Reviewing after 12 months as residential followed by 4 months as business. Switched due to introduction of data caps in this region. They waived the PLG early termination fee since I was continuing as a customer. Please note that the business early termination fee is much higher and is the remainder of your term times your contractual price. I telecommute full time for employment, so I can attest to quality of service during business hours. Overall quality is average as compared to prior ISPs I've dealt with (Verizon, Time Warner, Bright House). Five major outages last 16 months (4+ hours during a business day). Two of those were storm/weather related. The others involved a vehicle accident or Cox regional-wide system outages. No outages lasted longer than overnight. Do not call support asking for the impact of outages, they can't tell you where the nearest working wifi access is or an estimate for repair. I've had three additional outages as the result of cabling/equipment on site. I did the self-install initially, but was unaware that the home I moved into had improper weather-proofing on the outside connections. It took three support personnel (each criticizing the previous shoddy work) over several weeks to correct the issues. I've had the line from the pole to my house (aerial) replaced twice, the outside splitter replaced twice, addition of a box on the outside wall for weatherproofing, and inside connections cut and replaced. Equipment wise I'm using SB6141 (purchased myself) along with a Netgear WNDR 3700. I have all hard-wired devices excluding cell-phones, tablets, and the Roku streaming boxes. Outside of having to reboot the Netgear I've only had to restart the cable modem post-outages to restore connectivity. Worst support experience was the conversion from residential to business. Cox insisted on sending a tech, which was a third-party contractor. Nothing was provisioned correctly in the system, including my static ip. Had to go through support and perform all the steps myself to reconfigure. Update after 24 months on business service. Have experienced several outages, typically about 1 every three months lasting 2+ hours. I've been able to submit a ticket every time to be reimbursed for the downtime (usually 1/30th of the monthly fee). I've since upgraded to 50mbs for $119/mo. Also replaced the WNDR 3700 with an Ubiquity EdgeRouter-X. My last truck roll was 13 months ago to replace the drop due to poor signals caused by squirrels chewing up the cable. member for 15.2 years, 467 visits, last login: 2.2 years ago updated 5.2 years ago
High installation cost for an existing customer with no installation work needing to be performed on the Ultimate Tier. I was offered free installation if I accepted a phone offer, but that would have delayed installation by several days. You must call tech support several times before getting an actual fix for your connection if anything ever does go wrong, and a 1TB data cap for ALL levels of speed is ridiculous. 1TB soft data cap has now turned into a 50 gb surcharge. This is stupid and predictable. I seriously wish there was another option. I cannot in good faith give any stars for the way they have begun to imitate Comcast. member for 11 years, 27 visits, last login: 3.6 years ago updated 5.3 years ago
Gigasblast $119.99/month. Supplied my own equipment. Gigblast simple upgrade from Cox Ultimate by swapping in 32x8 modem and a phone call. member for 6.8 years, 287 visits, last login: 305 days ago updated 5.5 years ago
Cox is our only choice here besides sat. service. Google fibre is unknown in our region. AT&T is available in metro WIchita but not out here. Advertised speed is never reached by this home desktop. Cox seems to increase price and charge for everything without (much) increased benefit for customers. member for 8.5 years, 8 visits, last login: 168 days ago lodged 5.6 years ago
We've had cox for about 7 years, at first, we had tv, internet, and phone. TV, we had tv economy for two tvs, now we have contour tv with one contour box and a mini box. Internet, we had internet preferred which gave us 50 down 5up but we were moved to the 100/10 tier for free. In terms of internet equipment, we went from a chunky motorola modem to an ubee wifi gateway to using our own c6300 gateway. Only time we had an issue was when the c6300 wouldn't connect to the internet because of some provisioning issue or whatever. Overall, internet has been reliable except the upload speed. TV however, is ok due to compression and the contour box is sluggish. member for 6.3 years, 66 visits, last login: 4.8 years ago lodged 5.7 years ago
I've been using them for about 15 years, now it is the only choice where I live. Technically they mostly slipped down in reliability over the years, but added IPv6 that I require. member for 16.3 years, 353 visits, last login: 4.4 years ago updated 5.7 years ago
Cox Orange County - Nellie Gail Ranch - I first got Cox HSI back in 1998 when it was CDLP with a Cybersurfr. It was 3000/300 for $30/mo plus a $15 modem rental (or I could have purchased the modem for $400 -cough-). I saw the ad that Cox went digital so I ordered DCATV and HSI and a few years later added VoCable telephone. They sent out 2 installers, one for TV and the other for HSI. Sales was fine and the installers were out 4 or 5 days later. The install was clean and no problems despite my house being big and full of RG59. Reliability: For the 20 years I have had Cox, service reliability has been stellar save for a 2 year period of occasional outages and latency caused by an issue in my local neighborhood that was finally identified and fixed. But recently it has gotten bad again with odd stalls and daily loss of sync. Very annoying. It is getting harder to find reasons to