Excellent value for the money....Next to no down time at all Recomend to all...and no I DONT work for Eastlink.

It has been another year since my last post about Eastlink. In the past year I have only had 2 disruptions in service and they were miminal. Tech support is getting faster. Still nothing to complain on here. Keep up the good work guys and can't wait for that 20 mbps service that is coming soon.

    20 mbps?

Where did you hear about 20mbps? I was kinda wondering when they were going to bump up another 5. Wonder if they will keep the same price, I HOPE this time around they give us more upload, 1 mbps kind of sucks when you're uploading panoramic photos :S

That's what I heard last winter from 1 of their tech support guys but it may have fallen through as I haven't heard any more about it. Another meg of upload would be very nice.

I considered a phone line modem but I went with cable. Package is called Extreme 15 advertised at 56.96/mo. + 13 % tax, (Canadian). The order process went quite smoothly and I felt they really wanted my business. The technician arrived a bit late within the time period that they specified ( 5 hr. window ) and was knowledgeable and fairly efficient...90 minutes. Modem Motorola with internet pause/resume feature which I had not previously seen but like a lot. Its still early in the game so I will update if possible in a few months.

Update June 22, '09 The Eastlink `Extreme 15' package which I have been using for six months is running well. Connection reliability has been problem free. I have not needed tech support so I have nothing to report there, so high marks I guess. The company Home Page is there and works well, easy to navigate and I have shopped around on it and used TV listings but no other services. I use igoogle home page. The up and down speeds are listed and since this is not a heavily populated area the speeds on my ASUS P5KOL-CM with intel core2 duo are very adequate for a blogger/surfer such as myself. I`m not a gamer, so I`m no help there.

It`s worth it in the travel expenses I can skip, trips to the bank, Government offices and such, ordering parts from far away for repairs and warranty replacements and keeping in touch with my relatives and advertising in my job, and on and on. I have had one or two mysterious slowdowns, but was unable to diagnose these before they went away. Axell

I considered Aliant Highspeed but they can't touch Eastlink for speed. No compitition. I live in a rural area and never expected speed like I have with Eastlink.
The install was fast after ordering, just a couple of days.
They installed a Motorola SB5100 cable modem, and it works great.
May be better modems on the market " never checked" but I get great speeds so why bother.
No bad experiences. And the Helpdesk is fast and very helpful.

Oh yea. I see when I read my review there was a "Fair Warning" that only just joined this forum, which is true. But I have used Eastlink Cable Internet for since it was first avalible in my area through 5MG 10MG and now 15MG/s.

Amen to that! Some months I do a lot of downloading, others I hardly do a thing, it's nice to have an ISP that doesn't whine after one month of heavy usage.

    throttling

yeah there good that way , no monthly caps but they definitely need to stop throttling everything down to 5mbits cause its really pathetic, if i wanted 5mbits i would move from 15mbit package down to there 5mbit package which we all should do anyway since were throttled to death and please don't come on here with that tunneling bs and those http speedtests mean F**kall .It's pretty bad when people I know that are in europe & Asia get way better ftp speeds then I do from US/Canadian based 100mbit & 1gbit dedicated ftp sites that I'm pinging at under 60ms and less then 12 hops to them. All I can get max no matter how many ftp slots i open is 5mbits total and I'm on Eastlinks so called 15mbit line lol.Eastlink if you read this please a little less throttling of ftp , i understand throttling p2p but ftp? come on now.

Yet you're the only one with a throttling problem. Sure you're not an Aliant troll?

Give me a throttled FTP addy to test right now. Let's see if everyone is throttled, or just you.

    Re: throttling

dude wth are you talking about??,i'm no aliant troll . read the other threads for eastlink, they throttle pretty well everything , they have admitted this in newspapers and on the web here so before you shoot off your mouth do some research first. they throttle everything except for http which is there main priority with users and i'm not the only one with throttling problems, we all are and if you comeback here and say otherwise your either lieing(which you probably are) or your an eastlink troll yourself which is possible also. don't come on here and make dumbass comments before you do research. I know what i'm talking about as networking and pc's in general are my business as i own my own pc shop in Halifax so comeback when you get you facts straight next time

    Re: throttling

Give me an FTP link that is throttled for you. Come on - all protocols but HTTP are throttled, so finding a link will be no problem. Personally, when I setup a server, I get the full 1 Mb upload available - no throttling at all.

And as far as reading posts about throttling? 95% of them are yours, T, so we'll take that with the grain of salt it deserves.

Supply me with a link that's throttled for you.

