Ive been a customer of Galvestonbay.net for 2yrs now (not by choice
mind you). they are the only service in my area that covers what
RoadRunner does not. I pay $60mon(+tx) for 756k"dedicated bandwidth".
Bandwidth is not "dedicated" as primetime during each day bogs to a
crawl as everyone gets home and checks their email. Service is spotty,
and drops in/out daily, sometimes not to return for 24-48hrs.. Tech
support has a total of 1tech, and will respond w/ answers such as,"i
have no help, because everyone has real jobs to go to". I pay more than
top$ for this service, and would change in an instant if possible.

I am a GalvestonBay.net residential ADSL customer. I pay $73.55 ($69.95
plus tax) per month for 1544 KBps downlaod 128 KBps upload rates. I
avoided the $100 modem deposit by purchasing the required modem on eBay
for $45. I was required to pay a $100 setup fee and sign a one year
contract. I am not more than a mile from the Verizon CO and only get
download rates of around 1100 KBps. This ISP has no NNTP news server
either. In my opinion, I pay too much for the service I recieve. I do
have a good idea of why the prices are so high as compared to other
providers: this ISP is the only one in the area that sells service on
the local Verizon circuits. I also found out that for some legal
reasons Verizon cannot be both the circuit provider and internet service
provider in this area. Thus, I am stuck paying a premium to the middle
man. I would gladly get Time Warner RoadRunner if could, but my
apartment complex has a deal with a satellite provider, so I do do have
that option. A bad situation all around.
