Had an issue with the supplied Netgear routers. Had two replacements sent to find it was the cable modem causing the issues. Online support were great but phone support is very poor, the people at the other end don't know what they are talking about (Indian call centre).
TV is great, little slow on the TV guide compared to Sky but more bang for bucks with the On Demand services and movie rentals.
Phone, well its a phone!
Installation was great. Guys that did the install removed their shoes before entering my property every time, even if it was just to get a screw driver. They understood my needs (TV one room, phone another and broadband yet another).
Went for the sweet 16 package but am already thinking of upgrading to 20Mb broadband an possibly boosting the TV package as well.

I have previously used ADSL (Phoneline) connection and was happy enough but my yearning for Superfast speeds brought me to VM. I hear they are even talking about 50 Meg download speed in very near future. I joined Telewest before the VM branding and OK there was a few teething problems which can more or less be explained by the fact that most of the network was being upgraded to allow 20 MEG speeds. I am currently paying £29 per mth for the XL (20 MEG) package. Tech Support are not the best (or so I've heard) but I have never had any problems that clearing Internet Cache, checking modem/router/PC connections or rebooting everything hasn't fixed.
OK so the traffic management can be a pain if you are on the slower speeds but I think it is necessary in some form or other what with more and more people leaving bittorrent clients running 24 hours a day.
I was supplied the Motorola Surfboard SB5101E modem and have no problems getting 20 MEG speed with it. Since upgrading to 20MEG speed from 2MEG my speed has rarely been below 12MEG and is usually around 18 or 19.
I would definitely recommend if you are in a cabled area as looks like you could have 50MEG download speed for around the £29 per mth price just now and you won't get anywhere near that with ADSL (Phoneline connection) for a few millenium

Blueyonder now Virgin Media is by far the best broadband in the UK. No other company can match the speed or consistancy of cable. The only downside is if you are in an oversubscribed area. However even if you are it will still be far better than any ADSL supplier.
Outsourced Tech support is not amazing but friendly staff in retentions can always help you if you are really stuck.

| you are joking? ever since virgin media took over telewest and ntl, its going down the pan fella, worse and worse everyday..
do not sign up to virgin media, they cap your internet so they can cram as many customers as they possibly can, of course upgrading there network isnt an option for them, exsisting customers must suffer instead,, virgin media = bankrupt within 1 year, mark my words.. | |

| virgin media 20mb I agree with Marty, I've been on the XL package which is the 20mb for 2 months now and i'm getting download speeds under 100kbs despite tweaking, upgrading, following all the info on there site. I've run speedtest.net and I always get no more than 2500kbps. Its the worst service ever. Virgin media customer service is also useless. I'm writing off to watchdog and I hope other people do as we need to solve these problems with this rip off company. | |

a few weeks after telewest layed the cable past my house i had a call from their rep. never had BB before so my expectations were rather high.
less than 2 weeks later two vans turned up, one to install cable TV and the other to install BB. all went well and took about an hour.
afetr installing 3 STB they eventually found one that worked, died 3 years later, modem fitted was a Motorola SB4100 and has given me no problems what-so-ever. i didnt have a NIC card, thought it would connect through USB) so i let the engineer fit one he brought with him (Netgear).
at the time the only speed was 512 and becouse i'd never had such speeds i went a bit crazy that night and most of the week...
i forget the original cost but it was £70 install fee, my monthly bill now is just over £43 for TV & Internet over the past 5 years i have been upgraded from 512 to 4meg all for free. i kept my phone with BT because i have the low user tariff which is cheaper than TW phone and if i wanted to change ISP's i can have ADSL.
was told BY use dynamic IP's but my IP hasnt changed in over a year.
only called support a few times and problems have always been sorted in one call.
i have nothing bad to say about BY or TW but now Telewest and NTL have merged the future looks questionable. i would still recommend them though.

