"Hourly interruptions, weekly overnight outages, unresponsive support"
"Lack of both service and support caused me to find another ISP"

The ride was relatively smooth for the first 8 months, a few hitches here and there: interruptions once or twice a month that caused me to have to reset my modem, some unexplainable lag times, but nothing to write home about really. One thing that was rather troubling from the start was the fact that the support staff seemed to become annoyed with me calling at all immediately after they got their first payment. My first idea of how helpful support would be was when they entered the wrong password for my mail account, it took three calls over the course of two hours to get them to correct it. However, nothing to consider switching ISPs over, especially considering that I'd just escaped from MSN.

Problems began to pop up in early May of 2002, a 9 hour outage was followed by hourly interruptions requiring me to physically cut and restore power to the modem, and at least once a week from then on Continet would provide an overnight outage, lasting from 7 to 16 hours. I sent several e-mails to support asking what was causing the outages, only one response was granted to me, asking me simply if I had the latest version of cisco's firmware, something entirely irrelivant to their router flaking out (which they have conceded is happening). I've called in complaints several times as well, often during outages, I'm usually told that they're working on it. In several instances I was told that the outage was because the network folks were playing with the DSL routers. There really are easier ways to get rid of customers.

I received a bill in the middle of one such outage, which is what prompted me to find another ISP - why on earth would I pay continet for an 'always on' service they weren't providing? So I went looking for and found another ISP.

If they were looking for a way to get rid of their DSL customers, it worked, for this one anyway.

Eugene,Lane,OR
Contract price not specified.
"Friendly and Courteous Sales Personel"
"None so far"
"Great So far"
Pre Sales information:

I'm a gamer by heart. I enjoy gaming but hate the high ping times that my former ISP has provided me. I decided to switch a couple of days ago (after they double billed me for the same month). So I started to look around. The more ISP's I looked at in my area the more fed up I got and was worried that I wouldn't be able to switch. I had a very strict requirement. No Credit Card is necessary. I couldn't find one. no matter where I tried. Then I found a local isp that doesn't require credit cards. The Sales Representative (Jason) who was very friendly and courteos informed me that I didn't need a credit card to set up an account and he would bill me monthly. I was extremely pleased. I think I found my new ISP and will recommend it to anyone. I just hope that the actual service lives up to my now good expectations!

"Great customer service, easy to get up and running, peer with NERO"
"Had to deal with Qwest"
"This is how ISP's are _supposed_ to be"

As a more-than-just-reading-your-email kind of user it was really important to me to find a decent ISP (anybody but Qwest). My secondary need was to work with somebody that peers with NERO (»www.nero.net) since I work for Oregon State University and want fast connectivity to my machines on campus (BTW - since they peer with NERO anybody that wants to get to an Oregon University System campus via this ISP will find it _very_ fast). I found Continet on-line and gave them a call. I told them what I had (Cisco 678) and what I wanted (basic bandwidth with dynamic IP's to connect to the University with) and they gave it to me straight ... no bull ... no up-selling. I signed up for the basic service which is $17.95/month plus my Qwest line charges which are $31.95/month. After I requested to get my DSL setup it was on in a matter of days (even though I wasn't living in the place yet). Setup was an absolute breeze ... I actually plugged everything in and just turned it on to see if it would work (and to see where to start debugging) and it was already working. No fuss, no muss. Anytime I have questions about my service (I wanted to up my speeds) they actually _called_ me instead of sending me a canned reply. That's the kind of stuff I like. I've referred everybody that works at Oregon State University that has DSL to use them and will continue to do so.
