I have had consistent download speedtest at over the rated speed. If you have the VIP package they give you "Mediacom Online with Web Boost - the free automatic boost of speed for a faster web browsing experience".

Have not had any major outages for years.

    I would recommend this ISP.

I might switch at some point to get better video services via Sat. But would miss Mediacom's high speed data service.

    Speed Test for 10/1 service.

    My Other Reviews·Verizon Wireless B..
    Advertised speeds for my service:
    Download: 8000 Upload: 512

Fee for Service: Regular price is $45/mo
We are currently getting a 20% discount for 6 months on all services, so this puts the Internet at $36.76 /mo. (this includes modem) Yeah, I'll admit at times it seems slighly expensive, but then I remind myself it's way better than dial-up! Also, many times if you are a new subscriber, you will get the internet at the promotional rate for a certain period of time.
*For those people who have been a customer for several years and are tired of paying full price and feel that they should get some type of discounted rate similar to what new subscribers are paying, you can call and talk to Mediacom's retention department, and they may lower your fees to promotional rates for 6 months or so.. I know this because I have done it.

    Network Infrastructure:
    -Cable Modem: RCA *DCM305
-Router: Linksys 4 port Wireless G

    Computers on Network:
    -2 wired desktop computers
    -1 wireless laptop

    Experiences & Review of Service:
We have had Mediacom's High Speed Internet service since November 6, 2002.
As for the installation, the technicians that installed our service did encounter a minor problem during the installation, and they were about 2 hours late, due to the high-demand of their service at the time. Mediacom had just recently introduced their High Speed Internet Service in our area, and they were behind schedule on installations. One thing they did do was call to let us know that they were behind schedule, and gave us an approximate time as to when they would be arriving.
As for service, the entire time that we have subscribed to Mediacom's High Speed Internet, we rarely experience outages, and if we do it's just a brief outage, and its generally late night/early morning.

    Update
    Now 20/2
Still works great there some issue with the change over to the new IP block but that seem to be sorted out now

    Update
The node i was on has been split and speeds are finally better
seeing about 14.5Mbps down and 900Kbps up usable every near the max after over head

I'm on MAX 15/1 but normally only see 10/900Kbps which isnt bad
not bad almost as good as FiOS
wish speeds were a bit more stable but thats cable i guess
AT&T is a joke out here so Mediacom is really the only game in town

free IGN with MAX is nice

phone techs are next to useless
and had to pay a 150 for install of MAX when it was first offered that fee has now been removed

SMC modem/Router is worthless; doesn't support WAP2 and has a very small range
now using a Linksys modem and router

"not bad but could be better if more nodes were added"

I had the same issues with online max speeds. I first got it when it was offered as 10mb/1mb. Then for a long time after they upgraded to 15mb I was still only getting 10. They brought out two different SMC modems to try to correct it, and nothing changed. Finally they brought out a Netgear. The minute it was connected I was getting about 1800kb down and 125kb up. Apparently, the SMC modems cannot handle download speeds over 10mb.

If you have an older house, you may have problems with your modem. My internet goes out about every 15-20 minutes, and I have to unplug the Ethernet cable for a few seconds, plug it back in then I am back on.

I have had this service since @home and pay for the fastest high end package. I should be getting 18mbs dl speed but have been averaging only 6-8mbs often as low as 4mbs. Upload speed is good and consistent, Pause is averaging >800ms. Service call resulted in no call back after providing log of dl speed, jitter, pause, hops and QOS. Mediacom called 4 times on a Sunday night telling me I had to be home between 8am and noon. At noon I called them and they got the tech there by 12:30pm. Missed 6 hours of work for no result.

Qwest seems to actually be trying to be helpful. Their tech's were very helpful at my office location as I at first thought it was the dsl service causing the problem. Clearly it was not Qwest, but mediacom. I am switching all service to Qwest.

mediacom has grown up a lot over the last two years. their service has been marred by disputes with local channel 2 and the Big Ten Network degrading or not offering service of that network.

3 years ago it was commonplace to lose high speed connections or cable signal altogether. Since I've gone with their triple play, service has vastly improved.

I keep losing channels and finding them somewhere else and new channels appear without any notice. The new channels are nice but communication from Mediacom really sucks badly.

Their people are generally very nice and helpful, but the wait times on the phone are extremely long, usually over 30 minutes. The cost of their services appear to be raising with regularity and it is necessary to closely read your bill for unwarranted charges. Unwarranted or unnecessary charges frequently appear there.

A competitor is setting up shop near me, I will closely review their offering and will give them an opportunity to win my cable, internet, and phone services if they can say the right things about reliability and cost.

With Mediacom, I sometimes get over 10 Mb Down, 946 Up from Broadstar site in Miami ; 6,000 Kb download speed from netaccess in NJ. Get up to 6,000 KB Download from CA sites, usually about 3,700. (I'm in GA). 3X faster than the horrible company Knology! Steer clear of Knology!

Mediacom provides up to 4.5Mbps in my area and when it works, it screams. Ordering and installation was easy to set up. We do not have a contract and can cancel at any time. Mediacom rents you a cable modem, but I recommend you purchase your own, Mediacom will take the rental fee off of your bill.

The cable modem they provided was constantly failing. The installation tech recommended we purchase our own and return the one they provide.

It seems as though they are constantly "upgrading" and I'd say we experience downtime once a week. Downtime varies in length from a few minutes to a few days. If you call Mediacom to see what's going on, their tech is clueless as to what is going on.

If you subscribe to Mediacom's VoIP service, good luck. We had it for a few months and the service was either offline or if you could actually make/receive a call, conversations/words were dropped and choppy. I'd say the call quality is worse than a cell phone. I've heard others who used Vonage with Mediacom complain that Vonage worked, but Mediacom's service was down so often they could not receive/make any phone calls.

Unfortunately, we live in a rural area and have no other choices.
