First they send out a installer who has no concept of line/voltage drop. He leaves me hooked up with stanadard 6ga. dropline when I am over 300ft. from the pole.
After numerous complaints to tech about poor speeds and packet loss and numerous visits to my home failing everything but the drop line. The problem was never solved. After more nasty emails and calls to tech. They send over a line tech. Within 5 minutes he states exactly what I had been saying all along. My drop line is to small a guage for the length. It should have been changed at install of service. Or during one of the numerous visits from techs.
My speeds are much better now. However metrocast has a serious issue with packet loss. There techs will even openly admit to this issue. They also most recently have been having email problems.
Now they will not own up to there own failure and make good on there faults. When asked for credits. They will not do so. They would rather let you walk away. And lose a customer. Bad business.
The only people you will find praising Metrocast on these or any boards are employee's. The dslreports.com ranking of broadband ISP's is very accurate these guys are dead last for a reason. There network sucks, there customer service sucks. And there techs need much.much more training.
I would take Comcast any day over these guys. Infact I was a Comcast customer for years. Yes they had issue's. But they were always willing to correct billing if the problems were due to there ignorance.
I have recently scheduled for direct TV to be installed as well as DSL. Sure it's a speed drop. But I much rather be treated with respect and a quality customer than be bullied by a company who believes just because they are the only cable company in certain areas they can treat there customers like dirt and force you to accept there failures. All the while paying full price. My problem was not related to a system issue or there network or congestion. It was due to there ignorance and all the while I paid full price for a service I had no way of ever receiving the speeds advertised because of there ignorance. I myself have already filed a claim with the BBB and encourage everyone to do the same.
These guys are monopoly crooks.

Ordered 4mb/384 service. Started out at 1.5/384, but then was switched up to the 4/384 without calling. Have had some issues using Vonage, VOIP. Called Metrocast tech support, they were very responsive checking for network problems. Quickly sent to level-2 tech who follwed up three times to ensure the problem was resolved.
Order process was easy over the phone, it did take two weeks to schedule the installer, but he was very proficient and knowledgeable. Saw what needed to be done, did it, and got out. Using my own Linksys cable modem which I purchase when with Comcast for a short time in another area (horror story there).
Bought my satellite reciever for $250 in credit for TV service.

I just got metrocast this week, and I feel everyones pain. I too am in greenbriar and get about 15k/sec downloads. The best time to do any downloading seems to be early in the morning when I wake up. I was able to get ~300k/sec downloads at that time of the day.
I just moved from Prince Frederick (a comcast area) where I was used to 800k/sec downloads from them. This is just UNBELIEABLE. Who do I get in contact with to fix this, or atleast complain to?

I think that for the money, the ISP is well worth it. I rarely require tech support since I'm a geek, so they work out quite well for me. I've used them with windoze, linux and unix, and it works great with all the above. I've even had their business class service before, and I got the dedicated bandwidth I was promised.

Updated:
I just got off the phone with Owen. He gave me a ton of information regarding my DNS issues, all of which were very informative and helpful. I dont know who I talked to last time, but im glad I was able to speak to someone who didnt mind explaining the situation.
I dont know if the issue is resolved, but he did give me alot of ways to workaround the problem which is all I need at the moment
I do recommend that myeastern adds some email contacts to their site as it's very frustrating for some of us to speak on the phone as opposed to email for some technical issues.
Anyway, thanks to owen for giving me a ring. It shows alot for myeastern in regards to customer care and actual know-how when it comes to what they are selling.
------------------ I hate them.
Apparently they do not update their DNS cache very often, and usually for some reason their DNS cache dumps so my sites are randomly dead yet viewable to everyone else in the world. My cable bill is 200 dollars a month and I cant even get CLOSE to a 6mbit connection which Im paying for.
The biggest issue is the DNS, and the tech support is very rude. They accuse me of not knowing what im talking about, accuse me of making domain DNS changes which have NOT been done. The tech support talks very condescendingly to people, and will not listen to me. (my host Hostgator.com confirmed this is a myEastern issue)
Im very frustrated, if DSL was available to me I would cancel myeastern in a HEARTBEAT. I'd start to like them if they would stop dumping their DNS and perhaps refresh the cache every few hours like Comcast did.
I hate them.

Have had the lower tier service for about a year and a half. It started at 1.5Mbps/128kbps, and has been upgraded to I believe 3Mbps/256kbps. Have had virtually no issues with my connection, except for a few minor incidents. Price is I believe $35/mo if you have cable, or $45/mo without cable tv service.
Would love to get a hier tier of service, but bundled with my HDTV service my bill is already peaking $150/mo.
All-in-all myeastern is competitively priced and a decent ISP.

Ok, here's the deal, first of all, let me say, I've been working in IT for about 10 years now. So I can spot a computer idiot when I see one. We got metrocast when we first moved into our apartment. Everything was fine for a month. Then one day I come home from work and speeds have gone from 4mbps down to 1.5mbps down, with no explanation. So I call tech support and talk to several morons who say that there is no packet loss, so finally they send a tech out to me. The tech can't figure it out.....so what does he do? That's right folks, he says, "if the problem continues....call tech support". So obviously, since he didn't do anything I ended up calling tech support. They obviously still can't figure it out, so they send another tech out to my place again. That tech says the same thing that the first one says VERBATIM and leaves. This vicious cycle of insanity has happened several times now, and I'm SO sick of it. Then FINALLY they send out TWO techs, named Chad and Jeremey, that seemed somewhat patient and knowledgable. They also were the first two people I had spoke with from Metrocrap that didn't treat me like a complete moron before I even gave them a chance to know what I know. Yesterday, I was told by a guy named Michael at tech support that a field supervisor would be sent out to my house today to fix the problem. The problem is very simple, it's NOT IN MY APARTMENT, there is obviously a problem with the lines. So yet again, they send two more techs out here today, and guess what my friends, that's right.....one of these "knowlegable tech's" was Jo Jo the indian circus boy MICHAEL who I had spoken with at tech support the night before. What kind of bunk computer company sends out a phone tech to your HOUSE!!!!!!???? Anyway, they were rude to my wife and left. So as you can see, the bottom line here is don't waste your time or your money if you have another option.....TAKE IT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!

DSL is significantly slower than cable. In our area the phone co. offering DSL is out of their mind. They are offering 1.5 Mbps down and 256 Kbps up for $39.95 the same price for what MetroCast Online charges for 4 Mbps down and 384 Kbps up. There isn't even consideration here. Get METROCAST!!

I recently noticed that Metrocast now routes through Time Warner/Roadrunner at their gateway. Why? I have experienced some packet loss in RR's network which is the reason for my concern.

A couple of years ago they were 512kb/128 for home user and a year later up to 1.5Mb. Now they're offering 4MB download speeds - very similar to Comcast. I use them to host my webserver and paying $100 which now includes the 1 static IP I need, which used to be a $25 extra charge! I get 3.0 / 768k... I wish they'd raise the uploading speeds as well, but for my simple websites that I host, it's good enough. I can't think of any outages since they left GWI back in August of 04 and went on their own. My Vonage I use with it works great as well... I think they're only getting better and doing a great job on their own!
