**** Updated 07/08/09 ********* Circuit is lightly used, nothing new to report.
**** Updated 12/27/08 ********* There have been some occasional outages, not quite as reliable as I'd hoped it to be. Generally pleased with downloads. When uploading and the line is saturated, the ping time goes way up, ping graph in excess of 500 ms. This in turn slows down the download speeds as well.
**** Original Install June 22, 2008 ********* Ordered the 8/1 Ultra Plus Internet package with 5 static IP's
This is a business account, with no limits on hosting servers (I also use WOW for my home connection).
Installer ran new aerial cable, plus an additional 50' inside cable
Once modem was recognized, my salesman ordered the static IP's
Two days later, I was provided with the proper IP configuration and within moments I was online.
This circuit will likely replace our Business DSL static package since we are limited by distance from the RT to 3 meg x 512

I have had wow for about a year now and have had 2 outages that lasted more then a few minutes the whole time, the rest of the time has been farily smooth sailing.
Once in awhile I'll have some routing problems where I can get to some sites and not to others but its pretty rare, and as one who was booted from comcast for overuse I have not heard one peep from wow about using my bandwidth to its fullest.

Update 6/24/09
Had to cancel the service due to moving to a new apartment. We ended up ordering ATT Uverse Max 18 we'll see good it is only other option was Roadrunner.
The only other option that was available was ATT DSL, but we needed as much speed as we could get our hands on to with 4 people play online games and speed is everything. ATT was only offering their 6Mbps/768k for $45 we got the Xtreme 15Mbps down 1Mbps up for $67.99. When we first got the new 15Mbps tier our WRT54G router with DD-WRT firmware on it wouldn't send out the full 15Mbps so we had to buy a new router. After a month we added basic cable for a total of $79.99 a month, then we got a call 2 months later saying that we could get digital cable for the same price so we set up an appointment to have the cable box installed which was about 5 days after the phone call from them. Installation went very smooth and haven't had any problems with it since we got it, but the bill went up $5...oh well only 5 bucks having a tv guide makes up for that 5 dollars.

Update at bottom of page...
After between 5 & 6 years of Comcast we made the change to WOW. Comcast was never stable enough to go with TV and Internet service so we suffered through with just the Internet where we were getting Approx 30% performance of what they advertised.
Once again with WOW service after approx 1 week of service have not hit advertised performance once. Very disappointing but on the bright side there tech support did get in touch with me right away via email "as I requested" and not only offered to look over any results from software I was using but also gave me links to other sites / utilities.
Another odd thing is the DVR delivered for the Cable TV had obviously been used elsewhere as there were pre recorded shows sucking up 70% of the hardrive and no manual left with us. As with other Cable TV providers has some of the worst user interface out there. If anyone has seen the difference between Satellite and Cable as far as menu's etc. the difference is amazing!. But back to the Internet....I hope we can get this all worked out & up and running high speed consistantantly instead of only getting close once every other day or so...
UPDATE: I was reading some of the other post's and I just wanted to say that the phone service I received from WOW works just fine, Way better than the srvice "I received" from Comcast.
Also I would recommend to try some other Speed related utilities, I cant help but feel that some of the one's I have tried that have the Cable providers name on the same page may be slightly skewed if you know what I mean...

UPDATE:
Well we have been with WOW awhile now and the service has been solid, no outages or interruptions and the phone service is great.
Once again the speeds are never as advertised, We were just getting ready to try ATT Uverse till I asked the tech some questions prior to install.
They use your existing cable for the TV and run the Internet over the phone lines "HUH?" as you can tell i'm a little anal about my Internet speeds as I view allot of online video's and do alot of online gaming and I'm sorry but there's no way I can see the speeds advertised happening on a phone line and ATT's documentation even states they only guarantee the speeds "to your modem"
When they offer a ps3 integrated with a modem then maybe I'll try it.
I would still prefer satellite for my TV but at this point it's to pricey to have 2 separate services.

