cheap, good download speed, speed stays same
Slow compared to cable.
Good for basic internet needs and watch, downloading stuff, but if hardcore find something faster.

good service and good speeds, tech support sucks but whats new. I have 3Mbps down and 500 Up. it does the job well and stays true to that speed. For anyone looking for cheap speed....this is it.

So after Suddenlink Communcations purchased Cox Communication and moved to a new backbone cable highspeed internet service has suffered here in Abilene Texas. Many outages and speed has dropped off. After months of dealing with it I ordered AT&T Elite DSL....Well I was too far away from Remote Terminal or Central Office or whatever that determines how fast your connection can be. So i went with Pro. Cool......no wait...Not Cool. Ended up getting Express. Still Not cool. At first I was very displeased and felt cheated. Who wouldn't after having 5 meg Cable INET for the last 3 years and one of the main reasons I even bothered with DSL was to get the 6meg Elite..... Well after I calmed down and cleared the thoughts of smashing the modem into small unrecognizable pieces and shipping them back to AT&T with a nasty note inside I decided to see how the service would work FOR me. Not just how I wanted it to be. After I got the Siemens Speedstream modem hooked up to my IPCOP Linux Router and updated my No-ip.com settings for my dynamic IP address I fired up my SSH tunnel into work and started my Remote Desktop connection to my work pc. All seemed normal. Next I started Counter Stike Source in online mode and I'll be darned....my pings were lower........WHAT???? I'm on the near bottom of the barrel DSL and my pings are lower???? So i played for a bit then did a speed test. I was getting 1294kbps down (of my 1500) and 319 up (of my 384). Not the best and you can tell it is capped low because it is so steady at those speeds. The best thing about this service is the consistent ping times, Very Steady. Actually better for gaming then Suddenlink's Services at the time of this writing. This is by no means saying that DSL is better then cable. Justing saying that right now, where I live it seems to be better for gaming and hopefully reliability. What I am saying is that it seemed much smoother for gaming and surfing in general as long as you don't have to download a large file. Now if Suddenlink decides to fix their network and stop pumping San Angelo, Abilene and Lubbock over one backbone and over 650 miles of private fiber before it gets to the internet in Tyler Texas I'm sure it will be better then AT&T. Like it was before the backbone move. I wish I could review the faster services, but at this point I can't. I'm sure this is due to the fact that this area was one of the first to get DSL in our town so the equipment is old.

All in all I am satisfied. Not Happy Jumping With Joy, but rather just satisfied. If you order services from AT&T you really can't tell what you will get until you have the connection setup and running. They don't know for sure until they press the submit button on your order if you can get the services you ordered and in my case I didn't know till I set it up. Also, Elite DSL in Abilene is a mythical creature from my understanding and doesn't exist in any of the circles that I run with. So I you are lucky you can get Pro. If you can catch a unicorn you can have 6megs of glorious Elite DSL.

I would recommend AT&T to a friend for value and being the best highspeed service you can get as of now. That could all change though. I hear Suddenlink is talking about 9meg. Kinda stupid considering they can't handle their traffic right with 4 and 5 meg connections, but we will see.

Got tired with the Time Warner mess after the Adelphia mess. I was never too much of a DSL person, especially since most DSL services required contracts. We've had phone service with ATT for a long time and I decided that maybe it's time to give up on Time Warner (Yeah, I was pissed off at them).

Ordered the service, on the online order form it said the installation would be available within 14 days, a week later the date changed which now made it to 18 days from the date that I ordered. I was a little concerned about installing the CD that comes with Modem Package, I've always seen BAD STUFF when repairing other people computers that installed the SBC software...... But it seems everything went fine. I didn't install any of the content from the CD except what was needed to install the modem.

Hooked up all the filters on my phone lines and I was up and running within 20 minutes or so. Didn't have to call Cust. Service during installation as it was fairly simple for me to do.

After using the service for over 6 months now I am very satisfied. The deals that ATT are dishing out with NO contracts are great, I wouldn't have moved to DSL if I had to sign a contract and the price for the elite package was the same if I were to sign a contract.

The only real bad thing I have to say about them is that when you call customer service they always seem impatient to help you. and POP/SMTP names could have been shorter and easier to remember. the email address that I got was @sbcglobal but now the switched all their server to the ATT name so it becomes a headache when dealing with settings. I just use my other email addresses gmail/yahoo/hotmail etc.

Originally ordered 1.5mb in June 2000. Upgraded to 3.0 then 6.0 with ease. I can count service interruptions on one hand over the 7 years and a couple of them were due to my pots line problems. During Mon-Fri I'm connected at least 10-12 hours per day.

3000kbs down/512kbs up
Usually see above 2000 down and 400 up.

Rarely ever have down time.

Using a 2wire modem/wireless router, which works fabulously. A couple setup tweaks to be able to use vpn into work.

Previously I've tried to setup my own wireless network with a Linksys router and never had any luck. With the router they sent, it was plug and play.

I will never switch back to cable!

1.) I also considered charter cable but they had not set up a cable internet package when I got this most recent SBC\yahoo\at&t package.

Just recently I found out that I may be able to get speakeasy in my neck of the woods and I may be switching to them because so far the reviews have been favorable.

2.) I got the pro package which is the 3.0 Mbs Dwn\512 up which was at the time cause of a deal only 19.99 a month with a 1 year contract. I think it was regularly 29.99 at the time but it may be 24.99 now. ( the 37.98 in the monthly cost field is my total phone bill with various discounts i hope that is what you wanted in that box.)

3.)They took a little extra time switching on the service and the phone conversations i had with tech and customer support were very pleasing for me the tech guy even made me laugh if I recall. Still they were late on turning it on. but after that it ran great for the past 2 to 3 years until the end of may 07.

4.)They supplied me with the 2wire HP1800 4 port router modem with optional wireless capabilities, which has been a solid device for my home network.

5.) This current experience has left me a little raw since it has been happening for 2 days now with no change in sight. I have had email and am about to have an on line chat with there support team and if this won't resolve it I will contact them by phone.

Overall I don't hate SBC\Yahoo\at&t my speeds are pretty reliable at about 2.6 mb i know its not the full 3.0 but what dsl service is! In my opinion they aren't the evil company some make them out to be and I have been with them on this DSL thing since they introduced there 512Kb lines and I haven't switched yet. they have always been my phone service provider and they never screwed me there either.
