qwest and asked them to change my ISP to Deru. I was lucky and got switched over before MSN and all of that baggage got attached to my Qwest DSL service. The switch was painless and there was no downtime between service providers. The speed is the same. Billing is a piece of cake. They email you an invoice, you print it out, and return it with your payment. I think they will bill a credit card as well. I had a few questions regarding the new service. They respond quickly. Really, there isn't much to tell... Its a great service from a local ISP. I recommend them. If you have any questions regarding switching, let me know

    Kindest regards,
    WonkusMaximus
