Installed Cox HSI myself with the Fast-Connect Kit which cost $29.95 with activation. Also bought the Toshiba Cable Modem for $99.95. Checked around for a different one but this was the best deal. I already had Cox Cable so my monthly bill will be $34.95. I had it up and running the same day I bought the kit.Installation of the modem driver and Cox program went real smooth. Had a few problems with email & web pages but technical support helped me solve the problems over the phone. I only waited about a minute to get through. How's that for service? I'm showing 10mbps in the status window. Don't know if this is right, cause the max download speed is supposed to be 3mbps. Very happy with it so far, its so fast. Glad I waited for Cox HSI instead of going with Ameritech DSL which was more expensive and slower. Another thing, by getting cable I'm going to disconnect my second line which will save me at least $20.00 and dumping Prodigy saved me another $22.00.

I have been a customer of theirs for about 3 years. Since about November, the connection has been very unreliable. When it is on, speeds are decent, from about 1 Mb/sec to about 3 Mb/sec. However, over the last week, My connection has been off more than on. For about a month, it seemed they had their act together, but it seems that was a false impression. Personally, at the moment, I would recommend waiting for some time, to see if they get their issues resolved, before using them.

Cox High Speed Internet is the best high-speed access available in Tucson without exception. The only problem that I had was with the installer not bringing the USB drivers for the Toshiba PCX1100U Cable Modem. He had to leave and came back about an hour later. He was unable to install the modem under Windows 98 SE and so I helped him install it under Windows XP Professional. After he left I installed the modem under Windows 98 SE. Once the installation was finished everything worked great!

No matter what anyone says, I've tried the DSL it sucks! Maybe it's just my apartment. But what is this, "I'm sorry Mr. X, but you are outside of our 9,000 ft. area and you can not get those speeds, but since you are within our 9,000 - 13,000 ft. area from our rate center, you can recieve a guaranteed 512/k up and 128/k down... and all for only 44.95" ?!? Screw DSL, I looked elsewhere 2 years ago and found Cox Cable. Damn, that is fast. And it doesn't matter how far I am from some rate center. Unless I can get a direct fiber optic into my house, I don't think I'll be switching to anything else in the future!

$34 per month about 9 days "Reasonable price, and prompt installation." "DNS out for 5 days and counting" "Go with someone else...Cox HSI can't get their act together."

PRE-INSTALLATION
I chose Cox HSI for the following reasons:
My former ISP (Sprint ION) filed to discontinue service in Southern California so I needed a new broadband ISP.
I already owned a Toshiba DOCSIS modem making the installation free.
$34.99 a month seemed pretty reasonable given the advertised limits of the service (256 up and 3000 down).
I called and ordered service and installation was scheduled for Wednesday 27th, March 2002 between 0800-1000.
INSTALLATION
The technician showed at 0930 and had me connected quickly since my house was already wired for Cat5E and satellite grade cable. Overall he was a competent installer with a good personality.
POST-INSTALLATION
Since the moment the service was installed I discovered that Cox's DNS servers in San Diego and Atlanta, and their local proxy in Orange County, were intermittently unreachable.
I called Technical Support and got the following message, Customers in all areas might be experiencing intermittent or no internet access. Our engineers are aware of the problem but there is no estimated time for repair.
Not a good sign as a brand new customer.
I decided to probe further and waited about five minutes to speak to a human. When I asked her what the problem was she said she had no idea what the problem was or when it might be fixed and also pointed out, "the guys in the NOC wouldn't tell us even if they did know what was wrong".
Now Im really nervous.
I asked that my account get a service credit for the outage and she happily obliged.
Similar calls on Wednesday evening, Thursday morning, afternoon, and evening, Friday morning, afternoon, and evening yielded much the same results.
CONCLUSION
Cox HSIs monthly rate is affordable if you have cable and phone service with them already, but if youre serious about needing reliable connectivity I could not recommend them given my experiences over the last few days.

