Wideopenwest is the best Cable isp ever. Service is great and they hardly have any downtimes. if they do have a problem or they gonna work on the network they announce it in a network status news post on there website or you can call them and they have a recording on there phone system.
Cheap prices too.
*UPDATE* Still going strong with WOW and still loving them. Use to have 2 Mbps but they bumped me up to 4Mbps internet when they got newer speeds. If they are in your area I would suggest checking them out.
****Update* April 4th, 2008**** I still have WOW Cable & Internet.
* Cable review - WOW still does not have NHL Network channel but they kept the NFL network channel we're all the football games are blacked out. They took away the Fox College Channels from digital subscribers and put them in sports package but kept the Big Ten Network on the Basic service instead of putting it in with the rest of the college channels in the sports package. WOW got ride of NHL Center Ice for the 2007-08 season and it looks like they do not have this years MLB extra innings also. It would be nice to have those back.
Got an HD Box 5 months ago (SA 8300 HDC.) The HD selection is decent but I would like to see more HD channels added (Versus HD, USA HD, Sci-fi HD, More Starz HD channels, WGN HD, NHL Network HD, TBS HD.) The On Demand needs HD channels and as well more content channels. The best way to describe WOWs On Demand is with a D+ grade.
* Internet review hardly any down times and speeds seem to be as advertised. Still on the 4Mbp but I would like to see the upload speed get faster. Its a pain uploading pictures that are over 1MB.
2 DVR boxes (1 HD & 1 Digital) Digital cable 4 Mbps internet for $110

I have called WOW 3 times to fix the slow and/or non-existent internet connection. I realize networks go down, but this is ridiculous. I previously had comcast and I think the internet went down 3 times in 2 years.
Update: This internet service that is shakier than an 80 year old with Alzheimer's is GONE this Friday. I cannot take the completely unreliable connection so it's back to Comcast even though I have issues with them, at least the internet stays on.
Update: This is why (in addition to the above) I am dropping them: 2.3m/591 Wide Open West I pay for 6 and this is what I consistently get.
Update: Now with comcast I get: 11.5m/1.1m
I will NEVER subscribe to WOW ever again.

As the title says, good thing you aren't a doctor because you would have killed a lot of people. Alzheimer's does not cause people to shake, that's Parkinson's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a form of dementia, causing memory lapses, inability to speak properly, confusion and loss of mental ability. As for your Comcast speeds, big deal, that's just PowerBoost fooling you. PowerBoost doubles your internet speeds for the first 20megabytes of the download, then slows back down to Comcast's standard 6Mbps/384Kbps. Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are not mutually exclusive Dr. Kildare
Regardless, WOW service blows. | |

After nightmares with Comcast, WOW was the only other option.
Comcast took 3 weeks to install/setup, yet they took less than 24 hours (guy was climbing the pole the next morning) to disconnect when I switched to WOW.
I have had WOW now since 2004 and could not be happier.
Everytime I have had to switch my cable modem out ( 2 power spikes and a bad motorola) they reprovision within minutes and customer service is extremely helpful.
I have the 6 Meg/1 Meg service.

I've been with WOW! for five (5) years this month. The cable outages can be barely counted on one hand. (Meaning=less than five!) The Internet connection has had some issues but they have always been resolved in a reasonable amount of time. Believe it or not, the management team is listed on their website and they DO respond when an e-mail is sent from a subscriber.
The Internet speeds are better than advertised. I pay for 6MB down and 500K up and get about 6.2MB down and 600+ up. I don't have telephony with them so I'm not able to comment on that aspect of their service. A couple of months ago I upgraded to digital cable and HDTV and the service is absolutely excellent.
Considering how expensive Comcast is in the Chicago area, and how LITTLE they care about their subscribers, WOW! is a true value that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling! Sure, I'd like to pay $30 for all of their services! But knowing that they are a smaller company that really works for the business makes me feel OK about paying their monthly bill. My recommendation: If you have a choice, go for WOW!

switched from dsl(netlink) to WOW mainly becaues of price($14/mo cheaper) and speed(1500/500). went live 4 days after sales call, could have had sooner but decided to have it done on my day off. installer showed up on time, and had me up and running in 20 min. installer would have hooked up to my router, but i told him i'd take care of that. download speeds running about 1870, upload about 470.
the only problem i am having is on my side, one computer gets the full speed. while the other two get much less, all computers have been tweaked, but problem still exists.
overall the install went great( i guess that depends on the installer) and speeds are what they stated. since they are a new player in the area i think they have to do things right.

