I have had Zoomtown from Cincinnati Bell for years and years. 2001 rings a bell but I just don't remember. I am WAY far away from their CO so my speed has been stuck at 1.5 for the entire time that I have had it. No outages or anything, but dog slow when we have 3 or 4 computers on the Internet at once.

I would have switched sooner but I just assumed that Insight wouldn't give me just Internet. I have DirecTV and won't switch because of the Sunday Ticket thing that they have. CinBell really yanked me wrong Monday. Yesterday (7/17/07) on the way to work I simply called Insight and asked. The lady simply said "sure, we'll take your money".

Very nice young man came today and put her in. To go from 1.5 to 8+ is simply amazing. I gave CinBell the same amount of money and was really treated like crap when I called to try to make things any better. They didn't treat me like crap today when I called to cancel two phone lines and Zoomtown.

Insight works very well in my area. I know this from my neighbors. Now I see for myself that the grass really is greener on the other side. The speed thing is being worked on to get me up to 10 but even if they can't move it from 8 I am thrilled to be getting what I am. Insight will have me for a very long time at this rate.

UPDATE 7/21/07 Insight has identified a signal issue that is keeping me down around 8 on the download speed. They really want to come and check it out but because of my schedule I can't do it for another week or maybe two. There is another + for them over CinBell. I complained about my signal for 4 years and never did they send someone out here to "check this out".

I am a skeptic of the cable company, but they have not only said all of the right things to me at this point they have also backed them up. I have gotten great service from Time Warner at my business and now am getting great service from Insight.

UPDATE 8/13/07 I STILL have not gotten around to calling about the slightly slow speeds on my service. The 8+ that I am getting has been ROCK solid for a month now. I have no complaints at all and even though I am not going to drop DirecTV I may add their digital cable for my kids to have in their rooms. A bit of a reward if you will for such great service. NO, I do not work for Insight. I don't even know anyone who does.

UPDATE 9/5/07 Nearly 2 months in and still not a single issue. Though I never called to schedule someone to come and look at my speed issue I am now at 9.5+ and during prime time I get 7+. My Vonage service works perfectly on Insight BB and I couldn't be happier.

UPDATE 11/20/07 4 months and not a single issue at all. Service has been as rock solid for me as Zoomtown was. Speeds are now stable at all times of the day or night at 10.3 Mbps down and about 950kbps up. Happy I switched and wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

Been using since Dec 2000 (when it was @home). Since the speed upgrades, for the most part, I am happy with it. I am on the standard package with 10M/1M DL/UL speeds. I am always getting great UL speeds but the DL speeds are not consistent (sometimes they are as advertised and sometimes they are nowhere near it.) Overall, Insight's price is reasonable (I get cable TV from them also. So, the broadband internet connection is cheaper.)

-What speed did you order, at what monthly price?,
I currently on the basic package (10mbps/1mbps)

    -How was the order/install process?,
I ordered Insight Broadband years ago and can’t 100% remember the installation process but I do remember the Tech they sent to my house to install the service did a very professional job and even called me the next day to follow-up and make sure my service was working correctly.

-Static IP, dynamic IP, or PPPoE?,
Dynamic IP, however it only changes if you change your mac address on your router...

    -Other bad/good experiences?
This past June insight switched backbone's. The switch was poorly planned and left me without internet service for a week or so. Since the Backbone switch we have been routed Through Atlanta(Used to be routed through Chicago) which makes absolutely no sense... Especially when all the other isp's around here route through Indianapolis or Chicago... It has as well cause the ping times to skyrocket and make gaming horrible.

Update: They fixed the routing for my area about a week ago and now they are routing through Chicago... Ping times are now amazing and the speeds continue to be constantly at the cap.

Update: The area where I live has grown so fast that my node has become overloaded. Speeds now suck and I can't speedtest above 1 meg unless its 2 in the morning. I've reported it to insight many times and they don’t seem to care. It's looking like they are letting our area go downhill now that Comcast is taking over soon.

Update: Can now Speedtest at 9Mbps. Not quite the 10mbps I used to be able to get but a major improvement over 1Mbps. Pings still fluctuate greatly and are considerably high during the day.

Update: Things seem to have degraded farther in the past day or so. Speeds have been dropping in to the 4-5Mbps Range the past couple of days.