I got this the first day they offered in Lakewood 3/22/02...I might be early in saying this but...Cox HIgh Speed Internet is AWESOME!!!
For the money you can't beat it($35 a mo. if u have one other cox service, $40 if you don't).I would advise the more advanced users out there to not bother with there software because you do not need it and you save $30, and also buy your own modem as well.I bought a 3com cable modem brand new shrink wrapped for $80 from e-bay(just make sure it is DOCSIS 1.1 compatible) and it works great! That Toshiba one that they offer is way over -priced if you ask me(i think it was $130 or $15 a mo. to rent..). They only offer DHCP only . The only problem i had was when i hooked it all up my connecting light kept blinking, so i called them and they came out the next day and had to take a filter off my line called a "PICO filter" this filter is on every line , and the reason it is there is to restrict 2 -way traffic. Make sure you bring that up when ordering.Once they took that off i was fine!..Lastly there Tech support was very helpful and very friendly!

I was a beta tester for Cox's High Speed Internet service in Cleveland and got an email stating that their service is now available to the public. It also means the free evaluation period is over. :-( Anyway, I did their self-install option and found their kit to be very comprehensive. I didn't like their Correct Connect software so I immediately uninstalled it. Other than that, I couldn't ask for a better connection for the money. Yesterday I got 2786k down and 264k up! It blows my old 700k down 128k up (if you're lucky) DSL connection with Earthlink/Ameritech out of the water. The price I have to pay now is $29.95 a month for nine months because I had a digital premium channel on their cable service. After that, I have to pay $34.95 a month. I also had to pay $99 for my Toshiba PCX2000 cable modem. I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the area.

Well, I would really love to have a nice solid 45mbps to my home, but until I figure that one out, there's Cox.
I just switched maybe 2 weeks ago. I have had DSL 256/256 for over a year. After dial-up, I thought DSL was awesome. But, I still had to log on. And in the last few months, I have had severe, and consistent disconnect problems. Tech support wasn't worth squat. They couldn't decide if they just didn't believe me, or if they just couldn't help me at all. I think it may have been the DSL modem. But I don't know to much about it, so I wouldn't know. I had planned on upgrading to a 612/256 or 1024/256 DSL but they told me it wasn't available in my area. Ugh. Which, at $88/month + ISP costs, logging on 20 times a day isn't worth it.
About 2 months ago, while visiting my sister's home. Her boyfriend showed me their cable connection. He hopped on DSL reports and hit at about 2600/200kb. This totally blew me away. I was thinking about how I had been struggling to maintain my 256/256 connection. Logging on over and over. And here he is, downloading at 2600. Reality check. So, the next day, I call the cable company, and ask a few common questions; costs, speed, etc. They gave me a price, along with a date they could install it. So, I proceed to cancel DSL, only to find out, the cable service was not ready in my area. What? So I call Qwest, and cancel the disconnect. Well, Cox didn't call me, so I called them. They said it was ready, so I had them come out that week and hook it up. Now, the agreement has changed since when I first called. The installation was now "self installation", and they no longer offered a rebate. But I was already in waist deep. And of course they didn't install a cable outlet by the computer, I had to run a cable from the TV. So I get it all set up, LAN included. And i run the install CD. These people didn't give me any of the information I was supposed to know. At this point I'm about about to smash the computer. So, I just wen't in and set it all manually. I hope there wasn't anything important on that CD!
Anyway, to get to the point, when i finally get connected, I come to DSL reports, and get a ~209/158 result. NO WAY! All this trouble for that. Well of course it picked up a since then, and I've yet to get another result under 300/200. So I guess its fasted than the DSL. And I don't have to log on. Woohoo! I have hit like 3182/285 a couple times, and usually come in at about 1500/200 - 2200/250.
The DSL costed about $50 (DSL + ISP) at about 256/256. Cable is $35 (Cable/ISP) at about 1800/230.
So far, I definitely think cable is the way to go.
But, if they ever send a 7mbps DSL to my neighborhood at a decent price, I'll have it!
