Been with Wow since they were owned by Americast. Service is becoming worse and worse over the years. Unexplained internet outages about once a week for varying periods. I called yesterday to report yet another outage. The announcement said to expect long delays due to Hurricane Ike. This storm was one month ago and as far as I know did not strike Michigan and Ohio. The company is clueless, seems to be short of money to expand services and is overselling its existing bandwidth. Stay away. I will be leaving as soon as UVerse is available.

Not sure why some folks have bad relationships with WOW but for me WOW has been great. I have WOW since 2003 had 2 outages one was due to a problem in there network which was fixed pretty fast and the second one was that after 3 years of being on 24/7 the modem finally died in which WOW came out the very next day to replace. The best part is I had a 4 meg conneciton which they upgraded to 8 meg and I still pay the same price. So if your in the West Suburbs of
Chicago look into getting WOW it works for me

Well, first things first. I have been a wow customer for over three years, and in that time I have had a generally good experience. I have both the cable with ondemand service, as well as the high speed internet package. (Formally 6/1 mb/s, now 15/2 mb/s).
In my time with them I have found their cable service to almost always be up, and the internet to be up about 99% of the time. I have jumped locations three times (and intend to do it yet again soon enough) and had one problem with installation. The first install was perfect, the second was also perfect. The third, not so much. The techs that came in apparently installed the service wrong, so my service had been degrading for months. It was hard to notice for a few months, but after 8 I was getting shoddy signals (.2 mb/s up and down from a 6 mb/s package!) and the signal went totally down after three days of these pathetic speeds.
Called WOW tech support, and was told to ipconfig. Over, and over. Eventually I told the workers to please just send a tech, I have been working in IT for about 7 years now, ranging from PC repair to network administration. These people were clearly working from a sheet of paper on their desks.
A tech came out, diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and gave me a $200 credit on my bill.
Since then I've had no problems. Recently WOW upgraded their service tiers, and so did I, to their 15/2 mb/s service. After literally a 2 minute form fill out online and a few seconds of my modem resetting, everything was golden.
In conclusion, WoW service is excellent for the most part. If you have a problem that you've diagnosed yourself, and absolutely know it's not your computer but their connection, make that very clear if you call tech support. They will try to convince you that it's your computer (they tried to get me to send my custom built PC to gateway!), or will run you through useless checks. The only people with any knowledge are their onsight techs, so ask for a on sight tech to take a visit if you know it isn't your PC!

I have been a WOW customer for 4 years or so. I recently moved. Before I moved I had few issues and except for long wait times to get a tech to roll on-site but normally issues were fixed within a few days to a week.
When I moved recently I wanted to keep my phone number and WOW could not do this for me so I decided to utilize a VOIP provider (PhonePower) which was able to keep my number. WOW customer service indicated that the transfer would happen quickly and I gave them 12 day advanced notice that I wanted to port out my number in order to transfer my services to the new location.......long story short it didn't happen and I had to get management involved at both companies to get it done.....if PhonePower hadn't have taken such an interest in providing good service, I probably would have been without phone for a week or so. From this I gather that if your problem is not on their script the CS agents don't have the authority or skill to help.....no thinking outside the box at WOW without a lot of work on the customers part......if I did not have knowledge of VOIP and manipulating customer service by moving up the chain...forget it.
The install was another story....the underground service cable for my address was cut and a new one had to be pulled...which was done promptly....there were initial signal issues with prevented me from seeing all channels and this was fixed over a couple days. My VOIP service was not working (very choppy sound) many dropped packets....we first though this was the new cables and chased that rabbit for a week or so. Once WOW verified everything was ok and I couldn't disagree with their prognosis, I still had packet drop and terrible VOIP service. WOW stated we don't support VOIP....only our own phone service(buyer beware). After a lot of complaining and finally getting local support crew management involved we finally were able to convince the IT dept that they had an issue....which they did own up to finally and repair (bad switch card)......once repaired I have had reliable service and have not had issues since.
The manager who helped work through this second problem did help me to get a service credit.....but no where near made up for the 40+ hours I spent working through this move scenario.
Bottom line is I have 15 years IT infrastructure experience which helped me identify the issues, but received a lot of resistance from WOW to get through the issue...no doubt the average user would have just switched over to a competitor. I was tempted to switch to AT&T but they don't have their U-Verse service in this area as of yet.
WOW does a pretty good job of maintaining their infrastructure so problems are very infrequent, but if you have a legitimate issue which is a little off the beaten path, WOW customer service is not prepared to deal with it....also I contacted the CEO's office twice and received no answer either time which leads me to believe the CEO does not care about their customers.
Their prices are creeping up also...
Cable channel lineup is pretty good but the DVR is a bit pricy.....and lacks some advanced features and disk space is too small....the channel lineup guide is horrible
TiVo would be so much better.
All in all WOW is probably the best value for the Chicagoland area where they are available.....but it is really sad the state of Cable/Internet/Phone in the Chicagoland area. I hope WOW will work on improving their customer service department and truly work towards solving customer issues with an outside the box mentality.....and keep their prices competitive.....that will help me stay a WOW customer for the long haul.
I currently have Digital basic cable with 6MB/512K service with WOW

