Had Charter in Guntersville,al 20 dn 2 up Rocked the House . No probs and fast as hell.

Moved to the sticks. Not Egypt but can see it from here. After talking to the nice lady I ordered the 8 meg down package with One phone line for the Direct TV boxes. The installer was professional and courtious of my carpet and things. It was rainy, muddy miserable install. Installer said Docs 3 coming in a month or two. Who knows. 16 and 25 as options he said. The way these companies milk us to death is a crying shame. That said, they have to make money.

Will update review as time goes by.. So far so good tho. I internet game mostly and have a L4D server that I upload maps and things to. I am a spoiled child who wants the fastest available connection.Charter set the bar and I hope Knology can deliver. I hope to upgrade to the faster speeds as they become available.

Speed seems all over the map even with fresh wiring. 5am when I wake up -- or 4pm when I walk in the door gets very close to 8 meg. Evenings / nights are all over the map. I just got 1/2 a meg on my last speed test. That's a far cry from my "up to"

    Update

    Still the same evenings nights
I've gotten 250 down test from their speed test
(that's 1/4 of a meg or DSL Light speed on
    a 7 meg connection)

A tech will be here tomorrow with 1 chance
to make it right. With three completely different
broad band providers in Prattville why not...

    Update 10/1/09

Slow speeds... I often get a small fraction of the "up to" speeds. They've been my backup
connection for a while. Since they top out at "up to" 8 meg and Charter tops out at 20 meg (and usually delivers 21!) I've finally decided it's an expense not worth incurring.

    Knology doesn't care

Yeah. I got the same problem in Valley, AL. The needle is all over the place on speed tests. I used to get 8M pretty regular until a week or so ago. I've been any where from under 1M to 7M. It's like my bandwidth is getting drained or something.

I'm tired of calling and complaining though. They just blame it on my hardware and offer to send a tech out which usually says he can't find any problems and gets good speed test results when he is here.

My household was tried of mediacom with their crappy video services(poor customer service, honestly, 2 weeks to fix a broken cable is well, crappy) and we were also tried of at&t slow internet and phone services, so after 10 years with mediacom/at&t, we switched to knology for phone, cable, and internet. Knology's phone service is standard, cable is fine, internet is in the process of upgrades but we hope for higher speeds in the coming months. I'm able to get any problem i see resolved in 48 hrs or less. only problem i see right now, is prep work for docsis 3.0.

150 for 3 box's, HD, high speed internet(6 mbps down) and voice is not too bad. i wish it was a little lower but i'm better off having to remember 1 number to call instead of 2.

    My Other Reviews·Comcast
The price sounds good, and if the connection were reliable it might be worth it. However, the connection was very unsteady. And, the price they advertise is base price for very basic service. All 'extras' are another $10 each. So by the time you get to the same level of service you had with the other guys, you end up paying MORE for a slower connection, fewer channels, and bad video. My 6 mb connection varied at all hours of the day from 512-ish speeds up, cable channels were pixelated and would occasionally drop. Their support staff was nice, but ultimately useless. When I called to cancel, the lady made snipey remarks about the other company, and that was not at all professional.

Today is my first day of our Knology high speed connection. The technician came between 2 and 4 pm as promised. He took the time to make sure all of the outside connections were proper and secure. He also took the time to straighten out an issue with our digital cable (he called in to make sure we had the proper movie channels). He tested the high speed internet on my wife's laptop and all was said and done! The modem used is a Linksys CM 100 cable modem and it is connected to a Linksys wireless router WRT54GS (my wife's laptop uses the wireless). My wife and I are very happy and glad to have high speed internet!

    More updates to follow...

    Update 05/16/09

All is still going well; download is still what it should be. I am not sure if we got a boost in download speed or it may be just the time of day! Could use more upload!

My subdivision was Knology of Augusta's initial dig. I signed for phone, every cable channel, and high-speed internet. That was 10 years ago. My bill has gone from $150 to $225 per month over the years, that includes every cable channel (except the sports package), includes digital music, the jump to high-def tv with 2 HD STB's (one being a DVR). Knology came to town with something no one else had (high speed internet) bundled with stuff offered by many others (phone/cable), neatly packaged, albeit they had to run their own cable. Over the first few years, I think a Knology truck (or 5) drove into my neighborhood every day doing who knows what, modem resetting was semi-monthly, the bill read like stereo instructions, etc. After a few years, and after all the Mexicans were done drilling cable into the ground all around town, things settled down. I've enjoyed many years of connectivity, telephony, and tv with Knology. I give them a 9 out of 10 overall. I'd like to see their field people a little more experienced with their high-def equipment. The ability to use an HDMI cable and to properly setup audio would show some smarts, rather than just being able to split and screw on a few pieces of co-ax and get a picture and pretend to be done.

    My Other Reviews·Future Nine Corpor..
I've been using Knology cable interent for a couple of years now and can't really complain about it. I use several VOIP providers with it and have multiple applications running on my home network that I access from the web. The Knology WebStar cable modem is tough to work with when you need to forward ports to things like home alarms, video cameras and VOIP boxes. Since most home users aren't going to be doing these things the Webstar is probably fine. I would prefer a little more control over my web connection.

My upload speeds aren't great either at around 256kbps. Download is fine at around 3Mbps.

The internet through Knology cable has been fairly reliable. We've had very few outages and the small ones we have had were limited to a few hours. I didn't even have to call to have them corrected--the internet just came back on its own.

Our TV reception is pretty awful on some channels, Analog basic cable channels that is... Several occasions we've just watched the shows direct from the web because the local reception was so bad.

Our other choice is Comcast but my neighbors who use Comcast have had problems getting VOIP to work.

I have been having issues with knology for over two months now on the internet connectivity. I have noticed constant drops for a minute at a time for the internet. I have tried to provide them with details on what is happening on my system and on several others in the city. Knology continues to try to point the problem to my system, or signal quality, and even my router. I confirmed at least 3 network drop across 4 different households in different parts of the city and they continue to not look into the issues. The tech support chooses to play the its not happening right now on the phone with you so we will continue to ignore the issue. All it would take is a simple 24 hour period of monitoring of the lines to see this issue and they choose to do nothing of the sorts, even when asked to. They appear to really have gone down hill in support

We have Knology's Digital Phone and HS Internet bundle for $74/month. We got it installed when we moved into our new residence. The sales rep, Chip, was very professional and knowledgeable, and was able to schedule the install on our move-in day. Installers arrived on time, and knew what they were doing. I did all the necessary wiring for them, and they were appreciative of that. It's been on for about a month, and we couldn't be more satisfied. No downtime seen yet on the internet, and the phone service is crystal clear. We love not having to use our cell phones for long distance anymore!

As we live right in the middle of the city where it's very densely populated, I was a little hesitant on ordering the internet from a cable provider, but Knology obviously has our area properly balanced as I never see speeds drop below the rated 6Mbps. In fact, speeds are usually in the 6.1-6.4 range, even during peak times.

I had to call tech support once, when I needed to have my router added to the account. There was no hold time to get through, and they got my router going in a few short minutes.

I don't have their CATV services, as I'm a DirecTV installer and get DirecTV for free. However, I am very happy that Knology offers bundled rates when just two services are ordered. Most other companies require you to sign up for three services before they offer any real price reductions.

Knology will continue to my service provider for the indefinite future if they keep up the good work! They're also upgrading the network for DOCSIS 3.0, which will finally put them back at the top of the competition.

Knology's service is getting worse by the day. The ping times are so high that the service is only good for browsing webpages now. If you play games online I would recomend looking for another ISP. I've had better pings with satellite internet service I kid you not.
