"Reliability and Speed"

Order Process?= Smooth. I was told I had to go on auto payment from my bank account but that was not the case so there was some misinformation there.
Speed? = I am getting anywhere between 3.0 and 3.5mbs. I am not sure what im "provisioned" for but where I recieve the speeds I do, its a moot pt.
Home Equipment?= AMD Athlon 2.0ghz based machine with two 80gb maxtor hdd's, recently upgraded to radeon 9700 vid card, soundblaster live 5.1 soundcard and klipsch pro-media 5.1 speakers
Ip?= Dynamic Ip that never changes (Static or Persistant? You be the judge)
January 4th of 2002, I moved to a temporary apartment in between my previous home and my as yet unfinished home. February 1st was my install date (a busy time of year, no big deal). I was at work when the gentleman came to install it and when I got home, a Motorola SB4100 awaited me and provided me with excellent access to the net. The e-mail system was exceedingly easy to configure and there were no problems. The only time in the first 6 months of using it that I experienced ANY downtime was around 4 in the morning and for about 20 minutes while there was some sort of network maintenance going on. The only reason I knew about this was a friend happened to be online at that point and mentioned it.
Fast forward to September 2002 (construction went a little longer than planned) and I call to get an install date for my new service. It was a Monday. Thursday, the gentlemen came out and wired me for digital cable (which isn't so hot but I don't watch much TV) and my High Speed Internet. There was a small issue in transferring my previous e-mail account to the new install, but nothing that couldn't be solved in about 5 minutes. Again, excellent service.
About three weeks later, I added a Linksys Befsr41 cable/dsl router without a hitch and have been happily surfing with great speeds on 3 computers ever since.
In the second week of November, the service was down intermittently for about 28 hours while there were some cut ins going on. Having worked as a cable contractor in the past, I wasn't too worried and was busy with other things so this outage didn't affect me too personally.
All in all, I can't imagine a broadband provider being better at what they do. I realize I might be alone in this, but when I go to any of my computers and try to get online or send e-mail, I know that its going to work. That is important to note.
Reliability is the name of the game with Eastlink.

It doesn't scream, but with averages of about 420 kbps down & 720 kbps up it certainly beats the major competition (MPower) hands down for both speed & reliability.
Only one afternoon worth of downtime in the last 2 months, & that was province wide with the added bonus of an actual e-mail afterwards explaining the outage. (Tech support call line could have been better though... couldn't get through to HSI at all, but managed to get through the back door by calling the digital cable support line).
Full bundled package (if available in your area yet, if not check back as they are working to provide full service in new locals) is the way to go as far as price is concerned.
$99 CDN for basic digital cable (+ 3 regular cable hookups), High Speed Internet, & phone will probably knock off at least $30 from most folks' combined monthly bills. (My price of $89 CDN is for Digital cable + cable High Speed Internet (HSI), the phone isn't available here yet).
All in all, a pretty good provider with decent price & so far a good "downtime" record.

"looks good so far"

I tought my Telocity/DirectvDSL was fast, and I got even faster with Earthlink cable. Latency is down (i call latency the reolution time : way faster with earthlink than it ever was with Telocity). The installation was fast (5 days from order). Price seems right @ $41.95. The only problem is that I can't get my domain name to be assigned to my website hosted on the personnal webspace. That sucks. I have not tested reliability and speed variations thoroughly yet. The review will be updated accordingly.
Update (a little more than a year later). Yes it is about Earthlink Cable, not Estlink as as mentionned. The speed is now around 2.6 Mb dl and 330 ul. Works very well. Happy with the service.

I have been with Eastlink now for three years at three different addresses and I have been impressed especially with the speeds we have been receiving lately. For the last several weeks, I have been getting a consistent 3500/950 which is pretty amazing considering that the DSL provider in NS, MPowered recently capped their speeds at 1500 causing great outrage. It seems like Eastlink has done some major upgrades because everyone I have talked to lately is getting similar results.
Not only that, the Eastlink bundle is an absolutely amazing deal. For $99, ($61 US), you get high speed Internet, digital cable and local phone service with all calling features.
The only problems that I have had with Eastlink in the past is that there are sometimes long hold times (30 mins + at times) to get through to tech support. However, once you get through, most of the technicians are pretty helpful. Another thing is that Eastlink seems to cater to knowledgable computer users as well unlike many ISPs. Most ISPs write into their contracts that it violates the terms of use to use file sharing programs, etc. However, Eastlink has recently put up a page on their tech support area telling customers how to set up Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire, etc to work with the best results with their internet service.

