This is overall a good isp. I have never lost service. However I do believe that I do pay too much for what I get. I am on the premium plan, however. I have never lost service and run about what I am supposed to get: 10m/1m. I will update this review as conditions warrant.

Coming From a area where there was only a slow DSL (1.5 Mbps) for a higher price, I think this is great. Install was fast, and I have actually ran consistently over my advertised speed. Only downside is the Fair Access Policy, but I have never even gotten to 1/2 of the threshold yet. Overall, a great buy.
Update: I just upgraded to the premium package and it is consistently faster that those advertised speeds as well. I am very impressed with this ISP!

Overall i am very satisfied with the quality of the internet service itself. The quality of the tech support department is another thing entirely. I swear some of the techies there don't know the difference between Ethernet and USB.

Got fed up with BellSouth prices and incompetent tech support. Never got my 6 meg service right.
I seen several adds for CableOne internet and phone service, I talked with several people who had internet and later added the phone service and they had nothing but good things to say about the service. So I decided to bite the bullet and try the service.
The local office was great handling the switch over, I decided to change my number to one of the CO phone numbers and I love the service. Phone call quality is superior to BellSouth's by a mile. And all the horror stories I've heard about cable internet lag and slow down during peak hours have been just that stories. I've had no lag and no slow downs at all. I have the 5 meg down and the 500 up and I stay above those numbers all the time.
The install process was as painless as could be. The techs were great and new their stuff. I now live about 400 yards off the main road and they had to run a new service drop to me from the main road. The original drop was to small to carry all three services.
I have the Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem. The only complaint is that I can't "see" the modem stats unlike the modems from BellSouth. But I guess thats the only complaint I have with that.
Overall the only complaint I have is their channel lineup. It is not nearly as good as Directv or dishnetwork. I am gonna make the swap back to one of them in the near future.
Other than that I have no complaints and would recommend them to anyone here in the Brookhaven area if you can get them. As I said before phone call quality is much much much better than BellSouth.
UPDATE: 12/27/08
Well I guess its about time to update my review of Cable One and its services that I have in my home.
I have since dropped the phone service and use my cellphone for my all my phone calls. It is not because of the service I was receiving from Cable One, it is because OI am now back to working offshore and I am not at home enough to warrant having and paying for home phone service. The phone service was fantastic and I did not have any issues with the service or the price I was paying at the time.
I have continued to use their cable TV and internet service. I have not complaints whatever with the internet service. I no longer do a whole of downloading so the caps do not bother me. I do on occasion go over and get capped but its not a big deal. No drops or interruptions in service, and yes I check my logs when I am home.
My only complaint with the tv service portion is that I wished they carried more children s programming such as directv and dishnetwork does. But my child is getting older so I guess in a couple of yrs it will really be a moot point anyway.
So overall I am very well satisfied with the service I get from Cable One and would reccomend them to anyone.
Update: 2/28/09
Well I moved recently and kept my service with CableOne. My only complaint at this time is the coordination between me and the service dept. It took them several days to come out and run the necessary outlets for me. They promised between 1 and 5 pm but showed up around 6:30 that night. The lead tech Pat done a fantastic job but his helper half-assed his portion and they had to come back out and fix the stuff he done. Again at this point I as satisfied with the service and would recommend it to anyone.

| Probable drop Cable due to Price Increase I noticed in June the BASIC cable goes from $33 a month to $50 a month. I think I will end up going with a dish and keeping their internet. I think they have some of the best internet in our area. AT&T might as well just have dialup out here, their network is so SLOW.... | |

CableOne tech showed up yesterday (1 day install), i ordered tv, and internet. I subscribed to the 8m service and 2 hddvrs, with their digital package etc. Both the hd-dvr boxes were motorolas, as well as the cable modem (which was significantly smaller than when I last had the service years ago)
Switchover from my old dsl was a snap, removed the pppoe settings from my Linksys, and plugged it in, everything else was automatic. The installer was great, install was honestly a total of about 45 mins, mostly because I did all of the home theater connections myself (and very quick too, switching them out from my old Directv hd box)
On average, I am getting about 8.4Mbps download and about 605 upload, the last one done 5 mins ago at 8pm MTN time, and my ping times are about 40ms quicker than my old 7m Qwest dsl, I beleive because my first hop is a 10 min drive, not 5 hours...
Overall, very happy with the new service, channel listings are taking a while to get used to, but very happy.

I get 300KB downloads when I am throttled, when I usualy get about 650KB downloads when I am uncapped.
This is STILL better than the 1.5MB DSL i used to have.
Your logic is flawed sir. | |

From the time I called till I was online was maybe 15 minutes, but it took me a bit longer to get my network all set up. I was amazed at the speed....I subscribed to the 3000/300 and after tweaking my mtu and rwin numbers, I went to dslreports and measured my speed on Speedeasy's speedometer and was amazed at getting 2839/279 or a download transfer rate of 354.9 KB/sec and it does measure out to that.
I previously had BellSouth Fast Access 3000 and never got over 1400 kbps.
I am extremely happy so far with Cableone. If my connectivity is as good as it was with BellSouth, I will stay happy.
11 May 2007 Cableone Rocks...
Download Speed: 5169 kbps (646.1 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 477 kbps (59.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
was my latest reading and I have had that consistent for around 10 months. I would absolutly never go back to dsl.....
15 August 2007 For the past month, my service has really rocked....My latest reading taken just a few minutes ago was as follows:
Last Result: Download Speed: 8308 kbps (1038.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 550 kbps (68.8 KB/sec transfer rate) I have been getting this consistently for about a month. sometimes it is over 1000kbps.
Alll I can say is the service here on the gulf coast is fantastic!!!

