Had to have Cable One come out to move the drop from pole feeding to middle of house to pole that would feed the corner of the house. They installed a new box outside to make future drop replacements easier. They dropped off a 1000 feet of coax so I could rewire the whole house 2 living room outlets. 2 bedrooms each with 1 outlet. Guest bedroom with 2 outlets. 2 outlet for the garage. One for the modem. Came in next day and put ends on all the cables hooked up to new splitter, tested signal and working great. Best part all free no cost.

Only gripe I have is wish they would drop the data limit on the 50Mb plan and then I would jump to that in a heart beat. Tell then I am sticking with my old grandfather package of 10Mb down and 1Mb upload.

I live in Sioux City, Iowa and Cable One is the best out there for the price. Very reliable service fast connection 10Mb download 1Mb upload and works great with my home network. Best of all every member of the family can be on at same time. Have nothing but praise for it in the years i been with them. I highly recommend them to all my friends and family.

I ended up with a bundle package of Phone, Internet, and TV and all I had to pay up front was $130 and I think the monthly cost after was somewhere around $97 in that range.

This included Digital TV with channels like NFL Network and movie channels. 50 MBPS speedy internet which has been pretty stable and fast, has 2 MBPS upload.
Telephone service which works just fine.

Cant beat it for under $100, even if this service was for $150 I think it still be worth it.

I dont know any downsides to it right now unless its the 100 or 150 GB limit per month which is alot of data, but I cant complain too much seeing as additional data past that is only 50 cents per gig. With Hughesnet the older ISP I had was limited to 250 MB a day with options of pouring out $3 for extra 250 MBs within a day, and the cost of that service alone nearly matches Cableones package of TV, Internet, and Phone.

I say go for it.

50G service

Your 50MB service is only temporary. After your contract you will go to a 5MB service and be stuck. There is no more 10MB service anymore unless you are grandfathered into it.
Don't fall for their 50MB service sale unless you READ THE FINE PRINT!

Re: 50G service

You can always upgrade to the 50 meg business tier. You won't be bounded by a contract but you'll be paying $70 per month.. but they're *unofficially* not enforcing caps on the business plans at this time.

That's what I'd do since I don't watch much TV and I've already got Vonage.

No more contracts for Residentials

Just to clarify an old post here, CableOne does not have the 50MB contract anymore.

They do have bundle plans which tend to be cheaper or have internet only for either 50GB or 100GB data quotas. .50c per GB after that with the maximum of $50 max limit(100GB) charged.

You can also go to the business plan as mentioned, but that is on a contract.

Been with them for years. Took them a while to get DOCSIS 3 going however eventually did late spring of 2011. Have had a few ISP outages and presume not more then others ISPs due to technical difficulties. Great ISP here in Idaho.

Just went from 50Gb cap limitation to 100Gb cap limitation for free. I was going over the 50Gb cap each month due to a new roommate addition to the house hold. Asked them about the cap sizes an said, we can up grade you no problem. I asked how much? Free they said. Done deal.

CableOne has been great service for me. Works great for general internet and gaming, specially with a Motorola SB 6 series modem I have. Great service.

My Other Reviews

·AT&T U-Verse
·AT&T Southeast
Got fed up with BellSouth prices and incompetent tech support. Never got my 6 meg service right.

I seen several adds for CableOne internet and phone service, I talked with several people who had internet and later added the phone service and they had nothing but good things to say about the service. So I decided to bite the bullet and try the service.

The local office was great handling the switch over, I decided to change my number to one of the CO phone numbers and I love the service. Phone call quality is superior to BellSouth's by a mile. And all the horror stories I've heard about cable internet lag and slow down during peak hours have been just that stories. I've had no lag and no slow downs at all. I have the 5 meg down and the 500 up and I stay above those numbers all the time.

The install process was as painless as could be. The techs were great and new their stuff. I now live about 400 yards off the main road and they had to run a new service drop to me from the main road. The original drop was to small to carry all three services.

