Hello, I am writing to provide a review of Omnicity Broadband internet for
rural areas.
Let me start by saying that we had reliable consistent service for the first 8-10 months, speeds were good, and cost was comparable ($40-50/month). However, we were then suddenly and then inexplicably without service, which was never restored. Apparently, Omnicity was illegally providing service off a tower (the owner of which they were, and I believe still are, in a legal battle with). Omnicity was not forthcoming regarding the reason for the
outage, but were clear that it could be days, weeks, or even months until service was restored. This was specifically a huge issue for me, as I telecommute, and MUST have high speed internet access to perform my job. I explained this to them, and while they sent technicians out a few times (within a day of reported issues each time) to redirect our signal to a new tower as their equipment required "line of sight" connections, they were unable to get a good connection that would provide any kind of reliable service.
Finally, (and I'm sure against the directions of his organization) as I was desperate and in tears, explaining that this internet issue was going to result in the loss of my job, the technician hinted that there was another internet provider in the area, and provided a name. While the technician was not correct in the name of the other organization providing service, after many desperate phone calls with other rural providers, I found the right company and discovered that, indeed, it was his tower from which they had been providing me service illegally. He was able to quickly provide me service - cheaper, faster and more reliable - than Omnicity ever provided.
Finally, after I officially cancelled my service with Omnicity, I had to contact them several times regarding my final bill, as I didn't feel I should have to pay given that for the last 2-3 weeks I had NO service, or very limited and unreliable service. They did relent on this point.
However, they did not ever contact me about picking up their equipment. I called them and emailed them about returning equipment, even leaving it available to be picked up. They never responded or otherwise contacted me to pick up their equipment. Eventually, I stopped pursuing this. We actually moved and rented the home where service was provided. Then, months later, they contacted me saying that we never returned the equipment. I explained the equipment was still on the tower at the residence (and another item was left inside the residence), but that we no longer lived there. I advised that they could pick up the equipment and to contact the people in the house (and provided contact information). Then, with no other contact, we received a bill for 'unreturned equipment'. Upon calling them, they indicated they were able to get the equipment from the tower but other equipment was not returned. This customer service individual appeared unaware that we provided contact information for the new residents, and also would not return to get equipment. We must pay the bill or ship the equipment back on our own dime.
Long story, short. They are not professional, with poor communication, and obviously poor tracking. They were willing to allow me to lose my job, instead of helping me provide a solution to my internet issue. Anyone should be quite cautious if working with Omnicity, especially given their present financial status.
Feel free to contact me with additional questions.
Angela Piper

well it finally happened.
Those of us who have dealt with this dreadful company all knew it was only a matter of time, and finally they are bankrupt.

 | | Omnicity Internet We live on a ridge in the middle of nowhere, and our service has been good, other than a days long outrage over summer after some devastating lightning. We've been with Om since they took over Lightspeed several months ago, and we've found their staff to be very courteous and helpful. Outages have been rare and very short, with the exception of the one spoken of above. | |

Is anyone following up with Omnicity's news? It seems like the company is doomed and it is on the verge of bankruptcy. The company has been very unscrupulous with its business partners, customers and even with its employees. I had Omnicity and canceled it after I got tired of their horrible and unreliable service. Please stay away from them. Even it is free it's not worth it. We should not be doing businesses with the companies where there is no ethics. Please check out the following link in order to get more information about them:

We had broadband for several years before hearing of Omnicity, and it was when they bought out our service.Omnicity is the most unreliable company I have dealt with. Our previous company was an individually owned company with EXCELLENT service that was purchased by Omnicity. The first letter to customers was telling how they could *invest* in the company. Uh-oh. That was a tip off.
Every time they purchase another company, you can count on 3-5 days of nominal e-mail service, if any as the new company is integrated to the Omnicity servers. SPAM has SKYROCKETED, eventhough they have a spam-guard (which I use extensively, though of little use). Can't get on their website for a proxy server to retrieve mail when e-mail server is down. So if you have any business you do by e-mail, get a Yahoo account.
BB goes out when there are storms, hot, you name it. Service goes down at peak times of day; unreliable.
BUT.
When you live in the country, you are stuck with this growing monopoly. No choice!
Oh for the days of our old provider, who had techs that would talk you through a problem instead of the generic "tower issues", etc that are the standard remarks patrons receive when calling to see why they have no internet. They have yet to upgrade our receiver, which was supposed to be done back when there was snow on the ground.
Another annoying issue is the never-ending phone-tree messages that you are forced to listen to; plus try and find their phone number if you did not save the original letter! It's not out there! (866) 586-1518...just in case....
If you have ANY CHOICE.....AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

 | | Omnicity complaint I agree, avoid at all cost....I have been with them since the end of May, and will be getting rid of them after this month. Service is terrible, going out daily and at other times slower than dial up. Customer service is non existent. I was with Hughes before, and I guess will be going back to them. | |

We tried another WIFI company, then a 2G solution, then Omnicity WIFI. We ordered the residential package up to 1Mb download w/static IP address. Total cost $39.95 per month ($34.94 service, $5.00 ip). From call to install was 3 business days as claimed. Installer knew what he was doing and was prepared - BUT the installer was a contractor, not from Omnicity.
Ordered 12/15/09 - solid the first 28 days. 1/13/10 the outages started. Initially tech support answered the phone - and to their credit tech support did return most calls within 24 hours. The administrative offices did not return calls.
The explanation was "tower issues" "upgrades" "new equipment". They basically had "no specific information" about what the "plans" were by administration to address the issues.
Outages were commonly during day and peak hours - and NEVER announced. In addition to outages, the times during this period when service was available it was choppy and very erratic.
Between 1/13/10 and 2/1/10 we noted these outages: 1/13/10: 19 hours 1/14/10: 15 hours 1/15/10: 7.5 hours 1/21/10: 7 hours 1/28/10: 6.5 hours 1/29/10: 24 hours 1/30/10: 24 hours 1/31/10: 24 hours 2/1/10: 19 hours
At this point I have filed complaints with the BBB (Omnicity receives a grade of "F" from BBB and is NOT a BBB supporting business), and the FCC.
STAY AWAY from Omnicity and wait for cable to be in your area.

