I have the wireless broadband through Quantum that uses the WaveRider receiver operating at the 900 mhz range. My overall opinion is negative.

I'm lucky to get tech support to answer my concerns, even when going higher up the food change to the head honcho tech guy.

The basic service I signed a 12 month contract for is $39 mo. + $10 for equipment rental. This was for "up to" 384 kbps service that never seemed to measure up. I then opted for the "up to" 512 kbps service for an additional $10. This adds up to $59 a month. My start up costs w'ere over $300. Looking back, that's extreme!!!

For that money I'm luck to see download speeds in the 200-300 kbps range. This past weekend, I was only seeing downloads in the 120 range. I'm not sure if the following is related to a wireless connection, but my upload is always on par with whatever my download is testing out as.

I've also experienced many problems in connecting to the mail server along with complete drop outs in service.

I've pretty much given up on improved service or performance. Right now, its the only broadband ( if the above performance can be called broadband) available and it's faster than dial-up. Yet the speed increase isn't worth the extra dollars.

Comcast is rolling out there high speed internet soon, by the end of the year I'm told. With that in mind, I'll bite the bullet and hope for better days.

Right now, I'm so unhappy that the possibility of contacting the B.B.B. is under consideration. From my perspective, I'm required to honor a one year contract with prompt payment while operating within the long winded end user agreement. Yet Quantum seems to think that all they have to provide is a connection to the internet without regards to the quality or reliability one would associate with a true broadband service.

My advice to those considering the service..... wait for other alternatives.

We too came to Quantum as a result of problems between BritSys and New Edge back in the Fall of 2002. Since then, the Quantum service has been flawless. I have no experience with their support, since we have had no problems. Quiet, affordable and reliable -- just what broadband should be.

We have 2 business locations in South Bend, IN. 768/768K, static IP.

My son talked me into getting DSL. I was a little leary in the beginning but once it was installed I was floored at the speed! I could not imagine going back to dialup if my life depended on it. Quantum's customer service is great and their tech support is top notch. If there was one drawback to the whole experience it is that when they told me I had to have phone filters on every phone device in the house I should have known they meant EVERY phone device. During a storm I lost my cable receiver and my $400 Efficient router because there was no filter on the telephone line to the receiver! But Quantum had someone at my house within 24 hours. I had a new router and I was back up in no time. I wish my cable company was as fast! I have heard horror stories from friends and relatives with their broadband connection and I tell them all to call Quantum!

I called my ISP to find out about DSL. I found that their DSL offerings were very limited and their knowledge of the DSL installation process left a lot to be desired. So I called the competition. The gentleman that I spoke with at Quantum not only explained the different types of DSL they offered but also each package that they offered and the pros and cons of each. By the time I was off the phone I knew exactly what to expect. There were NO surprises. Total from order to completion took 19 days most of which was waiting for the ILEC to install the dedicated line. Now my business moves faster than ever! I only wish that I can called Quantum sooner! I have called tech support twice on two smaller issues and they were fabulous. I will be sticking with Quantum long after my 12 month contract is up! They are the only choice for broadband in Southwest Michigan as far as I am concerned!