I have the Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem. The only complaint is that I can't "see" the modem stats unlike the modems from BellSouth. But I guess thats the only complaint I have with that.

Overall the only complaint I have is their channel lineup. It is not nearly as good as Directv or dishnetwork. I am gonna make the swap back to one of them in the near future.

Other than that I have no complaints and would recommend them to anyone here in the Brookhaven area if you can get them. As I said before phone call quality is much much much better than BellSouth.

UPDATE: 12/27/08

Well I guess its about time to update my review of Cable One and its services that I have in my home.

I have since dropped the phone service and use my cellphone for my all my phone calls. It is not because of the service I was receiving from Cable One, it is because OI am now back to working offshore and I am not at home enough to warrant having and paying for home phone service. The phone service was fantastic and I did not have any issues with the service or the price I was paying at the time.

I have continued to use their cable TV and internet service. I have not complaints whatever with the internet service. I no longer do a whole of downloading so the caps do not bother me. I do on occasion go over and get capped but its not a big deal. No drops or interruptions in service, and yes I check my logs when I am home.

My only complaint with the tv service portion is that I wished they carried more children s programming such as directv and dishnetwork does. But my child is getting older so I guess in a couple of yrs it will really be a moot point anyway.

So overall I am very well satisfied with the service I get from Cable One and would reccomend them to anyone.

Update: 2/28/09

Well I moved recently and kept my service with CableOne. My only complaint at this time is the coordination between me and the service dept. It took them several days to come out and run the necessary outlets for me. They promised between 1 and 5 pm but showed up around 6:30 that night. The lead tech Pat done a fantastic job but his helper half-assed his portion and they had to come back out and fix the stuff he done. Again at this point I as satisfied with the service and would recommend it to anyone.

Coming From a area where there was only a slow DSL (1.5 Mbps) for a higher price, I think this is great. Install was fast, and I have actually ran consistently over my advertised speed. Only downside is the Fair Access Policy, but I have never even gotten to 1/2 of the threshold yet. Overall, a great buy.

Update: I just upgraded to the premium package and it is consistently faster that those advertised speeds as well. I am very impressed with this ISP!

I had AT&T since 2002 but finally gave up on them after catching them throttling my service from 6 mb service to 3 mb then below 1 mb. Every time I came home from my job being out of state I would have to call them about slow service because of the speed issues and then my 6 mb service started going below 1 meg they then sent out a service tech and he said it was because of the main office profile was changed and they were restricting the service from there. He made some phone calls and told them they should have caught that before he came on the service call and told they the dslam box was on my property, and told me I had fiber to that hub, and not to put me on a noise profile. Since AT&T took over Bellsouth my pings had gone from 90 ms to 42 ms then after AT&T the pings were 130+ ms. That was the last straw and I ordered CableOne 10/1 mb plan and they had only one issue that affected the whole network but thats been fixed months ago. DSL is looking like dead tech and AT&T will never invest in Fiber to the home.

P.S. never complain to AT&T management like this guy did in one polite e-mail after asking for a early upgrade. »www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/atan···a-cease/

My speed tested: »www.speedtest.net/result/837158236.png

I now have the 50mb service everything looks good less than 24 hrs local office had the new speed activated for me. CableOne insisted that I sign a contract for the 50mb service for 1 year at $45 after one year price will go back to $53

5/17/2011:
One weekend is all that it took for Cable ONE to send out an email to its employees stating that all customers who are under existing contracts can cancel the existing contract and sign new one for the new TriplePlay/DoublePlay/SinglePlay that includes the 50Mbps ISP service. I was really only wanting to -add- the 50Mbps service to my folks' plan, but this was an unexpected bonus since this will save my folks some money while they enjoy an improved set of services. Kudos to you for this one, Cable ONE. I definitely feel much better about how things have turned out here.