I've been with this ISP since Dec 2001. I'd originally tried to get ADSL but my phone line wouldn't support it. I lived 40ft outside the cable network, and it took me a year to convince them to extend the cable. I was desperate, it was my only route to broadband at the time and I very nearly packed in @ 56kbps. Telewest (Blueyonder) met me 50-50 with costs to extend the cable in the end and finally in Dec 2001 a Surfboard SB4100 sat shining on my desk and I had broadband at last, 512-128kbps. At the time that was the only speed available, but after enduring 56k it was like a breath of fresh air.
It took a long time from ordering to completion as they were very busy with demand at the time but the install process was flawless being completed in about an hour. I believe completion time is only a matter of days now.
The service is dynamic IP. Static IP is only available to leased line customers sadly, but as long as you leave your connected pc, or router on 24/7 then the IP address remains the same. The only time my IP address has ever changed was when connecting a piece of equipment with a different MAC address. The actual lease time for the IP address is 24hrs.
Over time the speed has increased (sometimes with extra charges) to 1024-256, then 2048-256 and now it's 4096-384k but soon it's to be 10Mbps-384kbps at no extra charge.
One of the major good points with this ISP is that there are no download caps whatsoever, unlike rival, and new owner :-( Ntl, who impose ridiculously low caps on their users.
Recently my SB4100 developed a suspected fault so it's been replaced with an SB5101e.
The only problem I have with them is that (lately) I find I have to keep manually moving upstream channels to get a good speed. This has only happened since I went from 2Mbit to 4Mbit.
In conclusion I would rather have this cable always on connection than the dial up type ADSL. If you live in a Telewest area then go for it.

I am lucky enough to be in a Telewest Broadband ( »www.blueyonder.co.uk ) service area.
I was initially due installation on a Monday, however on the Wednesday before I received a phone call asking whether I had time the next day to have it fitted. As you can guess I jumped at the chance
When the installer came I told him that the PCs were only in a temporary location, and he kindly gave me enough cable to route the modem anywhere in the house I saw fit.
The installation went smoothly, with the installer being within the allotted time.
I ordered a TV/phone/internet package: TV »www.telewest.co.uk/websales/product.do?id Phone »www.telewest.co.uk/websales/prod···?id=3001 Internet »www.telewest.co.uk/websales/prod···?id=3246
As a group, I pay approximately 60 GBP per month.
The internet speed is 4Mb/sec, and will soon be upgraded for free to 10Mb/s.
I get a nice ping time and stable download speeds.
I was supplied with a Motorola sb5101e cable modem.
The IP address is advertised as dynamic, yet I have had the same IP address since day one, some months ago.
I have had occasion to call them a couple of times when my cable modem stopped working, a freephone number, and the calls took between 15 and 20 minutes, but did solve the problem (the problem being at their end, not mine).
The only negative I have about the company is the habit they have of sending nasty letters about overdue bill payments every month, even though the bill had been paid in full, and on time. They may want to look into that, automated billing letters are one thing, but threatening letters as a matter of course makes me wonder just how many people don't pay the bill on time, or at all..
The site says I have only visited a few times, this is actually incorrect - I frequently visit but normally I just don't log in.

Have been with blueyonder for around 3 years. Can't complain, its good value for UK broadband, the service is very reliable.
Yes, the upload speed is horrible. Although, I am awaiting my upgrade to 4mb (have been waiting 3 days now) but nothing yet.
A big incentive for me to upgrade to 4mb was the price cut that's coming (£35/month) for 10mb. TEN MEGABYTES. Thats an insane connection speed for the price.
Currently on 1mb. Servces me ok.
The installer didnt really know what he was doing, he messed up my windows 98 trying to install the drivers. Also, box at the wall that connects to the modem was secured with very poor screws, needless to say it has now completely severed itself from the wall and I am waiting for a tech to repair it.
Still a good service.

Been using them since they started high speed connections, ordered the 512Kb service which has now been upgraded to 1Mb free of charge.
From initial order date both the internet connection, and the other services were installed within the week, have moved address since initial install relocation was done the same day and no break of service.
Currently subscribed at £25 per month for the internet connection which included the lease for the modem,
After various free upgrades, am now using the 4mb service, still no problems.
