First of all, I am no longer a customer of Velocitus, but this is due to relocation rather than choice. Due to some problems with my mom's finances, we had to move to another house that had no access to DSL.
Anyway, we were RICA* customers, and that company was bought by Velocitus, and all I have to say is WOW! When the switch happened, our quality of service increased tenfold. We had a 768k home package with a Fujitsu DSL modem (which I still have somewhere around here), and a static IP. Honestly, there isn't a whole lot to report, we never had any issues with service, nor did we need to contact support much (just a couple times to verify connection settings and such). After the Velocitus takeover of RICA, we had almost zero outages, probably the most stable internet connection I've ever experienced.
Also, the Velocitus email system has always been one of my favorites, it was quite a simple process to add/change accounts and such.
We also used the hosting for a short time (I hosted my start-up company's website there), but we quickly outgrew it and moved on to my uncle's ISP, PatriotNet.
I noticed that someone from the company browses these, and I'd like to say thank you for the years of great service, and I hope to return to you someday
--------
* = RICA was a small local DSL company that was bought by some other company that was bought by Velocitus. I think the acronym stands for Rockingham Internet Community Access or something, can't remember exactly.

"Very stable service, IP address only changes every 7 days"
"Additional charges for Static IP"
"640 down, 256 up, for $19.95 plus $30 Qwest charges. Highly recommend!"

After getting my mess with the QWest/MSN DSL straightened out, my order with Velocitus went smooth as silk. They gave me an install date in October 2001, and sent me my Cisco 678 router/modem. As soon as it arrived, I hooked it up and had access.
I ordered the 640 Down/256 Up package, and they charge $19.95 per month. I believe that has gone up to $24.95 per month for new customers since then. Add this to the QWest charges of $30 per month, for a total of $50 per month.
They do charge for static IP service. When I called, it was $15 per month for 5 IPs, of which 3 are usable for computers. The other two are reserved for gateway and broadcast, if I remember correctly. But with Dynamic IP service, the IP address is only changing every 7 days, which is acceptable to me. I use a dynamic IP updater with ZoneEdit which gives me a static hostname, so the IP change doesn't really affect me anyway.
The service is PPPoE, which is programmed into the Cisco router/modem. This gives my network always on access, with no further authentication. The modem cost me an extra $100 ($300 when not on a promotion) but they said they have an Intel USB modem which is free, if you don't need network support.
Long and short, if you need a DSL provider, don't hesitate to give Velocitus a call. I don't know if they have a referral program or not, but please mention my name (Jeremy Hall) just in case.
Update: 7/17/03: Well, I had my Velocitus connection disconnected. This was not because of anything Velocitus did, it is because I am moving. Unfortunately I am moving to an area not yet supported by DSL, so will be forced to go with the local cable company.
In the almost 2 years I had service with Velocitus, I had 1 (yes, one) "major" outtage, which lasted a couple of hours. This was caused by a DNS server that went down. Tech support was very responsive, and even helped my wife troubleshoot an unplugged modem that she accidently did when checking on the status lights. The only other "outtages" that I had lasted 2-3 minutes at a time, usually at like 3:00 AM. This could have been power glitches or noise on my end though, I never did research those further since they never caused a problem or appeared during hours I was using it.
Thanks Velocitus for a very stable service. If DSL becomes available in my new home, and we decide to get a landline installed, I will definitely give you a call.
Jeremy

I went with Velocitus about a year ago, after one of their sales people promised me the included web space could accommodate Frontpage Server Extensions. After the usual connection problems (Qwest, not Velocitus), I finally made the switch and tried to upload my Frontpage site. Of course, it didn't work because (as I learned from the tech support people) the included web space isn't set up for FSE. My repeated complaints to the sales people went ignored. Now my year is up, and I'm looking for an honest ISP. Anyone know of one?

After reading my original review (above), Keri Andrews, Velocitus' DSL product manager, offered to credit me with three months of DSL service. I have accepted the offer and am now amending my review. According to Ms. Andrews, the person who made the misrepresentation no longer works for Velocitus. I appreciate Ms. Andrews' efforts to resolve the situation.

I've had Velocitus/Qwest SDSL256k for almost a year now. Set-up was a huge hassle thanks to qwest. They have some serious problems with internal communication. It took us nearly 3 months to get qwest straightened out. I'm afraid to make any changes because I know they'll screw it up. Velocitus, on the other hand, has been top notch. They've always come through on the tech support side. The ISP connection has been 100% reliable. I highly recommend Velocitus.