5/13/2011:

This update is more one in response to recent mishandling by Cable ONE's Corporate call center. I'm knocking down my overall opinion of the company because of how they handled an inquiry by myself on my parents' behalf. I am appalled by how I was treated and cannot be supportive of a company that uses its contracts to punish its customers for wanting to switch their service levels while under contract.

See »UPDATED: Under An Old Contract with CO and want 50Mbps? for more information.

-----------------------------------------------------------

4/11/2011:

50Mbps/2Mbps service is now available in Fargo, ND and it is simply awesome! No more throttling on this plan. Instead, CableOne has implemented a "Data Plan" (much like you'd find with a smartphone on any current cellular provider). The Data Plan is currently set to a limit of 50GB/month. If you download more than this amount, you are charged at a rate of $0.50/GB. I'm not a fan of this idea, but it's still an improvement over the original "cut your speed in half after you hit a certain threshold every day" plans. I can report back on the "damage done" to my monthly costs after I've had this for a month or two.

In the meantime, it's simply awesome to have a more modern ISP service to use!

-----------------------------------------------------------

1/11/2011:

Nothing new to really report here other than my services have been online non-stop since I signed up a couple of months ago. I'm still quite happy with the service, as it is and am looking forward to if/when the DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades are finally completed!

-----------------------------------------------------------

Original Review:

About 2 years ago, I signed up for a business ISP connection from CableOne. That was not a good experience because of a lot of misinformation coming from the local CableOne office. I'd signed up for a specific tier with the understanding that by paying for a business line, I wouldn't be subject to throttling (measurement periods that result in bandwidth reduction after a specified download amount has been exceeded). I hit that limit and was throttled the very first day -- I was admittedly trying to hit the supposed limit to see who was right and who was wrong (local vs corporate). Local management lost and I moved over to Qwest as a result.

Here we are a couple years later and Netflix is booming! I found that with Qwest's 7Mbps DSL service, I couldn't count on a continuous 5Mbps download speed to maintain an HD streaming signal. As a result, I looked back at CableOne's offering and found that they offer a 12Mbps/1.5Mbps service which, if the threshold is hit, will cause the speeds to be cut to 6Mbps/750Kbps -- not too far off from the 7Mbps/796Kbps service that I had with Qwest. The 12Mbps/1.5Mbps service has a daily threshold of approximately 11GB. I haven't hit it yet, thankfully.

Ping times have been pretty solid, the connection has been reliable and Netflix has been running quite well since the switch. It's hard for me to believe it, but I am here to recommend CableOne service to anyone who goes into it with their eyes wide open (meaning: Do your homework and consider how much you'll use the service before you sign up for an "affordable" plan.) Is CableOne the best-ever ISP - Nah. Are they the best that I can get in my area - yep.

In short: I have been pleasantly surprised by the service that I've received this time around. Well done, CableONE. Now finish up that DOCSIS 3.0 rollout and bump the tiers around some more, eh?

the wait for the install killed me but i had to wait. the installer had a limited knowage of the way the internet worked, about four weeks into the service my modem craped out, i called it in and told them when they sent the service tech out he should bring a modem with him.well when he showed up i asked him if he brought a modem he hadn't. so after about an hour of line checks and a few trips in and out of the house he told me he had to go back to the office and get a modem (dang didnt i tell em to bring 1) he returned and all has been well since. oh did i mention im a half hour away from the office haha!

Yeah DOCSIS 3 now Today I checked my modem stats and found that we are now DOCSIS 3 see the attachment. I hope for better speeds soon!! When it happens I will update this post. I am currently on the 10MB/1MB package with digital tv with dvr.

I have owned my own modems for years, only rented theirs for about 6 months at the beginning of the contract which has since expired like 4 years ago.I switched my modem about 6 months ago to get ready for DOCSIS 3 I am using a Motorola 6120. While I was concerned about the high power on the upload side at first by all the techs for them say it is fine and that this modem will show higher readings than the 5120. I haven't had any issues with it.

Wow...

