Installed cable internet service about 1.5 years ago when the ISP was @Home. The install went fine except that the installer was late. Good speed (about 2500 down/110 up), very few outages (about 1 or 2) which lasted for a short amount of time.
The transition to ATTBI went well in December 2001. I got my credit, and my speed has been stable (1350 down/100 up). I have had two outages so far, and technical support has been responsive to both of them. I should say, however, that I have never had a problem that challenged them. Ping times to my gateway have not been good. The average latency in the evening has been about 125 ms, and it is not consistent. Ping times go as low as 25 ms and go all the way up to 600 ms. While it might be the extremely old cable line going into my house, it obviously is not good for gaming. Because I do not game, I have decided not to call technical support to see if there is a problem which can be resolved.
Conclusion: I use ATTBI for an always on connection, streaming audio, and decent download speeds. ATTBI does a good job of providing these services. For someone who games or does a lot of downloading, however, ATTBI may not be the best choice. If you need low and stable latency, you may want to go elsewhere.

I've had AT&T Broadband for 2 1/2 years. During that time I had connectivity problems about 3 times including when it switched over from excite@home. Speeds have generally been consistant, especially since AT&T took over the operation. Some on this sight have had more trouble than me with mail, newsgroups and connectivity, but I haven't experience those kind of problems as much. It's been a good ride and I think I'll stick with them. The only small worry I have is how comcast is going to change things. I use VPN for work and I also like to occasionally use the newsgroups. It will be interesting to see what AT&T Comcast's policies will be in a year.

I was an @home cable internet user when Excite@home went bankrupt. The switchover for me was done within 2 days. The service is dynamic IP with a docsis cable modem. There were two price structures: w/ or w/out own cable modem. The cable modem is RCA with both ethernet and USB connectors.
The internet access is through ATT Worldnet. The personal web site builder and publishing tools are much better than the ones @home provided. They offer seven email addresses with forwarding and other filtering.
All around a positive change for me. I hope the next transition works as well!

After struggling through DSL I converted to @Home. After their bankruptcy I was converted by AT&T to their new AT&T Broadband network. I was impressed that my downtime was less than 3 days and I've been happy with the connection since. Their DNS servers are a little flakey at times, but downtime has been insignificant.
With previous providers I was always dealing with issues, now I just use my connection. Its a little slower than before (more strict caps) but the connection and the speeds have been fairly constant. I'll take the always working, pretty constant speed over the hit and miss network we had before.
I also enjoy they fact that you don't need any of these software, computer name settings, or any other junk on your machine. My wife and I both have laptops and we just plug in and go when we need to use the connection.
Over all, great job AT&T! I would like to see the upload speed a little higher in the future, but I'm happy with what I have.
I am a little concerned about the future merger. I know other cable providers have blocked VPNs, which I use regularily. If I can not use my cable connection for VPN access to get my e-mail, then I won't pay for broadband service any longer.

Ordered cable service from @Home at a promotional price of 19.95 for six months. Now, the full contract price has kicked in at 49.95. Installation was a pain (and the @home transition didn't affect this for people I know). I had to wait 45 days and the tech failed to show up. six hours later, someone with no work order installed the modem, but didn't provision it. After three days, I managed to get it provisioned. However, since I don't subscribe to cable TV service, one week later the cable TV side of the business trapped my line, disconnecting my service. Took a week to get it back on line. This is still a danger, as AT&T has kept its internet and cable TV business units separate.
After the @home transition, my whole area was getting speeds no higher than 200 Kbps. Despite multiple postings here and in other forums and several calls to tech support, AT&T insisted that the problem was on my end, as well as on every other individual user's end in zip code 60201. After two weeks, they sent a technician, who immediately determined that the problem was not in my computer, cablemodem or wiring. Two days later, a piece of equipment was replaced at the local head end and the normal speeds returned. Since the @home transition, DNS service has been patchy at best; I work around this by using public access DNS, but would prefer something reliable from AT&T. Mail is down 5-10% of the time, but fortunately I do not have to rely on it.
In general, barring equipment problems and utter incompetence and close-mindedness from customer support, the level of service is acceptable. I occasionally encounter severe packet loss trying to reach my school network, but can't determine if it's AT&T's problem or not. An IP lease renew will screw up your connection occasionally, but that's life. The price is also acceptable given DSL options here; Earthlink goes by the same price, but with longer contracts and lower speeds, and Speakeasy charges significantly more for the same speeds.

Seven days from order to install. Went with the basic install and special promo, (six months for $24.95). Installers show up on time and did their job. The installers left the, 'Virtual Technician", CD and basic verbal instructions on how to register. 24Hrs later and three calls to Customer Care and the service is up and running. The "Virtual Technician" sucks! Registration via this method, for me, would not complete. Customer Care was worthless in resolving this problem. Searched the attbi forum at DSLR and found how to register without the CD. Thanks to the attbi techs that hang out at the attbi forum. My DL/UL is right at the cap, ~1450/124, after minor tweaking. No other complaints. A great deal for my money.

ATTBI has provided me with an inexpensive and simple way to be on the internet. I do not need the supreme speeds so I am fine. Looking forward to a longterm relationship with them. I based my personal review on the services I recieve at my home.

This used to be a reliable service, I assume since the excite changeover they are having problems. I went from good service to very on-off type of outages about 3 days out of a week.

I ordered ATTBI on a Monday, the tech said it could be installed the next day but I wasnt going to be home. You're only supposed to be charged the $20/month deal for the first 3 months, but he gave it to me the first months! He also gave me free premium installation. (Technician does everything) It was installed promptly on friday, and when I got it, I was only getting 300 bits per second down. Turns out I had a shitty line running from the street. A tech came and ran a new one, and he let me trade my dumb looking RCA Modem for the Surfboard 4100.
Now I get 160KB/sec+ downloads, and sub 50 pings in Half-Life. Browsing the internet is really great. The online LiveChat reps are REALLY nice and helpful. Customer service really cares... at least in my experience. Mail servers are fine. So far I am extremly satisfied.

Althought I've only had broadband for the first time ever starting 2 weeks ago, it sure beats dial-up. I noticed the difference right away and being a huge gamer, this is something I'd been wanting for the last couple years. AT&T may be the only cable internet service in my area, but I'm not complaining nor do I really have room to complain...yet. Sure, I've heard and read some bad things about ATTBI, but since I've never used broadband before, I have to give it a chance. When and if something goes wrong, you better believe you'll hear about it here on DSLR.
