I subscribe to the 150d/l 20u/l. U/l speeds are fine, pretty much 24/7. Download speeds? lol... Normally during the daytime I'll get in the 120-150 speed. After 4:00? It drops down to 20-120. Zero consistency. Maintenance, et al.. have been at the home numerous times, replaced EVERYTHING from the pole, including the interior. Now, this was done 3 separate times in the span of 3 years. The result? Mediacom FINALLY admitted the fault was at their facility, and that they were looking into it. The last 6 months have been horrible. Promises after promises... resulting in lies after lies. Unfortunately my only other option is CenturyLink with their whopping 1.5d/l speeds. Yep... 1.5. Hence, technically Mediacom doesn't have a monopoly, but it's the next closest thing. If you have the option of ANY other company that suits your needs speed wise, don't walk, RUN to that company. I've never thought when moving, that I should look into internet providers, when considering where to live. Lesson learned. In the future, internet providers will weigh heavily on my decision on where to love. Update: 9/13/15. STILL terrible speeds during peak hours. At times I'm lucky to get 6 (yes SIX) d/l speeds. Time after time Mediacom admits that it's a utilization problem, yet they have done NOTHING to fix the problem. They state the problems have ONLY been on-going since November of 2014. I guess 10 months of terrible service is ok in their minds? UPDATE: 12/1/15. After ONE year of complaining, Mediacom FINALLY fixed the problem. Unfortunately Mediacom is the only internet provider in town (unless one wants 1.5d/l speeds from the other joke of providers, Century Link). UPDATE: 02/10/16 :knock on wood: Since fixing the problem, speeds have been good and pretty good on consistency. I'm hoping Docsis 3.1 will bring about even better speeds & consistency. UPDATE: 07/12/16: Things have been consistent since the fix. It seems Mediacom made local changes to bring the service up to date. I still won't recommend Mediacom if there is another provider able to give you the speeds you need, especially if FTTH, but things have been a lot better. Like most internet providers, your location determines quite a bit. D3.1 should bring more reliable service. member for 17.3 years, 1880 visits, last login: 173 days ago updated 7.7 years ago

I feel like I live in Bosnia given how many times my service has gone down. I have had to replace my modem at least 7 times in the last 10 years which is unacceptable. I have another service call tonight in which they will likely replace my modem and do nothing else. The service agent was nice enough to say that it is likely not a service issue but something else, yet the technicians that they have sent me have FAILED TO DETERMINE ROOT CAUSE. Often they do not look at any connection issues from their box to the house or other matters that maybe causing the issue. The service has been so unreliable that I had to purchase a hot spot from Verizon just to get data. I live in the greater Minneapolis area so its not like I live in the country. When talking to Diane, a Supervisor and asking for a credit on my account, they just provided me with at $3 credit even though I have to have a back up system. I have kept a log over the last 2 years on how many times the service has gone down which I think will be helpful to share with the FCC. More times than not I have to reboot my cable modem and then it comes up on line for about 2 hours before it goes down. I don't have the time to spend calling them every minute that it goes down which Diane has suggested. When asking for Diane's employee number to log my complaint she refused to provide me her last name (which I understand) or her employee number. All she would provide me with was her extension, x5731. member for 7.9 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 7.9 years ago
There are 2 types of Mediacom service... the one that works perfectly and the one that does not work at all. I am blessed to have a signal strength high enough at my house mine works perfectly. I hear people all the time complain about constant resets and when I help them out typically their signal is too week OR the temperature pushes their signal over the edge. Mine its right at 0 and 35 pretty much all the time, I get exactly what I paid for. I just re-connected service last week and the tech went above and beyond replacing every single end on every single cable, I was impressed. DirecTV had done the same 3 years ago but he did it too. TV does not seem to have as bad of compression as it did in the past, the artifacts are not nearly as bad. Now the bad... the price. I am perfectly content with 50mb service, but I have to buy 100mb because the cap is too darn low on the 50. 350gb for 50 and 1000gb for 100. This is drives me batty as I can't understand why they do this. (well except to make more $$$) If you are selling 50mb of pipe sell 50mb of pipe. I would have come back to Mediacom years ago for a $99/mo double play without lame promo rates. Guess I have a year before I get frustrated at the price and leave. member for 22.7 years, 3797 visits, last login: 3 years ago lodged 8 years ago