After close to 8 Years with this service, I would still recommend them. I've upgraded to Ultra (6000/500) and have had only a few problems which have been corrected without loss of service for more that a few hours. If you are from the northern states, check your outside connections for tightness, if they are loose the the up/down speeds are affected.

01/23/2008 - Update Well I can say that when the service is up and running it is rock solid. For about the past six months I have run into the problem of connection dropping. I've had tech after tech out to fix the problem and still the problem persists.
If I can ever find the power cord to the modem I own (Suftboard 5200) I am going back to it. These Web Star modems suck.
07/05/2006 -- Update I'm back in WOW land agian and boy does it feel saweet. No complaints here.
04/16/04 --- Update Had to move to a different area and wouldn't ya know it, WOW isn't there, yet. Was forced to get CommyCast for a few weeks until I can get DSL hooked up. WOW has been talking to the local Township about moving up to this area but it might be a long time coming. I will have to wait.
I want to thank you all the PPL in the WOW forum and the WOW staff for being great. Hope to be back with ya'll soon.
11-15-03 --- Update WOW just upped our caps to 4Mbs/500Kbs for the Ultra Tier service at no extra cost. Only outage was due to the network maint being done to raise our service. No complaint here.
08-11-03 --- Update Haven't had any real issues to speak of since the last update. WOW has rolled out their Ultra Tier Service. 3Mbit/500Kbs. Works great. Haven't had an IP change in over 3 months. Only thing I wish that would come my way is FTTC or FTTH. That would be a plus. Keep going WOW you're doing great in my book.
05-26-03 --- Update on service WOW is still going strong. They have been doing upgrades to lines and service on a constant basis. My upload/download speeds have always been at or above their advertised limits. The only complaint I have is the amount of times my IP's have changed, 8 times in all. This doesn't include when I have changed equipment/MAC Addresses. That does seem a bit on the high side but it could be due to line upgrades and the adding of new DNS servers.
02-04-03 --- Update on service WOW has had some real growing pains but over all things have went quite well. Line has went dead on about 4 occasions for unknown reason. But when calling tech support they admit that the problem is at their end or above. They have worked hard to improved service and keep service running. ---- Called to have WOW installed on 6-18-02. Ordered the Advance Service 1500Mb/s down - 300Kb/s up with 3 IP for which one you can have as Static. I chose to have all Dynamic. Price is $34.95 if you are a HotBox Customer. I figured that if I was going to change cable internet providers why not change all the way and get digital cable too so I could get a lower price. Was told by sales that the tech would be here between 1pm and 6pm on 6-20-02.
The tech/installer showed up promptly at 1:00pm on the date specified. Between the time he knocked at the door and the time I signed the paperwork to complete the installation was about 45 minutes. Everything went very smooth. Only real complaint I had was that he couldn't setup the multiple IPs, that is up to the customer.
Had to call tech support 10min after the installer left to get the multi-IPs setup. Tech asked for the MAC addresses of the comptuers that would be on the network. When I informed her that one of the MAC addresses would be a router she said they were not supported but it would be treated as another computer and we continued as if the router wasn't there. Provisioning of the 2 extra IPs wasn't that smooth but in the end everything has worked great. From the time I called to the time I hung up was only 20 min. Time on hold was 5 min.
My thoughts on WideOpenWest.....I think they are a great company and genuinly care about their customers. After all we are the ones who make their pay checks.

I have been with WOW for 5 years and have no significant beefs with them. I would like to see a larger inbox and like everybody else, faster upload speeds. My latest sppd tests indicate I am getting 4.2 meg down and 405K up.
**UPDATE** Coming up on 7 years now and still love WOW. I have had virtually no downtime (except for the couple of days of the northeast power failure), and consistent speeds. I switched to Vonage for my phone in 2006 and it works flawlessly over my WOW connection. My complaint about the small inbox size was addressed in early 2007 with a bump to 100MB - not great, but acceptable. My only complaint is the price. I have Digital DVR service with 5MB Internet and am paying $99. I'd be happier if it was $10 less.
