Do not set up automatic bill pay! I cancelled my service on January 4th
and they sent me a bill for the entire month of January. When I called
customer service about it, they told me to disregard it because my service
was cancelled and I would not be charged for that month. Then on January
26th, my credit card was automatically charged for the full month of
service. I then called customer service again and they said that it was
because I had service for 2 days in that billing cycle and the
system automatically charges you for the full month. They then said that
they would refund me the difference in the form of a check, but it would
take 60-90 days for me to receive it. If you have no other choice but to
use Knology, do not give them your credit card number!

While this totally sucks, to clear the air a little bit, you are not forced to select the Automatic Bill Pay option. That is totally your discretion.

And about the refund time, I love how they are so quick to charge a late fee, but when YOU want YOUR money, they take their sweet time.

PS. You should charge THEM a late fee!!

I had the Triple Play (Augusta, GA), Cable-Internet-Phone installed in July, now in December, i have had numerous cable issues, picture flashing, loss of sound, loss of picture. Of course service is sent out and normally the fix lasts from days to several weeks. Sometimes an initial problem returns. With that said, I never had this amount and differing issues with Comcast. Knology claims to be customer oriented yet over the last FIVE months problems cannot be resolved, why? I am reconsidering spending the extra $23 per month and returning back to Comcast.

So we ordered knology because our apartment complex doesn't offer another provider unfortunately. They advertise 6MB download speeds but each test I have done on speedtest.net is less than 1MB. I called tech support and he said "wow...your latency that I see from my end is 3000, we will send someone out in a couple of days because there is obviously a problem." The problem is that the speeds on the speed test websites show fine, however when you try to download anything you might as well go out for dinner cause it will still be downloading regardless of how long you are out. If you try gaming at all, you're gonna quit cause it lags so incredibly bad. So the tech guy comes out and I describe my problem and he says and I quote: "It's weird, there are 3 people I have to see in this complex today who report the same problem." He checks the internet and deems it fine and then says " I will call you when I'm finished with the others today and give you a status update at that time." He of course never calls back and my connection is still absolutely awful. PLEAASE do yourself a favor and go with anyone but knology because they frankly couldn't care less about their customers.

We switched to Knology about 4 months ago because ATT raised the prices for DSL. At 1st we were excited switching to Knology due to the low prices and faster speeds... Boy was I wrong. Its ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to surf the internet during 6pm - 9pm everyday. Our connection dramatically SLOWS DOWN to under 1mbit and disconnects often. Its frustrating not having a reliable internet connection. It looks we may have to switch to Mediacom....

I moved to Columbus a few months ago and the only option I had in the apartments is Knology.

First, their website seems to be stuck in the 90's and looks like a high schooler did it. It doesn't have much information on it on pricing, speed, service tiers, what's included in the plans, options for purchasing cable modems, list of compatible cable modems, etc.

Second, their bill is very light on information and what you are getting charged for. It doesn't disclose all the fees or breaks down the fees.

Third, their "broadband" is slow compared to what I got back in Florida from Cox Cable. I tried to watch some movies and TV shows from Netflix and Hulu and their "broadband" couldn't keep up even though I had their highest residential tier. Their excuse was that I lived in an apartment complex and their is a lot of load on their system.

Fourth, whenever it rained pretty hard, the picture from their cable became fuzzy and every once and awhile went out. I counted about 8 times over the past 4 months the cable went out and every time it was raining. I called, they said they will check it out, but the same crap still happens.

Fifth, their upload speed is horrible. I tried to have a WebEx conference with my research partners and the "broadband" couldn't keep up. If fact, they don't even call it broadband, they call it high speed internet. They won't list speeds on their website or on their bill. They just compare it to dial up which is meaningless nowadays unless you are in the dark ages which Knology seems to be in with their internet.

Sixth, they told me that I had to rent the cable modem or buy it from them (of course, at their overinflated price) and I couldn't buy a cable modem myself from a third party for half the price.

Seventh, customer service is not knowledgeable about their products and they have no idea how to help. But that pretty much is standard for cable companies. Bad customer service.

Pretty much, Knology's "High Speed" is equivalent to run of the mill DSL but for almost twice the price.

I got 12 and 20 MB downloads from Cox back in Florida for less than Knology's 8MB service which never got close to the 8MB download. Maybe 3MB and a rare occasional spike to a little over 6MB.

I'm thinking that Knology hasn't put a lot of money in their infrastructure judging by their high speed internet performance and circa late 1990's website.

If you do any online gaming at all this company is terrible.

One honest technician was scheduled to come to my address. Basically he said it would be a wasted trip because the problem is happening all over the Macon Rd. area.

Connectivity is terrible on West Coast servers, okay at best East Coast servers.