Took a couple day to get the tech out to do the install. I am happy with the speed of the connection and it was only gone down once in the last few months and then only for a hour.

I have been with WOW for over 5 years now. In that time, I can't remember losing the connection in both my internet and cable tv area of the service. I get the advertised speed on my internet. When I lost my job a couple of years back, they even gave me a $20.00 a month credit for one year to help me.
Overall I am very pleased with the service I have received from WOW.

As noted above, its not comcast and thats a huge plus. If i was a HD owner I would most likely jump ship, lack of HD content & bottom of the barrel offering for internet speeds has turned me sour.

I've seen WOW be super awesome and terrible. Where I live (Westside Cleveland suburbs) it's the best option. It goes down maybe once a year and for maybe an hour or two. Cable TV is never down and we get alot of free music channels and phone sound quality is top notch. We had wow at my old work in Garfield Hts. and it couldn't hold a good connection for longer then 5 minutes there. Constantly going out, very slow, poor TV quality. It's hit or miss depending on your area. We pay around $75 a month for TV, Internet and Phone and couldn't be more pleased.

I have had them for about 4 years, before that i had Comcast
i switched because it was cheaper
When we first got WOW we had Basic Cable and a 500 Kb/s Connection
I had some problems with the service at the beginning but they where a new company in the area so i wasn't upset
it seemed one of the installation guys used a splitter to get internet connection off the TV coax cable instead of running 2 separate lines
WOW's customer service is great, a guy came out the next day and rewired everything.
WOW is also very generous and competitive, they sometimes offer speed increase for no or a little charge for being a loyal customer
one time i called to complain that my bill increased $12, WOW said they would take the $12 off for a year and that i could call again when its up to keep the bill the same
Overall i am very satisfied with WOW and currently have Digital Cable, Phone and a 6 mb/s internet connection from them

In a Comcast ruled area, WOW! really shows its colors.
WOW! has done everything right for me. From order to now, months later. There are rarely any dropouts.
I get Advanced Phone, 4Mbps Internet, and Digital Value. The speed I actually get is about 4.5Mbps. The cable is very reliable and so is the phone. Everything was set-up within an hour.
I definitely recommend WOW! to everyone and anyone I know. Comcast is just horrendous in this area. They constantly gave me dropouts on the internet and the WOW! technician told me it was because our in-line was split four time before it got to our computer.
I have also heard you get a few free HD Channels over Clear QAM but I'll update you guys in about a month when I get my new HDTV.
P.S. WOW! is a very competitive company. Make sure you tell them while you're signing up that you want a higher internet speed or you will stick with your current provider, or if you are already signed up threaten to switch until they up your speed or give you more channels. I promise, if you are still in your base package with what you signed up on, they will give you a discount.