What PC shop is that, btw? I'm near Halifax....

lmao no throttling??? eastlink has been throttling/capping ever since they took over Shaw's HSI nets

»/im/50373372/51557.png thats from »speedtest.eastlink.ca/ -- and i pay $65/month for this bs 15 mbit its a sad fact, but eastlink knows they dont really got any competition in HSI class... and i have posted on here about it many many times davebo_ its time to stop faking for your boss eastlink lmao or should i say kissing ass

maybe over in the wee island of pei they dont cap but here on the mainland they're the worst, at least aliant *although even more expensive admits the real 3mbit you get for $75-$80/mth* and where did you read about a 1mbit upload?? they only advertise cumulative bandwidth as 256k, 5mbit, 10mbit and now they same as the original 5 cept its called 15mbit... eastlink needs a good kick in the nuts and aliant needs to get dry dsl at least so you dont need stupid phones to get the net...

neonerd, theres no point in trying to explain to Davebo_, my guess is he works for eastlink otherwise he would know better. Davebo_ , theres more then just me that posts about this. The problem is that there isn't a lot of Eastlink customers on here and most people on Eastlink have no clue or even understand what and how there connections work so anyway also I just want to update on the throttling and it seems now they have eased up on it during the hours of 11:30pm-about noontime as my ftp speeds are full 15mbits during those times and between the other times there around 5mbits so it seems they are changing there throttling times.

    Re: throttling

Next time you see throttling on FTP - email me the address at ddavebo@gmail.com - maybe I'm blessed with an unthrottled internet connection

If Eastlink is throttling torrents, as you also claim, then please explain the linked map...

    »broadband.mpi-sws.mpg.de/transpa···results/

It's a crappy map, and no one is sure of their testing methods yet, but you're think there'd be at least one red dot in Eastern Canada. I see none - a test on my connection indicates no torrent throttling.

I honestly do not see any sort of Eastlink created throttling. I'm constantly on the lookout for that crap, too. Compared to what's going on with comcast, bell + alient, plus ISP cops forming everywhere - give credit where it's due - eastlink is a pretty decent isp, and if you think they're throttling, wait until they REALLY start....

Hey Eastlink - if you're listening I'd LOVE a job. Just make sure I don't need to take any urine tests....

I wish I worked for Eastlink - I'm actually out of work, and would (almost) kill for a decent job again.

I honestly do not see any throttling on MY connection. Sorry. I know about throttling, I know what to look for - I'm getting none of it. In the evenings, on some limited Usenet servers (only a couple of connections per) I will see some slowdowns. Never have I seen a hint of a slowdown EVER with FTP. Torrents are usually downloaded as fast as possible. Lot's off seeders, few leechers? Bang - nearly as fast as the connection will allow. Uploads with uTorrent? No problems there, either, I limit my upload to 60 KB/s during the day, then make that unlimited during the night. I ALWAYS max out my upload. Where's the throttling?

Not on the Island, either. So far your sleuthing skills are letting you down, champ. Tough to be limited, isn't it?

oh ya and neonerd, google cable modem signals

I've been with Eastlink for about 5 years now, and have had no problems even when moving.

I have my phone and internet with them. When I moved I only had to let them know when the move was happening and then were able to move my service that day. I didn't go a day without. This took place the last week of Aug. a very busy time to move in Halifax(big university town) they had a lot of moves and hookups to do.

I haven't had any real interruption. Anytime I've spoken with tech support it is a very quick call and all my questions are answered.

The equipment I have is a Motorola modem. Setup was very easy(They came and did it). I didn't have to pay for any of the equipment.

My speed tests in the past few weeks have averaged at least 14500/970!

Eastlink 15mbps is wayyyy better than Aliant's 1mbps which caps a lot of protocols. Installation was painless, the guy even ran a new cable from the pole to my modem just so I'd get the best possible speed. Motorola modem supplied - sufboard 5101. Torrents download over 700KB/s and can download up to 1.3MB/s. I can download from nvidia, microsoft and many other sites at nearly 2.5MB/s. Im serious when I say that. I just downloaded my graphics driver at 2.22MB/s.

    Eastlink rock!

I just switched back to Eastlink after using Aliant's so-called "High-Speed Ultra" service for about 4 years. Supposedly paying for 6mbit (which was downgraded to 5mbit) for the same price as Eastlink's 15mbit service I figured what the heck, why not switch.

The service I got was great, from the order to hookup, everything was done in a professional manner and both the phone and the internet works great. I'm able to pull down files from Microsoft.com's download center at around 2.8MB/sec in Internet Explorer which is insane, and downloading FEAR Combat Multiplayer (which is around 1.6GB I believe?) took about 20 minutes as I was downloading the torrent at over 900kb/s.