Unfortunately in my area there are no real options. For residential install was in two days but for business it was way out into the next month so I stayed residential. Getting the internet back up when there is an issue has been a major problem. The first time it took over a month with multiple service calls to finally get the issue resolved. Each time the tech blamed the previous one for messing up the wiring. This time I have had two come out and fail . Neither seemed interested in the symptoms and left quickly not allowing me to test it. Each time it was down 15 minutes later but dispach does not make them come back and finish the job. This time tech support has said all kinds of thing including blaming the server and core router. The individuals do not seem to be the problem but rather lack of communication on the issue and history. Over a year I have not been able to game because of chronic lag. Finally noticed the heat on the coaxial connector to the modem. Want to call but i have a funny feeling that no one will know what a ground loop is. At the moment I can discharge the line and get back on and it explains why we have killed two modems already. I wish I could say it tops Comcast but they at least got a specialist on my issue to solve the problem. But it tops AOL. member for 8 years, 2 visits, last login: 8 years ago lodged 8 years ago
So far every thing has been great. I paid for my own modem (SURFboard SB6190) and that was no problem. I have run thousands of speed tests and have never seen a dip in speed witch is really surprising. I really can't think of any bad thing to say. 150mbps 20mbps up and a 2TB cap. Worst company I've ever had to deal with. Horrible customer service. Bills change every month with additional charges. Download speeds are never where they should be. Tech support is clueless. Non flexible service hours. I could go on and on. If you have any other option at all take it. member for 8.4 years, 149 visits, last login: 7.4 years ago lodged 8 years ago
After the "help" I got from Mediacom support today -- both a field tech and over the phone -- Mediacom is lucky that they have a monopoly in my area. Neither the field tech nor phone tech understood the difference between a switch and a router, how enabling/disabling features on their modems works, or that when they make a change and something stops working it's probably because of what they did and not the fault of the customer or their equipment. I've had it now for almost 2 years. The advertised speed went from 5000/256 to 8000/512 but my download speed rarely exceeds 5500. I do like the increased upload speed. I have been annoyed with down times ranging from a few minutes to several hours but they have been getting rarer. Overall I have been happy with it. 12/26/2007 - My speed jumped to 6500-6800 which made me happy. I then switched my old 802.11b router with a Linksys WRT54G which allowed consistent 7500/490 speeds. 04/25/2008 - Been running into a lot of slow time. Download speed will drop to 500 - 1500 for a day or two and then jump back up to a normal 7500 - 7600. I was also sent an info pack saying since I have all 3 services (cable, internet, phone) I will get a free upgrade to 10000/1000 but I haven't seen any change yet. 6/27/2008 - Finally got upgraded to 10000/1000. Tested at 9365/945 so that's nice. I've been having a lot of slow time though when I'll be lucky to have 20% of that and it'll last for a couple of days. 7/17/2008 - Went an entire evening of no service but it seems that was due to repairs. Have been getting consistent 9300-9600kbps downloads. Even during high traffic times it doesn't drop below 7500kbps. and that is rare. My upload speeds are always 930-960kbps. 8/09/2008 - Mediacom seems to be testing Web-boost. Uploads are the same but have been getting 14000-18000kbps downloads. 10/18/2008 - Service seems to be either very fast (10,000-30,000kbps) or very slow (800-2500) with very slow being by far the most common. 11/15/2008 - Getting better with less slow times. 6/26/2009 - Modem went out so I had to call customer service. Surprise! I didn't have to wait forever, the automated troubleshooter was quick and easy and I got to talk to someone within 2 minutes when the automated troubleshooter couldn't figure out my problem. I had a service tech at my house by 11:00 the next morning and he switched modems for me. I'm happy (for now). 12/07/10 - Consistent 15MB/1.85MB speeds. Little down time.Looking good. 12/29/11 - Dropped their telephone service so price went up $10/mo. Speed dropped to 10MB/.85MB with 12MB being advertised. The automated telephone support has worked well for me and I'm able to talk to someone a lot faster when I need to. 08/06/13 - Consistent 20MB/1.75MB speeds. No issues really. It's been very reliable. 02/29/16 - Upgraded to Prime Plus last summer. Consistently faster than 50/6 promised. Fairly reliable. member for 22 years, 6301 visits, last login: 19 days ago updated 8.1 years ago
Have complete bundle of cable, internet and phone. Cable and phone are good for the money BUT Internet reliability and speed are terrible and and on a par with dial-up. And that is not saying much. The internet makes me a very unhappy camper.