stay with Cox. Tech Support: Online tools, like provisioning a modem through the walled garden, are a joke. Tier 1 support is largely clueless. Services: Speeds are good and I am able to reach my tier speed even during prime time. Latency is mediocre with most recent latency tests which used to be about 15ms now at 20-25ms. The biggest killer is the new cap and overage scam. I use my service a lot for Dish Anywhere so 1TB is not nearly enough considering the $100/mo price. The $100 Ultimate tier I am on used to include a 2TB soft cap which was more than enough for my Dish Anywhere habit. But Cox decided it was a good to rip off customers by cutting that cap in half to 1TB and then charge $50 in penalty fees to get it back resulting in a single year 50% price increase with nothing to show for it except a lighter wallet. Their level of market arrogance is simply astounding. Value for money: $150 for unlimited 300/30 is obscene. Local peers Spectrum and Frontier are significantly cheaper, by at least 33% on every tier, AND all of their tiers are unlimited which means they are less than 1/2 the price of Cox...HALF THE PRICE. Cox's main competitor here is AT&T who is double digital percentage cheaper with faster tiers for the money. AT&T 100/20 unlimited is $50 bundled while Cox is at $135 for 100/10. Similar differences with video with AT&T's top tier including DVR service at $134 while Cox is $200. AT&T's double play is more than $100 cheaper per month than Cox. Cox is a rip off in every product line they sell, phone, rip off, TV, rip off, alarm, rip off, HSI, total rip off. Cox used to be so great, but now they just suck. Anyone who has a choice should take it. Feb 2018 Finally had enough with the horrible service and relentless price increases. Called to cancel and was LIED TO by retention, claiming AT&T had 2 year contracts on HSI and that AT&T sucks. When corrected the agent he proceeded to argue with me until I finally asked for a manager to get my cancellation done. Unbelievable, and I am not alone in my cancellation troubles. Others on the Cox HSI forum report similar misbehavior by Cox retention reps lying and/or insulting customers who called to cancel service. After nearly 22 years as a Cox subscriber, I am very glad to have this horrible horrible company in the rearview mirror. Go F yourselves Cox. UPDATE Feb 2018 Already getting "come back to Cox" mailers. And, no. Cox, go F yourselves. I will go back to dialup or go without before going back to you lying scumbags. UPDATE May 2018 Moved to a new MDU that has Cox and AT&T Fiber. Obviously I took $70 1000/1000 unlimited over the $150 garbage high latency 300/30 from Cox, but that doesn’t stop Cox from the relentless marketing, fliers and emails (they hit up management for all new resident info) despite unsubscribing on multiple occurrences. Too bad Cox spends 100000X the effort struggling to get suckers to sign up instead of doing even a mediocre job keeping them. Drop dead Cox. You lying ripoff artists will NEVER get this ex-20 year customer back, EVER. member for 8.7 years, 1007 visits, last login: 5 years ago updated 5.9 years ago
Well after the problems with earthlink i thought i start looking for a new ISP.I Always wanted to try out Cable so i thought this was a good time to try it.Im glade i did speeds are very good and Very little if not no packet loss. The only thing i wish they Did was up that upload to 384.I seen they had 4/384 for almost 80 dollars i thought that was way to expensive for what it is.If it was a lower price i would of got that easy. The install was also very Painless and easy.. Update(its been a while) Well they have updated the speeds in Cleveland to 9/1 pretty good Yet they still have the same Routing Problems west they always had from the time i started using them the east side of the US is still good.so all in all I just droped the Connection Reliability from 5 to 4.Im still holding out hope they change this(Routing) sometime. 10/27/07 Really nothing to say.Everything has been rock solid right now im on a 12/1 connection and very happy. 7-2-2008 Well What can i say other than great service and its been getting better every year i hope it stays that way. 4-21-2018 Was a good run but this company has went to shit... member for 23.5 years, 7253 visits, last login: 87 days ago updated 5.9 years ago
I have ultimate at 300/30 and watched the rollout of gigablast religiously. Now that gigablast is in my area I am sticking with ultimate because the introduction of data caps and reduction of the data caps from 2TB to 1TB have increased my bill by 50%. I would gladly pay $150 for gigablast with no caps but at this point I am actually looking to move for the sole purpose of having a choice when it comes to ISP. These data caps along with constant price increases has caused me to despise Cox and I have recommended to everyone that can to switch to ATT fiber. member for 6.5 years, 210 visits, last login: 1.7 years ago lodged 6 years ago
consistently does not work. Had a 50MG/10MB plan for 3 years (only thing I could get over 768k). They would come out and try to fix things. We did this dance about 23- times a year. Every year they raised my price (originally $80 / mnth) behind my back (no prior warning) by about $10. Got to the end of the original contract, and they immediately slapped rate limits/usage caps on me. I went out and changed over to business ($95/mnth, no usage caps, PLUS SLAs for service restoration!). The line is not any better. I Never walk into my location after being gone for more than 6 hours, to have the internet working when I come in. I always have to reboot it, and then it lasts awhile. But so jittery I cannot participate in web video conferences due to pixilated sound and always locked up video.