I was really impressed to see that from an ISP.
If you live in Nova Scotia, I would highly recommend Eastlink, especially if their package deals are available in your area.

I've had Eastlink cable internet for about a year and in that time I've never had real problems. I've called tech support twice, once when I was changing computers and once when I changed my NIC card. Both times I didnt have to wait, and tech support had my cable modem set up in only a few minutes. I also get my telephone and cable from eastlink, and get the $99 bundle which gives you digital cable, internet, and local phone service with all the calling features. My speeds stay pretty constant, at about 5000/800, which is way better than my friends with MPowered DSL who now have a 1.5Mbit cap.

The $ amount is in US dollars. We actually pay $78.88 for a bundle which includes Cable TV(appr. 45 channels), telephone with all the features(15 in all), and high speed cable access. We save appr. $13.00 /mth by bundling and additional $190.00 /year by not using other separate service providers. It takes generally 5 days to get hooked up, theres a one time $28.72 hook up fee but no modem rental charge. They gave me a Motorola SB4100 modem. They claim 5Mbps down but I only get 2.8Mbps(I'm not complaining) and I get 800 Kbps up.Its a dynamic IP set through the DHCP protocol but its always the same. Eastlink is privately owned and operated by Bragg Communications Ltd. I get 5 Email addresses and 5MB of web space on their server for a web page. Their staff is always friendly and knowedgable when contacted. Overall I am extremely pleased with my ISP and would recommend it to anybody.

I've been with Eastlink for just over 2 years, been very happy with the connections.
The price is normal for a area of this size and lack of real competition Which is 45.94 monthly with HST total.
I'm on a Netgear Card I put in myself, when I was in the California with Mediaone. My firewall is a Zyxel ZyWALL 1 to get the riffraff out. Connection is dynamic IP but has only ever change once.
Ummm that's about all I have to say....except...and MEDIAONE is now AT&T Broad band, and they ROCKED!!! hehehehehe

"reverse dns is wrong, only 5 megs webspace, slow install time, high price per month, weird filters preventing p2p uploads"
"If you're looking for speed Eastlink's got it, good tech support? they've got that too. All in all, 9 out of 10."

I've been an Island Tel ADSL customer for 2 years and just recently an EastLink Cable customer for about 1 month.
I have the residential bundle package which comes with a digital cable box, and 4 normal 62 channel hookups, telephone with *all* the extra features and options and a blazing fast shared residental 5.124mbps on demand broadband cable modem connection. Of course I'll never see near 5mb/s in speed but the point is it's there and they're not stingy with their bandwidth. My connection peaks at 600kb/s and can maintain that speed throughout the whole download. My upload peeks at a blazing fast 120kb/s depending on where i'm send to. The only weird thing I find with EastLink is that they must have some weird filters installed or something beacuse I can't upload on a p2p application *such as kazaa or napster* which really is not a problem at all but it's still fishy. The total cost of my bundle package is 99 bones a month for the digital cable/telephone/internet which is really a nice deal. I've had 2 encounters with their tech support, one when ordering their service which I must say went along quite well with no complications at all. and my second encounter was when I bought a new Linksys router and EastLink didn't recongize my new MAC addy so I had to phone them and all I said was I just equiped a new linksys router and now i'm getting some funky eastlink error page. I never even had to tell them my name or anything, and he had me up and running in about 30 seconds without even me having to do or litterly say 1 thing on the phone. I really think they are running some top notch technolgy on the backend side of things at EastLink. Well, other then that all I can say is the price is only fair, kinda high, but worth it and is no higher then Island Tel ADSL here. 5 emails are really great to have. All in all, i'm happy the connection is fast, stable and the tech support is great.
Here's what I got from the install.
1 RealTek ethernet PCI adapter 1 Com21 1.5mb/s Cable Modem that stands on its side (kinda cool) and your basic wires and hookups
Oh btw, that was all free to, no rental charge however you do have to give the modem back if you end your service with them. No hookup charge eaither.
9 out of 10 overall 10 out of 10 for speed
My 2 cents.