Update: After 4pm Speeds drop from 10Megs to around 6-4Megs and Latency Sky rockets. Several Insight Tech's have told me the area is indeed oversold yet Insight does not seem willing to fix the issue. Seems like recently if you call Tech support at night the only people you'll be able to talk to are kids who have no idea what their doing and talk with so much "Ghetto Slang" you can’t even understand what they are trying to say.

    My Other Reviews·Comcast
    ·Vonage
    ·Comcast Digital Vo..
10/28/07: I wanted to be sure to update this review IF Insight fixed my installation issue. They did come out 3 days later to install a new line to my house. They were quick to inform me that billing wouldn't start until my issue was resolved. In fact, they called a few days later to be sure that I was satisfied with my service. I have since improved the scores for Insight's service. I will note that I have a 2-way signal amplifier on the line to compensate for the splitters.

The connection speed is blazing fast, and page loads are somewhat faster than DSL, but not to an extreme. However, the downloads are where I really notice the speed difference. I was able to download a 1.8 gigabyte file (game demo) in about 25 minutes. I do notice at peak times that page loads take a little longer, but the difference is not unbearable. So far in only a week I haven't noticed the connection totally going down.

10/19/07: I used to have InsightBB until five years ago when I signed up for Ameritech DSL. AT&T is getting unbearable for me to deal with. After five years of having DSL, I called Insight to install cable TV and broadband again. I was hoping to have a blazing fast internet connection for $30/month. What I actually have is a connection that doesn't seem any faster than my DSL, with packet loss to boot. The problem is that Insight has only one line running across a ravine in back of my house to service three residences. In order to get service to my house the installer had to split the line from my neighbor's house. That means the signal was about -13db coming into the house according to the installer. This is BEFORE any splitters. Well, amazingly the modem synced up. I started to use the connection, and I could instantly tell there was some packet loss. After doing continuous pings to Google, the packet loss ranged anywhere from 1 to 7%. The connection seems as though it is much worse. A speed test turned out OK at about 9700 kbps down/950 kbps up, but I can't even run Vonage off this connection because of the packet loss. I won't even mention the problems with digital and analog TV. It's a good thing I didn't cancel AT&T DSL yet because I had to reconnect for a good high-speed connection. Another line technician is supposed to be out in a few days to redo the line my house. I'll post back hopefully after the problem is resolved.

Been a high speed customer for 4-5 years. Low level customer service suxs but what else can you expect - I immediately ask for next tier level when I have to call.

Installation - the tech checked every connection from alley to back of modem and TV. He replaced the tap at the pole and a splitter to be safe. Very quick and professional install and did have any problems until they upped the speed to 10.

After a couple of tech visits and the president trading emails with me they had it working within 48 hours with no complaints since.

    My Other Reviews·Comcast
    ·DSL EXTREME
I have 10.0/1 with Insight Communications. The download speeds are very snappy at 10mb, and the upload at 1M is adequate.

I very rarely have an issue with Insight's reliability. When I do, I find the phone support somewhat frustrating at times. However, I have a few contacts via e-mail and can also get ahold of the occasional person at the local office that knows what's going on. I've barely had enough problems in the past couple of years (since 2002) to even call Insight, but when I have, they have given me GREAT customer service.

This is really a great bang for the buck, especially if you want reliability.

I've been with Insight Broadband starting with @Home in July 2001. I fortunately have had very little experience with Tech Support.

I haven't had any major outages since I've had broadband.

Price is $34.95/mo after $10 discount for digital.

Only problems I've ever had were during the upgrade to 10/1, nothing major since.

And I REALLY hate being switched to Comcast.

I personally am looking forward to comcast. Comcast actually takes care of their network unlike insight who's letting it go to crap.

Have been with Insight for over 3 years. Have internet only, no TV or phone.
Have 6 computers networked through router and all work fine.Have 10Mb down
and 1Mb up. It always runs at 9.60Mbps down and 950Kbps witch is excelent.
Ping times are in the 30-40 range. I almost switched to DSL when Insight was having problems with their switch over, but I stay with them and am glad I did.
All in all Insight is a good reliable service in my area.

PS Have 6 grand kids that like to team up and play games. That's why the 6 computers.
