Insight's 10.0 internet package has really held it's own in my location. It hasn't lost connectivity in quite some time and it performs at it's peak.

However, getting it set up was where most of the headache occurred. It would appear to me that Insight's policy with their contractors is pretty loose, considering that every install I've had (I've gone through 4 different apartments) the contractor has either been extremely late or hasn't shown at all; in fairness, however, I've received a monetary credit each time - but going through the experience is pretty disheartening (especially when you're dying to get your internet fix).

All I have to say at the moment is that I'm pretty happy with how the service has been running since I got it back last August (8/2007). I've not had to deal with the problems that plagued me in the past.

Very nice downstream. Can utilize over 14mbit (I have plus) after some heavy tweaking especially with RWIN.

Provides very nice Usenet access through Giganews. Always had complete and reliable binaries from the provided news server.

I was sent the wrong configuration file twice (I am a Plus user and I got sent the Basic bandwidth cap files twice). Fixed moderately quickly with calls to support each time.

Pings will usually deteriorate into the low 3 digit territory at times, and this can interfere with gaming.

Insight connections are packet shaped, noticeably with Bittorrent. incoming packets containing bittorrent data seems to be dropped at Insight's end. This can interfere with it on torrents with low amounts of seeds. Despite this, on well seeded torrents I hit my downstream cap and upload.

What are your latency numbers (I live in Kenton Co.); mine have been crap, and my upload speeds are real inconsistent. Downloads can get quite awful during peak periods fluctuating wildly. Playing my Xbox360 is hard during peak periods online!

Re: To WrzWrz

The sporatic latency issues, random disconnects, etc seems to be totally random at times. Last week I had a perfect connection (Campbell Co) except on Sunday(s). And I do mean it with an "s" as it seems every Sunday as of late, primetime, my connection becomes awfully sporatic from around 6pm till whenever the kiddies go to bed and stop bottlenecking the darn upload bandwith

This week, however, has been horrible!

Not a major improvement.

If your downloading from a sever with a 200k transfer rate that's all your getting. Having a 20MB, 30Mb or 50MB download speed isn't going to increase the other guys speed.

The bottom line is your really not getting any major benefit from that extra 20$ other than spending more money to feel good.

Speed 10/1 initially $40.00 a month for HS only. After 2 years they up the price to $44.95 (promotional pricing ended) Was contacted after a few months by customer service & was told if i got just the $8.00 basic cable package bundled with my HSI, I would pay only $39.95 a month. Well this was a no brainer to me. I was never really into any other 'TV' package 'cause i never really watch tv much

My experience overall with the Customer Service in the past with issues have been top notch.

I am in an area that is getting assimilated by Comcast. Tell you quite frankly I am a bit concerned and will miss some of the personal attention I received the the Insight techies in the early morn.

I've had InsightBB Plus for about 3 years. Its not a very good value for the money, but its my only option. I don't have a phone line. I'm paying for 6/512 and I usually get about 5200/480. I have a Motorola SB5100 and a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router. They don't seem to have a monthly cap. I use Orb to stream live TV and the extra upload really helps! I'm happy except for the price.

UPDATE: Speeds have been increased to 15/1.5 for the InsightBB Plus service. I'm getting about 14/1.2, but... I've gotten 2 calls and several emails about using too much bandwidth. They can't define how much is too much... I just supposed to use less. I'm in the process of dropping their cable for satellite and am going to keep using bandwidth until they shut off my account! They will have to pry Orb out of my cold dead hands

UPDATE: I dropped down to InsightBB 10/1 service. Cut my bill in half and I don't feel like I've really lost anything. No problems to report. Speeds are pretty consistent at 10/1.

Bandwidth Hog?

So what are you doing to make them call/e-mail you? And don't dare say, "just browsing the web", yadda yadda, either. Fess up! There isn't -any- reason for anyone to use THAT much bandwidth (apparently on almost a daily schedule) that hasn't bought their own T1/+ line.

Greenstreak (Naked DSL) (almost)

If you have switched to sat tv service, you can use Windstream "Greenstreak", 30$ for DSL without having a phone line. You can post over at the Windstream forum for any questions you might have.

We had WOW (Wide Open West), their broadband was deteriorating rapidly, many evenings it would test no higher than 768Kbps (download) although we were paying for 6Mpbs. WOW customer support was the stank as well. We were going to look into satellite + DSL but Insight's Digital 3.0 was much the better deal. We've got about 20 HD channels and plenty of digital music plus SD channels, 10Mbps broadband, and good phone package for under $130/mo. We feel its hard to beat. We are, however, concerned that the deal stay good after the Comcast takeover. Hopefully it will.

No Comcast

Comcast will not be taking over the Evansville market, so your pricing/services will stay the same.

Reliable service at a reasonable price. Well-informed and eager technical support group.
None, on average. Recent issues may change this, however.
For the most part, I've found the service to be transparent: there when I need it; no problems when I use it.

It's difficult for me to write a review because, for going on three years now, I haven't noticed my ISP. Sure, when I first moved into my apartment, I had to schedule a time for installation, but from that point on, the only thing I've taken notice of is my online work and recreation. As mentioned earlier, for the longest time, I've considered the InsightBB service to be transparent, and, in my opinion, this is perhaps the highest acclaim that can attributed to an ISP.

What might I change, though? I wouldn't mind a higher upstream rate--symmetrical would be neat. Also, having my own Cisco uBR7100 series CMTS instead of a cable modem would make for a fancy setup, but somehow, I doubt they'd ever just lease one of those...

As my final note, I do have to bring up the evening latency issues I've been seeing since 11/25/07. Suddenly, pings to google.com began shooting up to ~250 ms or higher after 7:30 PM or so. At the moment (12/11/07), I'm still working with Insight to resolve this. Regardless, the issue they're experiencing is probably compound and almost certainly not simple. Despite the latency, I've been able to browse with impunity, but it has taken its toll, nevertheless. The following link points to my most recent speed test results (assuming the link still works by the time you click it): »msord.visualware.com/mys ··· =2732335.

As far as the upcoming billing and support turnover (Comcast) is concerned, I really won't know until we get there.
