They have download caps and speed caps. Which they would never tell you upfront. I am going through the B.B.B right now to get out of my contract. I will go with there competition soon as this matter is resolved. Cableone is a joke when it comes to a isp. Be warned of there shatty practices. I email them and never a response! The install tech couldnt be any ruder. I insisted on a new drop from the pole and it basicly caused a fight between us. Way to make the customer happy cableone. In the evenings speed caps or not. Speed drops way down. And here I thought comcast was bad at my last place. Comcast is a saint compared to cableone. Speeds are as advertised until you download something to big. Then you will be capped at a 1/4 of the speed you pay for.

Best of all every member of the family can be on at same time. Have nothing but praise for it in the 4 years i been with them. I highly recommend them to all my friends and family.

Coming from Atlanta and now living in Mississippi, CableOne cable internet has been like taking a step back into the stone age. During peak busy hours, the internet is slowed down not on the local network, but on their extended network. They reply to all your tech support emails by saying, "We have found a problem and the engineers are working on it" with no visible fix.

Unstable Internet.. however this is my only choice in Columbus MS

    that sux

WOW that really sux. But here in the Brookhaven area I've had no issues with lag or latency day or night. No outages other than one or two that was related to some bad thunderstorms that hammered the area for a couple of hours. The service was back up within 30 minutes of the storms passing. Lost internet and phone but tv kept on working.

Just out there and the service is bad as compared to metro areas. The upload at 300 kbps is a joke. In the afternoon when kids are home from school you can hardly get 100 kbps upstream. I have a slingbox there and the bandwidth is not even enough to make that work at times. They need to take a giant leap into the 90's.

With ATT naked DSL available there, it is something to look at but maybe no better.

    Hmmm....

No need to take a swipe at "Mississippi" because of your isolated experience. I have Cable One and the speeds are as advertised.

If you ever need to be locked down, brought to a crawl and stay that way for 12 hours a day, this is the service for you. They advertise "watch us make you smile". What they don't say is "we consider a frown upside down a smile, and you will be upside down as we dunk you in a water tank for using our service, PS we hate you."

Good luck on getting in touch with a tech that can speak without a slur, or knows what is going on. "No outages in your area" means "you're f#cked until we fix something, but we don't know what it is, or when it will be fixed"

Oh ya, it costs a bunch, the cable sucks and basically is a giant rip off. They make comcast look good in retrospect.

    Hm...

The $70 plan has a bandwidth consumption of 3 gigs in a 12 hour period. Which is monitered from 12pm-12am. If the company did NOT use this feature, they would lose more money from your Bandwidth useage, then the bills your paying.

3 gigs..i'd consider cutting your pron consumption down, and stop crying.

You gotta be kidding, the caps are not very user friendly. Let's say its Microsoft Patch Tuesday and you have a couple of computers at the house. Then lets upload a couple pictures to MySpace or Facebook or your picture making retailer of choice. You've pretty much hit the cap in about half an hour. I can come up with various everyday scenarios that the modest homeowner can hit that cap in no time at all.

    My Other Reviews·Skype
Install was great, ordering was a breeze, waiting 20 days was not. The download/upload speeds were inconsistent, sometimes dropping for almost 10 minutes. This only happened about once a week, but still a problem that was never solved.

The Channel lineup was bad, the picture quality varied wildly, and you never knew what volume the next channel would be.

Dont have any other options but couldnt really complain about internet service.
Billing, and local phone support are a bunch of idiots. Drool out of corner of mouth type.
Tried phone service for 1 week and got an outragious bill. $29.95 turned into $48.
You are required to use their phone/internet modem. No other choice for $6.00 month
Cancelled phone and cable tv after going round and round with everyone but God,but still have internet with my modem for $53 for 5 meg.

When they are good. They are very, very gooooood.
When they are bad, they are very, very baaaadddd.

Now using Direct TV Dish for TV and find it superior so far.

Since Hurricane Katrina affected the area, CableOne Internet service has been a nightmare. Spotty service, frequent outages, and slow repairs are the norm. On one service call, the tech told me my modem was bad and replaced it, only to have the problem continue. When Internet and television signal went out, phone support told me they would "put me on a list" and it would be five days before a repair tech would be sent.

Aside from original thirty-day suspension of fees following storm, no adjustments for terrible service have been offered.

Update - just ordered DSL. CableOne has worsened, not improved.

DSL above 5mbit is very rare in the Treasure Valley. I bought new cableone.net account 5mbit/500k for $30/mo (for a relative), yet I've been a customer with them for 8 years (I was one of the first in the valley) and I pay $60/mo for the same service. They need to honor valued customers and either give the same price, or double my bandwidth for what I am paying.

Overall I give cableone two thumbs up, but they need to be offering the 10mbit+ packages for people at reasonable prices. I wouldn't care if they throttled P2P file sharing stuff, I rarely use that - But I want QoS shapped connections for Skype, online gaming, etc.

Also, in the spirit of good online game performance I've watched my ping to 2 national hosts, and ping to my local gateway. In the last 5 years they've gone down an average of 10ms. This is a good sign. I hope all ISPs work hard to identify routers and hardware that cause additional latency issues in the hops and upgrade!

I don't use cableone.net's VoIP phone service. $30/mo is simply not worth the switch. $15/mo and I'll take notice.

    You do know..

They aren't just blocking P2P network. Regardless of what you download, if you reach the threshold, you will be capped.