Connection drops out or disconnects every 3 minutes simultaneously on my computer, my girlfriend's computer, and our neighbors computer rather we are on a shared network or separate networks. Line connection or wireless.

Apparently 2 weeks ago someone ran a program that detected an issue on Knology's end. The repair is estimated at approx $40K to fix, but because there is not a big enough paper trail of customer complaints Knology has decided to do nothing except claim that the levels are stable on the ping tests. (Which they are, however the problem is with Knology's hardware.)

This information was taken directly from the service technician who said they are having to deal with this and fighting a losing battle for the customer.

If you have similar latency/connectivity issues please post on the forums and reviews. Make them give us the service we pay for!

Speed seems all over the map even with fresh wiring. 5am when I wake up -- or 4pm when I walk in the door gets very close to 8 meg. Evenings / nights are all over the map. I just got 1/2 a meg on my last speed test. That's a far cry from my "up to"

Update

Still the same evenings nights
I've gotten 250 down test from their speed test
(that's 1/4 of a meg or DSL Light speed on
a 7 meg connection)

A tech will be here tomorrow with 1 chance
to make it right. With three completely different
broad band providers in Prattville why not...

Update 10/1/09

Slow speeds... I often get a small fraction of the "up to" speeds. They've been my backup
connection for a while. Since they top out at "up to" 8 meg and Charter tops out at 20 meg (and usually delivers 21!) I've finally decided it's an expense not worth incurring.

Knology doesn't care

Yeah. I got the same problem in Valley, AL. The needle is all over the place on speed tests. I used to get 8M pretty regular until a week or so ago. I've been any where from under 1M to 7M. It's like my bandwidth is getting drained or something.

I'm tired of calling and complaining though. They just blame it on my hardware and offer to send a tech out which usually says he can't find any problems and gets good speed test results when he is here.

I have been having issues with knology for over two months now on the internet connectivity. I have noticed constant drops for a minute at a time for the internet. I have tried to provide them with details on what is happening on my system and on several others in the city. Knology continues to try to point the problem to my system, or signal quality, and even my router. I confirmed at least 3 network drop across 4 different households in different parts of the city and they continue to not look into the issues. The tech support chooses to play the its not happening right now on the phone with you so we will continue to ignore the issue. All it would take is a simple 24 hour period of monitoring of the lines to see this issue and they choose to do nothing of the sorts, even when asked to. They appear to really have gone down hill in support

I just moved into the area from Lexington, Kentucky. The provider there was named Insight. My package there was a 30mb down, 2mb up cable connection for 40.00 a month. For two straight years, I have not once had an issue with Insight or any other cable connection until Knology. With this said, I get here to find out 6.5mb with 378up costs 57.99 (without a bundle or cable service). That was a extreme shocker to me and to find out that the connection doesn't even get 1/5 of the advertised speed. To give you an idea of how bad this connection really is 56k average ping time is between 140ms-200ms (server differs). I'm receiving a ping of anywhere from 450ms to 1400ms (the lower the better). So, I relay this information to the Knology reps and they do everything from switching out modems to having a cable-tech come test my line. Nothing prevails, so the on-phone tech finally admits it's on their side and says he can't do anything about it and that they'll send another technician out to my place! I've read the reviews and I too have experienced the casual run-around that Knology provides it's customers. I'm off to DSL!

07/28/08

It's been about a week now since my last review and still awaiting action from Knology. To prove how much this service really blows, feel free to check out my ping loss on the attachment below!

08/05/08

Another week gone by and still no support. Contacted their internet department and all they can tell me is that they're working on it. The head technician and his side-kick obviously can't fix my connection. I'm forwarding this link to the City Council of Huntsville -- wish me luck.

08/09/08

Packetloss is back up to 60%, bandwidth is peaking at 1.8mb, and pings are consistently high -- really high! Service has been worse then before and tech support has no idea how to fix it. So I'm left with the bill. I guess when they get upset with me not paying my cable bill -- I'll just say I don't know how to pay bills. Seems to work for them...

good luck with AT&T

The whole reason I have Knology is because AT&T (BellSo at the time) support was so bad. When it was good it was good, but when it had problems it was like fighting my way through a maze with no way out.

I sincerely hope it works for you.

Re: good luck with AT&T

Well, as of today 08/28, my service has been disconnected. Its been a long six weeks filled with frustration, disappointment, and of course -- anger. It took a full month for it to reach the corporate level, still with no resolution other than the bill getting paid with no services attached. I've tried installing AT&T, but was told I couldn't because the landlord signed an agreement with Knology -- so this keeps me from having choices to switch. I guess I'll just use the library! Thanks for Mrs. Kennedy from Knology's corporate for her efforts and crediting my account.
