I've had CableONE TV and internet service for about 6 months now. I ordered the basic TV and the highest internet speed possible for residential users which is 800k/200k for $50.. $5 for the modem rental.. You also get dynamic IP's which I dont like but can deal with. Everyday I'm plagued by disconnects, huge amounts of packetloss, and ping times reaching 1 full second, 1000ms+ at times. Its not always like that.. just a couple times a day, everyday. The tech people are morons.. powercycle modem is their solution to everything and its always yours or your computers fault. CableONE is perfect in their eyes. They even told me that my 50ms ping average to my first hop on trace routes, that isnt too far away, is excellent and that anything at or under 3% packetloss per hop was perfect. I'm not an idiot.. I've had DSL and another cable provider before and packetloss was only as issue a couple times a month if that. Ping times were on the average of 4ms on my first hop. Yet always my connection is fine and so forth. I'm switching to BellSouth DSL as soon as I can afford it. I'm tired of screwing with these guys.

This connection isnt good for anything.. surfing is slow when the cable is bad.. gaming is impossible because you never know when the connection is gonna go bad. Same for downloading and every other thing possible. Email is about the only good thing about them.. its never messed up unless my connection is messed up and cant view the page/download to Outlook express.

Bottom line.. if you have another choice.. you're better off going with them even if its more expensive. CableONE sucks royaly.

Advertized 400/128. When I've checked I am normally getting about the download and near the upload. Cost is $35-40 a month. I paid to have the modem installed when I bought it so that was painless. Dynamic IP AFAIK.

It took them about 5 trips out to my apartment to get it working consistantly. Then after I got digital cable it took them 3 more trips to get them to play nice together. Turns out they had the signal strength or something reversed, so at least 2 techs told me they would have to replace the line from my apartment to the main box in the building.

The last tech took about a hour and a half to fix everything. He replace the splitter, which was put on by the first or second tech to come set up the internet. then corrected the signal strength so the Cable channels and the internet were traveling on the right bands. It's worked great ever since.

Every couple months it seams like the whole system in the area goes down for internet service. Every time I have called to ask they had a message played before you got a tech saying that there was a problem which is really nice.

    My Other Reviews·CableOne
Started service at 400k ($35)and switched after the two week free trial to 800k.($49) with my own Motorola SB4200 modem.
Initial sporadic and slow speeds (low 500k- high 600k) fixed after tech support recommended this sight for help in changing my RWIN settings. Now tests out at high 700k consistantly.
I have three computers sharing the same connection thru a Linksys BEFSR41 Etherfast Cable/DSL router. (Also recommended by tech support for networking applications)
All three run seamlessly with no degradation in speed or reliability.
Have had it installed for over 2 months now and have never experienced loss of service.
Typical wait for tech support is about one to three minutes and have mostly good results from them.
I typically run it from 6 am thru to 11 pm every day.
I was previously a 7year MSN fan waiting for DSL that never came into our area and boy am I glad.

I ordered 800 down /200 up. Went by the office to pick up my cablemodem, which I decided to lease for 5.00/month. Brought it home, hooked it up and nothing. Called tech support and within less than 5 minutes had me up and running.

They use a dynamic IP and simply click on your browser which takes you to their page, you input your information and you are off and running!

One of the easiest experiences I have ever had online.

Cable One's internet service in the Idaho Falls, Idaho area is absolutely atrocious. There have been major unannounced service outages multiple times in the last few weeks. Ping times for games are often well over 300 ms. During the past week or so, there have been long periods during which download times barely eclipsed 70kbps. Moreover, there are intermitent and completely unpredictable outages of service. This means that downloading large files is often interrupted, ones online games are disconnected, streaming online content disconnects or is interrupted.

In short, Cable One is good for none of the things for which broadband is touted. That is to say, it is NOT always on. It is NOT fast. It can't reliably stream video and music. It can't support serious online gaming.\

It's terrible. If you have another choice, please avoid Cable One.

[P.S. I'm not the problem. I have extensive computing and networking experience. I've never seen a cable ISP that's this bad.]

I have had cable one for 2 months now. The speed is good I always get the 400k. The only problem is that I have intermittent outages that can last up to a couple hours a day. The value is decent for Idaho. Tech support is decent as long as you don't have a mac. Static ips not available at a reasonable price.

Took almost forever to get installed and working.

Picked up self-install kit w/Motorola SB 4100 at cable place around late November 2001. Every thing connected in a snap to my network. Powered the modem up and waited, and waited, etc.... Call to tech support idiots was of little substance other than "unplug modem, plug in modem" Finally had to pester for week and a half to get techs out to my place. I had already checked out connections for splitters and such on inside of house. Finally started to work great after the tech fixed a doo-dad on the pole and all was good on my (then) 512/128 plan. The speed began to drop slowly and steadily for the next few weeks as more "Gnutellites" began to use the system.

About two months into the service I was about to cancel for a series of pitiful speed tests (41/27 kbps for a 512/128 line) in which my dial-up was faster and also several long outages. CableOne soon went through an upgrade and also upped the speed to 800/200 for my plan. Speed is now great and not a problem and no outages to boot (as of 5/6/02). Consistent and stable service since the upgrade.

This is the only way for most folks in Possum Town to get broadband, as the reported Bellsouth CO is up by CAFB and far from most in the city (I don't even know if DSL is available there or not, Bellsouth will not tell a straight answer).

    Other Stuff:

Service plays quite nicely with my IPCop router/firewall box. IPCop also has Squid built in to you can run a software cache engine to speed frequently accessed pages up. No Static IP but you can use dhs.org to get around that in a way. 800/200 plan is $49.99 + $5 for modem per month.

I have had the service now for about 2 months and all has been very well. I constantly check that the donload speeds and ping times are stay constant and they deffinatly are. The installation was nothing really, pick up modem, plug it all in, when you try to go to a web page it sends you to their reg. server and you answer a few questions and off ya go. I do wish they would come up off the price or give you a little more down speed than 800k though:)

CABLEONE.NET: Since October of 2001 cableone has been over loading their nodes. Frome Oct. to Feb. of 2002 download speeds were only 64kpbs on the average and this was for the 400kpbs and the 800kpbs service that they offer.

I was paying them full price for the 400kpbs basic service all these months and i feel like i was ripped off. they up graded with 2 or 4 T1s in Feb. 2002 and still I get over 10% down load speed loss and over 10% upspeed loss.
