knology is a decent alternative for anyone not dependent upon consistent speed or reliability. (my connection here is CONSTANTLY dropping!)

i used to game online but it's just impossible now -- not even worth trying.

Knology liars! Been working patiently with knology for almost 2 years. My internet connection drops several times a day. They told me it was my router, not them. I have replaced my router twice. Now I am using a top of the line Netgear router (recommended by them). Still having the problem. They want me to replace my router AGAIN! This one is less then 6 months old. They have been telling me all along that NO one else in my area is experiencing the same problem. In talking with neighbors last night we found that others in my area have been complaining to them about the SAME EXACT problem for some time. I say time to go COMCAST!

I wanted TV and Internet but no phone... Brighthouse (Who I had first) was consistent, they advertised speeds of 7 megabits and I got right around there.

Knology advertises 9 megabits and the only time I get it (or got it) was on their network at knology.com where I did their "shaped" speed test. They said they couldn't guarantee speeds outside their network... Who works INSIDE THEIR ISP's NETWORK?

Outside speeds ranged from 900 kilobits to 2.4 megabits... I was experiencing 10-20% packet loss at the first hop all my pings (seen in VisualRoute 2007) hit above 65 ms after I left "their network." Didn't matter how far I was from a speedtest, My pings were all 200+ and my speeds NO WHERE NEAR what was promised.

I just had an engineer out to the house and he wouldn't look at his service side by side with his competition. The competition (that I kept just in case) was pinging well below 65 all the way to google!

Knology is NOT big in my area, the competition is, now I know why. I also have Verizon Wireless Internet and THEY PINGED BETTER and had BETTER CONSISTENT SPEEDS!

I'm sorry I'm mad, but I called them 16 times to resolve this because I couldn't play games on their network, use my Vonage VOIP or even search the web without hesitation, hiccups and lag.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE IDIOTS

  • Augusta,Richmond,GA
  • Contract price not specified.
  • "3 in 1, one bill, Newsgroups"
  • "Not many HD Channels"
  • "Best Choice in Augusta, Georgia"

I like Knology. I do not have the phone service since I have a cellphone and price is probably about the same, give or take a few bucks from Comcast. The service is very reliable and hardly ever down. Best thing I like about Knology is that there is no cap on using newsgroups. Comcast has a cap so if you use the newsgroups and download alot there is only one choice. Knology.

One thing to remember if you have internet service is that your mac address of your computer or if you are going through a router will need to registered with Knology to get online.

I am glad we are using them. I have only had 2 major outages in 3 years. Their bundle at the time we signed up was great and now they are even less. My business is located in Pinellas County.

New house in new neighborhood with underground utilities. Great service -- they've always tried to respond as quickly as possible, and phone service has been fine. I've only had 3 outages: first was when Comcast dug up Knology's cable, second was due to a lightning strike on the house, and 3rd was due to a dying modem. In the last case, they diagnosed it remotely and dispatched a tech who showed up with a replacement modem the very next day, resulting in a downtime of less than 24 hours.

My system runs 24x7 and offers up services to my remote family and friends. I've never had one complaint save for during the 3 outages mentioned above.

Speed is great, and that includes the fact that at any point in time, I've got at least 4, if not 7 computers online through the one connection. Here's the SpeedTest results to GA:

Test Result:
Download Speed: 4105 kbps (513.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 361 kbps (45.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

When I first moved in, I was getting about 2.5Mbps. They quietly upgraded me to 3Mbps, then just recently, to 4Mbps. I've actually seen the SpeedTest report max out at over 4.5Mbps here. All the while, I've never had to pay for a single extra repair (save for the modem taken out by lightning, but then insurance paid for that) and my cost has stayed constant -- even though they've improved the service!

I've never had a single problem with delayed or non-delivered email.

I can't say enough positive about Knology. I've had Comcast before, and Knology's speed (at least when I transitioned) was at least 30% better.

Perhaps the bad reviews on this site are because of older cables going to users' homes?

Ive been with Knology since day 1 after the run of cable outside my home was put up. Over 8 years in total. What follows is the truth about Knology in a condensed format.

Initially, when getting cable modem service with Knology so many years ago, I was extremely happy.. I went from dial-up service with Mindspring (which was very reliable for dial up) to always on 3 Megs down service.. It was GREAT.. for a while...

Then problems started. Repeated trips by repeated techs. Nothing ever got fixed. Yelling at the top of my e-lungs, I was finally able to get a answer for why their network started sucking. Something to the effect of the "hybrid" modem system they used. They told me and told me over and over that it would be fixed with the advent of a "new" system they were going to implement. I was glad they were going to fix it, however, I was unhappy that I was paying full price for something that really... I mean REALLY started sucking.

Time went by, they did fix it. Years went by with no problems at all, then suddenly, speeds started dropping, and in January of this year, severe packet loss.

I was told point blank by the tech that this would be fixed. A week has gone by since they upgraded a piece of equipment. It seems the tech was right. Im posting a speedtest I just did a little while ago below

Moral of the story? Maybe its that all ISP's have trouble from time to time. But as far as Knology goes, 8 years, 2 big issues, both finally resolved (not resolved very FAST) but at least they were resolved.

Worth getting? Yes.
Perfect all the time? No.

Today a tech finaly came out to check on the service. I have been
calling them about the slow speeds since I switched from Bellsouth to
Knology in November after trying for months to get 4mb service from
BS with no luck.

The speed was no faster then with BS so I started running tests every
couple of days and never got above 1.4mbs. So today the tech came,
checked things out and called me at work. Basically this is what he
said:

"there is nothing wrong with your service. This past Wednesday we
were told that a new ATM and CMTS were on order and should be
installed around April (the ATM) and the new CMTS some time after
that. This is what is needed to resolve the issue."

He went on to explain this has been a problem for some time and that
there are more then 800 service tickets open because the issue is un-
resolvable. On Wed. tech's were instructed to close out these tickets
even though there is no resolution. He continued to explain that the
CMTS currently serving Prattville uses cards designed to connect to
200 customer modems (supporting up to 4mbs). But that Knology has
continued to add connections beyond this capacity with an average
card now support approximately 400 modems.

Customer service has done nothing but give me the run around. So I
have sent a letter of disgust to the FCC and have begun to vigorously
document the continually disappointingly slow speeds using the
Knology speed test.

When I asked for an ongoing credit until the issue was resolved I was
informed that that was not possible, and that it was my
responsibility to monitor the quality of the service and contact them
in the event that I wanted any sort of credit. Beyond that I am not
guaranteed 4mbs service, but instead the service may be as fast as up
to 4mbs.

So in closing, I pay for 4mbs service that is not possible to
deliver. They continue to role out 4mbs service knowing that they can not
deliver this. As a business owner I would be out of business and sued
into the next lifetime if I tried to charge for something I knew I
couldn't deliver, and then delivered less then half of what my
clients pay for.

How is it possible that the FCC and the state of Alabama allow such
business practices to continue unabated?