I can't believe you haven't had any trouble with those stats. I seriously hope they're far from accurate because ALL of them are out of spec for any cable modem setup; D3 is even more sensitive to weaker signals/noise.

Most modems eventually start to disconnect lower than -15 db and any SNR below 35 will possibly inhibit some packet loss , and if it's below 30, you'll no doubt have packet loss no matter what unless you don't download much anything.

Upstream is out of spec too. Most modems can't 'shout' higher than 55 dbmv; good upstream levels are in the 40's; you'll generally want to stay below 50. That motorola modem is struggling to keep your connection up and running; might not last long with that upstream power either.

The total correctable/uncorrectable codewords are also very high. I strongly suggest getting a tech out there; this issue IS fixable, but if you don't fix it, you'll no doubt start having problems somewhere along the line.

I'll bet if you did a couple of pingtests at pingtest.net we'd see packet loss somewhere.

Please don't take this post the wrong way, but the tech/installer just fed you a bunch of 'baloney'. Just trying to help you out.

tl,dr: Those stats are VERY bad.

Re: Wow...

Most of those numbers are still out of spec but they're definitely better than before, particularly your SNR and power levels. Be careful when summer shows up though; those high temperatures can push your upstream power level up and your downstream power levels down further.

If you can tolerate those levels for now, just leave it alone I suppose until a 'good' tech is willing to show up.

Re: Wow...

Looking better.

- Your SNR is definitely tolerable now, though still somewhat low
- The downstream power levels are within minimum range, but again, tolerable
- The upstream is still iffy, but if you're not getting any packet loss and you're receiving the speeds you pay for, don't worry about it.

Basically what I'm saying is if everything's working okay as far as speeds, packet loss, disconnects, etc. goes, don't worry about your line.

But if problems do arise in the future, have the line checked out again.

Out of curiousity..

You list $114/month - is that the total cost for "all" services that you receive from CableONE or did you sign up for a "Business Tier" Internet connection?

Also - have your modem's stats improved enough that you have a consistent/usable connection?

Thanks!

Re: Out of curiousity..

Ugh. I'm sorry to hear that the rates were so aggressively increased. My wife and I decided to abandon commercial television (short of an antenna) over a year and a half ago. We don't miss that bill.

To "make up" for the 'lost' services, we pay for Netflix at ~$12/month, which includes the Blu-Ray rental option. We primarily use it to stream movies and TV shows. Otherwise, there's Hulu Plus and Amazon's Digital Downloads to make up the differences as well.

Anyway - if you've not checked out the Cable ONE forum here on DSLReports, I do recommend that you check it out. There have been some changes in their system for some of the footprint -- which would be the DOCSIS 3.0 service has been rolled out in "test markets". »CableOne

I have CableONE.. I have their premium internet which is 10 megabytes download and 1 megabyte upload with a 5 GB 12 hour period cap. Which means from 12 pm - 12 am you have 5GB you can download and upload total combined otherwise your speed is throttled to 5 megabytes download and 512 kilobytes upload till after midnight then the usage meter resets. I also have their standard cable which is 60 analog channels and 52 digital channels. They do have a Ultra tier which is an extra $24 per month which gives you 12 megabytes download and 1.5 megabytes upload with PowerBoost. I have never hit the usage cap within the time frame given so I never have to worry, not to say that I don't download a lot because I do, but I make sure to check my bandwidth meter at cableone.net every now and then throughout the day.. Overall this company is a great company and I would recommend them to anyone, I don't why people always want to bash them and never want to say anything positive...

Originally I posted the following:

"I had BellSouth DSL for years. Began experiencing constant connection problems and poor speed which BellSouth (AT&T) was unable to correct."

If AT&T could have corrected my static problem, I probably would still be with them. Instead, I switched to CableOne.

Since that time I have continued using CableOne (5MB). I remain satisfied with the service. I am provided with a consistent and reliable connection (something AT&T was unable to provide). No problems with ordering or installation.

My only complaint is the bandwidth throttling.