I switched to WideOpenWest in May of 2008 after nearly 10 years with Comcast and its predecessor companies.
There were two motivators for my switch: the first was the fact that my promotional pricing for Comcast's bundled services (telephone, cable TV, internet) was about to expire; the second was the fact that I'd heard nothing but good things about WOW's services.
In my area-- Arlington Heights, Illinois-- there is pretty serious competition for bundled services between Comcast, WOW, and AT&T (their telephone-DSL-Dish offering), and as a side-effect we're constantly bombarded with discounted offers for these services. WOW had a bundled services offering with prices that are guaranteed through January of 2010, so I decided to go for it.
The ordering process was actually a pleasure. The salesperson was very helpful and friendly, and answered every question I had. I went into the call with the requirement of 6 Mbit Internet, telephone, and basic digital cable TV. These services were not part of an existing package, but the salesperson was able to work a deal for me when I bought all three. Of course, she tried to upsell me on premium TV services, but when I declined she didn't push any further. (I like it when a salesperson takes "no" for an answer.)
After I agreed to the services and an installation date, I asked the salesperson when I should call Comcast to cancel. She suggested I wait until after the WOW service was installed, because Comcast has been known to disconnect services before the actual scheduled cancellation date. I heard this with a bit of skepticism, knowing that if I called to cancel I'd be routed to a Comcast Retention Specialist and WOW could lose the deal, but since I'd already made the decision to switch I figured there was no harm in waiting until WOW was installed.
The installation date came and the technician showed up at the expected time. He knew to go to the pole to switch the connection to the house (something the Comcast engineer neglected to do when they installed their services here-- check my Comcast review), and plugged in the cable/telephony modem (the same Arris model Comcast used) and the digital cable TV box. The data and telephone connections followed, and within 30 minutes I had all services in place and programmed. Perfect.
There was no software to install on my computer, which Comcast seems to insist upon. All I had to do was set up my WOW account online and I was up and running.
As I write this (June 2008) I've had the service for about a month, and I've only had one outage, when a thunderstorm came through and knocked out the cable. I called WOW customer service (using my cellphone, since I had no services in my house) and a telephone rep told me there was an outage in my area. My only complaint about this call was that, for some reason, the Customer Service person was very difficult to hear through background noise on her end. The service was reinstated about an hour later.
I will provide further updates as my experience with WOW progresses. So far, I am a very happy new customer.

Update, June 2009:
I've had WOW for a little over a year, and I'm still very pleased with their service.
There have been a few glitches over this time period, but nothing major. The data, cable, and voice services have all been rock-solid. When I've had a problem, I've been able to reach a real human being on their customer service line within 3-5 minutes.
The only serious issue I had was in the fall of 2008 when Sprint (WOW's backbone provider) and Cogent had a dispute and stopped communicating with each other. I was unable to reach several sites on the internet (including the University of Illinois), and when I contacted WOW they claimed to know nothing about any connectivity issues. After a little research I learned that several people had the same issue, and when I called WOW back the (different) customer service rep said he know about it and they were working on a resolution. Service was back in a couple days, but it was annoying.
In all, I'm still very happy with WOW and I plan on sticking with them for the time being.

This service has been great since the install date with 1 exception. The modem died. Wow was very efficient in replacing the modem and the service lives up to it's advertised speeds.
In the last few years I can't find any fault with the service. I did not opt for the 15/2 but kept the 15/1 and it has been flawless.

I currently have the fastest tier internet WOW offers 15/2. Although the download speeds have been correct since I ordered the upload speed has not been stable. I have tried Comcasts 16/2 speed but was not as satisfied with speedboost.
Just an update I have been using the 15/2 tier now for quite some time now but am eagerly awaiting the 50/10 service soon to be provided here by comcast. The day its available I'll have a tech out installing it. I hope wow will provide me an alternative.

Great service - no hiccups. Appreciated the punctuality and skill of the service tech. Did a great job - answered all my questions.
Called customer service once to get a 2nd drop pulled to a new tv. Tech was on time, again, and got it right first time. Even configured the tv for me!
