I am about 18,00 cable feet from the local DSL node. Ycom Residential Starter Package of $44.95 claims upto 1mb download 256k upload this is Ywave's mid-service level. My DSL modem is reporting 1280/320, my speed really veries depending upon the test server and the time the test was ran, I think I avg about 1m/256k. When prepairing this review is was running 345/96, 1.2m/200, and 1m/210. Ywave claims that 95% to 98% of there service area has dsl access. I would recumend Ycom's DSL to any and all Ycom customers. These changes relect a recent system wide upgrade for the new Digital TV using Ycom's DSL network(2m/512k). My only complaint is now that I have had DSL for over 3 years. the modem is acting up and needs replacing. But all thing being equel it is all good.
Update 6.01.2006: Shortly after writing my last update I returned my modem for a new one. Ycom is now using the "SpeedTouch 5x6" DSL2 modem. After setting-up and going through the modem I have descover that Ycom is now providing DSL2 (MY modem is reports G.992.3 Annex A). I figure this is in response to the increased bandwidth needed to carry TV programing...
Equipment: SpeedTouch 5x6 4-port DSL 2 Modem with built-in router and firewall

"Ycom is a good company to have as your ISP in the Yelm area."

I have been on YCOM sine the year 2000 and I have had no real problems with there service. I live in the city of Yelm and I am about 5 blocks away from the servers. I will be moving to another house next month (still in the city limits) and hopefully I will have the same connection speeds that I currently have now, will see. As for there prices I am really not to happy about it for the speed I have in comparison to other companies, but for reliability I am 100% satisfied for it's always there with no down time. (with the exception of the occasional power outages and vandalism on the phone boxes along the road and upgrades to the equipment)
I average 600 mbps download speed and 160 mbps upload speed on there bronze package. (Wish they would fix the upload to equal the download or set there prices up according to the connection speed I have)
For there pre sale information I give them 90% Install Co-ordination - 80% Connection Reliability 90% Tech Support 70%, Services 90% and value for the money 30% - They can do better and they know it.
My ping time to various areas of the world as follows. Locally (within city limits to Seattle Washington) anywhere from 10 to 75 ms - The East Coast, Boston MA. I connect at 150 to 170 ms. The west coast, Los Angles CA about 120 to 150 ms. Now to Europe (London) Germany, Belgium, France, Turkey, Italy I get anywhere from 200 to 250 ms In Asia - Japan, China (Hong Kong) Taiwan etc about the same as mentioned 200 to 250 ms. Australia (the land down under) about 300 to 350 ms.
Now the ping time depends on a few factors. 1st your ping time to the server must be fast as possible (the lower the number the faster the time) minus the time it takes to send a packet to a server anywhere on the planet will equal the actual ping time it takes to send your data. F.Y.I. 1000 ms is 1 second of time, also remember all the other relay servers, computers, satellites etc that are being used along the way to send your data around the world. Mother nature has a way of disrupting service sometimes so keep that in mind. If you are having a problem it could be that something else either on your computer locally, or something has disrupted your data along it's path it has to take.
I could get more technical but, I won't. The bottom line - YCOM is a good company to have as your ISP in the Yelm area in Washington State. I recommend using YCOM Networks.

I've been running on YWave for 2 months now, and its overall been a bad experience. The connection is flat out down at least once a week, and takes anywhere from a few minutes to hours on end to come back up. Another good chunk of my time is wasted with atrocious packet loss (as of writing this, my ping times to broadbandreports.com is anywhere between 130ms to 800+ ms.) Fairly close to the CO, and I'm starting to look at other options.
Paying for the 1280/320 line, came with a VisionNet 200ES/R Ethernet ADSL Modem (which feels and looks like a flimsy peice of junk, and so far has acted like one), and the customer support has been subpar.

Just transferred my isp and upgraded to dsl with YWAVE in Yelm, WA. My home is 21000 feet from their equipment so they indicated service may not work. Had a problem with the volume on the phone, but they came out this morning and wired the phone through the dsl modem and then back into the house. Everything is working as it should. Took less than a week to accomplish.