$30 per month "Better than other options (dial-up), good price, decent speed" "Connection runs slower at night" "Definitely worth it for those in dial-up country."

I live in a rural area outside of Lapel, Indiana. I've had dial-up for years because, quite frankly, no other options were available besides ridiculously priced satellite internet. So when I heard about Omnicity, I was very excited. I wrote an email to them saying that I was interesting, and they made a no-charge visit to my house to determine whether or not my location was eligible for their service.
Fortunately, it was available. One week later two friendly workers showed up for the installation ($150). It went very smoothly and took perhaps 90 minutes. This was about three weeks ago. Since then I've had no problems at all. My d/l speeds range from 900kb/s to 1.1mb/s with u/l speeds around .4mb/s. It isn't the speed of light, but I can stream videos and music and make reasonable downloads so that makes me happy. I've yet to experience any connection downtime or any problems at all.
I would recommend it.

$30 per month "Honestly, I can't think of any" "Tech support, daily outages, poor service" "Omnicity is not worth the money and frustration you will surely endure if you sign up"

We have been with Omnicity since early this year, and have had constant problems since Day 1. We live in a rural area and need high speed internet for our jobs as we both work from home. And unfortunately Omnicity is our only option.
We have had daily outages now for a nearly a year, and Omnicity simply doesn't care. They seem to think that it isn't a big deal that their service just doesn't work. We have called countless times, written several emails to both Omnicity and to REMC who is selling it locally. All of our attempts at some answers go nowhere.
Last night we had a 6 hour outage, and today we just came off of a 1 hour outage. We have been recording our downtime since September, and have over 3 sheets of paper now of times. This is typical of Omnicity. And to make matters worse, they don't even have 24/hour tech support anymore. They seem to think that problems only happen between 8am-6pm Mon-Fri. If your service goes out any other time, to bad, you'll have to wait till the next day or Monday to actually speak with someone. And if you call and leave a message when it asks you to leave your name and number for a return call from them, don't bother. They won't return your call, they never have with us.
We were promised some credit on our account becuase of the literally 100's of hours of downtime, and that never went through. They simply wont acknowledge we even called about it. We were told the network was going to be finished and the outages would be eliminated back in September, well here we are in December and nothing has changed. Our question to them was "if the network isn't yet complete, then why are you open for business?" They had no answer to that. The fact that their network isn't complete yet and you WILL face constant outages until they decide to finish it is a littel detail they "forget" to mention when you sign up.
Bottom line: Don't waste your time and money and frustration on Omnicity. If you have another option, take it. Omnicity has been such a huge headache for all of us in this area, and there seems to be no solution in the near future, as we have been told countless lies by them about when things will improve and it never happens.

$29 per month about 12 days "Price, Overall Service (when it's working)" "Customer support, Unreliablilty, Unstable Connections" "We've had more problems in 1 month with Omnicity than we had with dialup over 6 years."

We signed up with Omnicity in mid-Jan because of their special new rates. The service was great for the first week...then it went downhill from there. The 2nd week we had approx 10 days of little or no service, the 3rd week we had approx 3 days of no service. At night, we were lucky to connect at 20k speeds, if we could connect at all. We spent hours on the phone with customer support and received no real answers other then constant excuses. We finally were told by the CEO of our local provider that they were simply overloaded with new customers that they couldnt handle. Now over 1.5 months later, we are still faced with at least 2 outages/week, and no real answers as to when it will be fixed. In addition, our modem needs to be re-set at least 2-3 times daily, which is not typical of dsl modems. Omnicity's customer support is simply the WORST support we have every dealt with. On average, expect to spend at least 30-40 mins on hold, then only to be answered by a switchboard operater who tells you there are no available technitions. WHen she asks if you would like them to return your call, don't waste your time. After 6 so-called return calls we were supposed to receive, we have yet to receive one. Omnicity is a good service when it's actually working properly. Otherwise, it's a total waste of time and money. They have a lot of work to do.

Speed Ordered: 768/256 DHCP dynamic ips by default, for $5 more was able to get a static ip. The equipment installed consisted of a Ripwave modem and a Maxrad antenna, first installer (inexperienced and unprepared) was a night mare to work with from day one when he failed to bring all needed equipment so had to reschedule. Second day he shows up (3hrs after scheduled time) had problems getting signal. Had to reschedule, didnt show up the next time. I contacted company they sent an experienced installer out, who solved my problems and I got all my install and equipment for free, plus the first month for free as well.
Also had problems with not getting advertised speed i ordered or a static ip. After a couple of phone calls and some emails all was taken care of. Installer brought me a modem configured in there routers for someone else base speed and no static.
Since then all has been great, been very happy. Works great with my Vonage service and my gameplay is better then has ever been.