My download speed constantly and reliably downloads at 8800+ daily and nightly. Cableone is a fantastic isp and the service, when u need it, is great. The people are so friendly, capable and knowledgeable and will go the mile with u to make things right. I am running an AARRIS Model TM502G cable modem that provides both internet and Cable Phone service.
Thank you CableOne.

Took a little while for the install, but I ordered it a week before I moved in anyway, so I didn't have to wait that long.
I currently pay for the 4000/400 service, and every speed test I have run says I get 5600 down and over 500 up. Can't complain about that! I don't know what my latency is (I don't game), but I have never had a problem with my Vonage service or T-Mobile @home service over it, so obviously the latency isn't a problem.
About a week after install, I got up in the morning and the modem wouldn't sync, and nothing I tried helped. I called at 10am, and they said someone would be out to look at it by 5pm, the SAME DAY! A tech came out, quickly deduced that the problem was not on my end, climbed the pole, and replaced a faulty connection on the tap. No charge to me.
Also, the staff that answer the phone at the local office are always really nice.
My other options in this area are Qwest DSL and Clearwire. Since I already had Vonage, I had no need for Qwest to force a landline on me. And since I am not a millionaire, I would have had to sign a 2 year contract with Clearwire - yeah right!
Modem is a Moto SB5100. Install was easy - since I was still moving in, I just had the tech hook it up to the only live outlet in the house to my laptop, then later on I installed an outlet where I wanted it (I used to be a DirecTV installer, so I know how to run RG6).
UPDATE 05JUN2008:
Haven't noticed an outage in 9 months. Have had to reset the modem twice in 9 months (that's awesome!). I get exactly the speeds advertised (10-25% higher on the upload).
They DO throttle, but only between the hours of 12:00 and 00:00, and only if you download over 1GB during those hours, so I can't even complain about that. I just turn Azureus on when I go to bed, and off when I get up in the morn.
I would like faster upload speeds, as I think CableOne has the lowest upload speeds of any cable ISP in the nation. Paying $100 for the SOHO option just to get decent uploads isn't worth it.
Overall, however, I am still satisfied with the service.

I ordered 3000/300 for $29.95 a month.
The order process was great in light of my own foot dragging. I didn't want the cable on the outside of the house we're renting. Neither did our landlord. So I told them I wanted it in the attic, dropped in each room, down the wall. But I didn't want to pay an additional installation fee for that. So they told me to calculate how much cable, and how many splitters, etc. I would need. Then I could call them and they would get it all together for me, for free.
They did just that. I figured 150', and they cut me 160'. I had 10' of cable left when I got it run. Then a guy came out promptly and terminated and tested everything. I asked him to give the modem a direct run from the pole. But no luck. So I asked him to send the first split to the modem and then the TVs. Then bitta-bing-bitta-boom I was online. It just took me a while to get off of my butt and get the cable run. I cut the 10' leftover piece in two and asked him to terminate them for me, and he did.
All my modem responses are in spec. They also offer up to 5mb here. What's good about that is there are no slowdowns reported with that speed. So I'm not worried about slowdowns with my 3mb. I had asked them about that because I had always heard about the so called "up to" the advertised speed with cable. But I haven't noticed any slowdowns here.
Before getting cable I had ADSL 1.5/512. What I have now is consistently twice that in surfing and in downloads. We're happy campers.
I had bought a Motorola SB5120 to use with their service. I have it hooked to a DLink DI-704P router. I'm not certain but I think it is DynamicIP.
The one thing I was bummed about, and it isn't their fault, is that my Smoothwall system will not work with it. It should work no different than it did with ADSL, but... The modem works, and the connectibility is there. But Cableone can't see who I am. So I took ole Smoothie out of the mix. It's just as well, I wanted a new motherboard anyway, so I bought a DFI LANparty UT nF3 250Gb. It has the Nvidia hardware firewall built-in. Hopefully I won't have the same trouble with that hardware firewall. I'll let you know here.
The reason for my less than perfect score on the tech support was because I thought they should have been able to help me with the Smoothwall problem. But maybe they had never heard of it. So they told me to contact the Smoothwall people. So I thought that was reasonable.
==============================
Okay, October 30th... Smoothwall is now working flawlessly with the modem/router CableOne.net setup. Speed results are excellent. No problems still.
==============================
Okay, September 28th... This is a late long time in coming update. I pulled the Smoothwall system and installed the NVidia motherboard. The hardware firewall is playing nice with the cable modem.
I also asked them if they were planning any local speed upgrades, because Windstream DSL in our area is upgrading their customers to 6mbits. They sent me back the canned answer of "Due to the nature of your question it would be better if you called our tech support line". I just blew it off, you know, you get what you get. Why fight it? Two days later I noticed a big jump in speed. Sure enough, they upgraded me to 5000/500. Now how about that?!
Like I said- they're working hard to be the best in our area. Why didn't they bump me up to 6mbits you ask? The highest speed they offer is 5 mbits. So they probably don't have anything faster yet. You will notice that I was originally getting the 3000/300 for $29.00. Normally the $29.00 only gets you the 1.5mbits speed. But because I got it with a bundle they kicked in the 3000/300. Well now they've bumped me up to 5000/500. And still no increase on the cost.
So I'm telling you all this to let you know that CableOne is working hard in my area to be the best they can. I know you know that CableOne is a big company with regional offices. But how well they perform for you comes down to the local office in your area. Well, let me say that I don't at all know who controls the speed- local or the home office. But I can certainly vouch for what I've seen.
This message was written by Mercurybird not CableOne. Just PM me and ask if you doubt it.
