They have download caps and speed caps. Which they would never tell you upfront. I am going through the B.B.B right now to get out of my contract. I will go with there competition soon as this matter is resolved. Cableone is a joke when it comes to a isp. Be warned of there shatty practices. I email them and never a response! The install tech couldnt be any ruder. I insisted on a new drop from the pole and it basicly caused a fight between us. Way to make the customer happy cableone. In the evenings speed caps or not. Speed drops way down. And here I thought comcast was bad at my last place. Comcast is a saint compared to cableone. Speeds are as advertised until you download something to big. Then you will be capped at a 1/4 of the speed you pay for. member for 21.2 years, 1908 visits, last login: 6.1 years ago updated 15.9 years ago
Coming from Atlanta and now living in Mississippi, CableOne cable internet has been like taking a step back into the stone age. During peak busy hours, the internet is slowed down not on the local network, but on their extended network. They reply to all your tech support emails by saying, "We have found a problem and the engineers are working on it" with no visible fix. Unstable Internet.. however this is my only choice in Columbus MS member for 16.1 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 16.1 years ago
If you ever need to be locked down, brought to a crawl and stay that way for 12 hours a day, this is the service for you. They advertise "watch us make you smile". What they don't say is "we consider a frown upside down a smile, and you will be upside down as we dunk you in a water tank for using our service, PS we hate you." Good luck on getting in touch with a tech that can speak without a slur, or knows what is going on. "No outages in your area" means "you're f#cked until we fix something, but we don't know what it is, or when it will be fixed" Oh ya, it costs a bunch, the cable sucks and basically is a giant rip off. They make comcast look good in retrospect. member for 23.4 years, 6756 visits, last login: 3.8 years ago updated 16.1 years ago
Install was great, ordering was a breeze, waiting 20 days was not. The download/upload speeds were inconsistent, sometimes dropping for almost 10 minutes. This only happened about once a week, but still a problem that was never solved. The Channel lineup was bad, the picture quality varied wildly, and you never knew what volume the next channel would be. member for 16.1 years, 251 visits, last login: 3 years ago lodged 16.1 years ago
Since Hurricane Katrina affected the area, CableOne Internet service has been a nightmare. Spotty service, frequent outages, and slow repairs are the norm. On one service call, the tech told me my modem was bad and replaced it, only to have the problem continue. When Internet and television signal went out, phone support told me they would "put me on a list" and it would be five days before a repair tech would be sent. Aside from original thirty-day suspension of fees following storm, no adjustments for terrible service have been offered. Update - just ordered DSL. CableOne has worsened, not improved. member for 20.8 years, 1178 visits, last login: 12.1 years ago updated 16.2 years ago
paying for 3.0 mg download; receive 78k-3.1mg; avg 1.7mg. TV picture reminds me of the 60's with wavy lines. HD has some really nice pretty colored squares that show up blocking out those pesky images. On line intermitantly for last week. Tech out a couple of times but no change except for rewiring my panel, not reinstalling all cable ends, & some wall paint customization!! Guess he thought I might not want to hook something up in those rooms in the future!! Tech says can't make TV look any better & cable to your modem must be bad. Well I bypassed that cable several ways, still no connection. Removed one of their TV boxes from service to take it back & now I'm online! My guess is their cutting signal strength to support VOip that just started up here. member for 21.6 years, 86 visits, last login: 11 years ago lodged 16.3 years ago
I was a very happy CableOne / CableOne.Net customer until the creeps instituted band-width shaping. In Boise, Idaho, I suffered their attack in late Spring 2007. UNACCEPTABLE USE The rules seemed to change daily. I couldn't keep up with the changes on the "Acceptable Use Policy." I felt like I was attacked by a provincial old mother ... "Son, you have been on that internet too long." If anyone downloads more 500MB or uploads more than about 200MB, ZAP ... the download and upload speeds are dropped by 66%! At first they said they "measured" use between the hours of 12 noon and 12 midnight. Later they said, they measured all day. With this little change, I was only getting top speed for a few hours a day! Miserable. Fortunately I switched to Qwest DSL. They offered no band-width shaping / measuring -- and they offered more speed for less money. ALSO -- I received a couple of NASTY emails telling me my IP address had been reported to copyright infringement lawyers. SO -- Good-bye CableOne ... we don't need a mean mother watching everything we do on the internet. member for 16.4 years, driveby review (so far) updated 16.4 years ago
Currently on the 5mb/500kbs package at 60/month. I have been told that starting in October it will change to 8mb/???kbs at 63.5/month. Hopefully they increase the upload speed as well. The one HUGE problem I have is with the latency/ping times. They actually use to be fairly decent until about 3-4 months ago. When tracerouting a Chicago server, the packets will go to Denver, Dallas, and then back up to Chicago. Previous pings of around 45ms have gone to over 100ms. The frustrating part is when you call tech support and they fail to put you on the line with someone who knows what your talking about...they'll just tell you to power cycle your modem until your face turns blue. I know of a few other people who have called and gotten the same ordeal. I strongly encourage anyone in the Fargo, ND area with service to call and complain. The high latencies really put a damper on VoIP, video chat, virtual network connections, streaming media, and online gaming. member for 16.6 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 16.6 years ago
We've been CableONE customers for about 4 years now. When we lived in our Apt. the internet would go off for hours at a time, and the tech support was unable to figure out the problem. We would have a tech sent out to us but they could not find anything wrong. After formatting the computer and reinstalling everything, we were still unable to get a stable connection. Now, that we have moved into a house in a different town, we have had some bad experiences with them again. Downtimes, high ping and now with the caps being set in, it's like throwing away money. We are going to switch to Qwest DSL with their 7Mbps package to try them out. This company should be a "last resort." member for 16.6 years, 33 visits, last login: 16.2 years ago lodged 16.6 years ago
I live in an area where CableOne has a monopoly. There are no other cable service providers in the area, so CableOne does not feel the need to improve at all. I have had issues with CableOne in the past, but recently it's been getting worse. I've been having outages on a DAILY BASIS. We do not pay $50 per month for internet service that's down about half the time. member for 16.7 years, 1 visits, last login: 16.7 years ago lodged 16.7 years ago |
