I've had the wireless 1500k package for around a year, and wow is it nice. I previously had wild blue and was absolutely disgusted after spending around $250 for horrible internet.

The installation took around an hour which was way better than the four hour wild blue installation. Since then I have had virtually no problems. Although I have a couple drop outs while playing an online game. Overall the service is great!! Finally a reliable high speed connection!!!

  • Paso Robles,San Luis Obispo,CA
  • Contract price not specified.
  • "DSL is now available?"
  • "frequent outages, slow speeds"
  • "avoid 'em"
Connection reliability:

CIC Wireless was an up and coming WISP in SLO County -- seemingly until the tragic death of co-owner and lead tech, Jason Hearn, last December. Since that time, the network has suffered numerous outages. As I write this, the entire network has been down for over 5 full days. I cannot imagine many customers sticking with them after this one! Their explanation for this outage went like this, "We put a new server in, then we had to put the old one back, then we put the new one back, then we had to put the old one back again." Seriously. Their recording now states that they've finally called in "extra help" to get the problem resolved tonight.

Clearly, CIC does not possess the essential WISP management knowledge and/or proper equipment (including redundancy) to be in this business. It is truly unfortunate to see this once promising company implode.

I was pleasingly shocked to learn today that SBC/AT&T is now claiming to have DSL available at my rural Paso Robles address. I'll just be holding my breath until my activation date next week.

The speed up and down is great when it's working, unfortunately it's down far too frequently. The service comes with a backup dialup account, which I have to use now just to post the review.

Sign up with them so there are more people complaining about the service, maybe they'll improve it.

  • Shandon,San Luis Obispo,CA
  • $59 per month
  • (24 month contract)
  • about 15 days
  • SBC
  • "high speed where no one else offers"
  • "Ping is horrable, down every weekend no tech support after hours"
  • "dont get it"

I ordered the 512/512 package. I live in shandon. When it was installed it seemed to work decent. the ping times were averaging about 100ms. not bad the price i thought was high but it is 512/512 and i know upload is expensive. they had some hicups when installing but thats normal. they installed a bridge on the roof in a weather shielded box with a grid antenna. they ran one eithernet cable down into the house and used power over eithernet. the ip seems to be static but i keep it on dhcp because thats what they said to do.

a few days later it all when to the dumps. i get dropped normaly for 30 mins at a time. i have been dropped every weekend (almost) since i signed the 2 year lease. from 6 pm on fri till monday morning. When i call there phone system has many selections... customer service, sales, tech support, operator.. but you only get one person. the lady doesnt know much and she is nice so i try not to be mean. but the speeds are as slow as dialup some times for hours.. i try to play online MMORPG's and i have the worst time. I try to MIRC. i get disconected every few mins. I try to download music .. it disconects... i try ebay.. i get page not found ( no connection ) its getting unfair. i call and they say they just saw the problem and are fixing it. changing some settings... but it doesnt help. the worst part is when it goes down for a long time i cant call anyone to tell them so they can fix it. i realize if they knew they would but they dont... so im screwed. I would recomend no one use CIC wireless till they can fix there problems with there poor customer service and poor service at least in shandon

Steve
