I have had AT&T DSL since Sept. 2005. Now have 6.0/768 for only $19.95! During that time, I've only had 2 or 3 issues, which were caused only by flooding/water in the lines. Speeds are consistently in the 5.6 Mbps/690 Kbps area. The original order back in 2005 was completed within 5 business days, which was wonderful. I had a SpeedStream 4100 modem but, switched to a Netgear DGN2000 modem/router. I would really like to get the 6.0/768 package with static ip's but, my bill would go from $19.95 to nearly $100. I am extremely pleased with the service - during the 6-years I've had the service, I have NEVER had to contact support.

My Other Reviews

·AT&T Midwest
Lately, whenever an AT&T truck is in our neighborhood and works on the box at the end of my street, I lose DSL. Last time, they told me it was my modem, so I spent $100 on a new modem. No change. Then they replaced the lines from my phone box into my house. No change. Turned out someone from AT&T disconnected my line at the box.

Last night, another AT&T truck was at the box, and I've lost service again.

When it runs, it's great, but this is getting OLD.

At one time DSL was a price leader and good option. With stagnent speeds, no upgrades, huge price increases and insanely low caps it is apparent AT&T not only does not want this business they are dong there utmost to kill it. Some of us are not offered Uverse and even if we were I doubt I or others being likewise treated would be eager to go with this bottom of class vendor.

I wish I had read all the excellent reviews already on yelp about the
absolute terrible service that AT&T provides.

1) although modem was sent and recieved next day instalation of service was to
be 10 days later. somthing that was not mentioned at time of order.

2) activation of service did not happen as promised.

3) repeated phone calls to AT&T were no help at all. I was cosistantly told
someone would fix the issue tommorrow.

4) customer service reps that answer the phone boldly out and out lie to
you. I cought them in there lies several time and they only studdered a
moment when trying to explain the lie before telling me another lie.

5) i was connected to a supervisor who sounded just like the original rep
only to have him forget to use the supervisor name later in the conversation
and revert back to the name he used when originally taking the call.

6) there was never at any time over the week that I tried to get service any
action to rectify the issue. no one ever came to hook me up, no one ever
tried to call me back to tell me about any delay that was ongoing. no one
(according to the rep on the phone) ever filled out a service ticket
explaining what the problem was in activating my service.

7)during the final call (a call to completely cancel service) after I told
the rep that i would be posting my complaints on every public venue i could
find, the rep told someone would be contacting me to discuss my bad
experience because they really do care about their reputation. that call
never was never placed either.

In short if you read this before contacting AT&T and you dont heed this
warning about the absolute terrible service you will get, i can promise you
you will be extreamly dissatisfied and as disgusted as I am.

Absolutely horrible service. AT&T really needs to work on their organization
because due to their incompetency I'm left to deal with this nightmare of an
issue. I opened an account with Dish Network and my agent asked me if I was
interested in AT&T U-verse internet. She specifically told me that an AT&T
agent would call me to discuss different internet packages before placing in
an order. But WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTIFICATION OR CONTACT (never received a call from them), AT&T placed an UNAUTHORIZED
order using my credit card on U-verse internet. Upon seeing a "pending order" email from AT&T, I immediately called to cancel. However, I then had to call in THREE more
times to repeatedly cancel the order, because I kept receiving "Your order
is pending" emails. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with AT&T?? On top of
all this, they STILL sent me a modem/router in the mail - after I had
already called to "cancel" my order FOUR times. I have to go out of my way now
to return their shit. AT&T if you are reading this, I am truly
disappointed/disgusted with your service.

We tried AT&T in hopes their DSL would have better latency under load than another smaller provider in our area. Our loads are well under what AT&T claims in its marketing. It didn't come through. Worse, when I called AT&T tech support, they wanted to charge us for troubleshooting their lines.

- Mom wanted a bundle :-( so no alternate ISPs were considered.
- The ordering experience was confusing. AT&T's online 'account manager' is bare bones primitive and very sales oriented; it is difficult to discern what options you have for any service including DSL or what recurring detail costs can be monitored.
- The original 768kbps DSL offer included a rebate on the required (and outrageously high) Siemens modem purchase price but it was never received despite multiple contacts. Be advised that AT&T handles many sub-services and offers through separate 'departments' that barely communicate with each other; indeed, some of these may be contractors.
- No lifetime modem warranty/exchange was offered with unbundled service as with other ISPs.
- No free customer controlled port filtering was included as with other ISPs.
- No free/low cost anti-malware software was offered as with other ISPs.
- Wireless firewall router was offered at an excessive purchase price. So much for Big Telco volume discount.
- Data caps are now included. Apparently AT&T can't be bothered to increase minimally their network capacity to support a few measly 1.5Mbps DSL circuits simultaneously.
- The self service modem and filter installation went smoothly.
- AFAIK service has been reliable.
- Surprisingly, U-Verse service is NOT available in this now very affluent zip code.

*****UPDATE*****

7-15-2011

3 months into 150 gb cap. Can't do it. impossible to stay under. Uverse is not available here, only advantage would be not as much of an overage fee woopdie doo. Five users 2 netflix accounts. Speed is still good but whats the point if I can't do what I want without going over. Averaging 3 to 4 gb in ATT's billing window. As soon as something else is available I am quitting ATT DSL Elite after being with them for almost ten years.

Moved my service after 8 years and upgraded to Elite. line switched as promised on the scheduled day. speed was capped at 2Mbs down. customer service never processed order for Elite speed. took 3 more calls over 2 days to confirm my order. 800 tech support told me I needed to ramp up speed again because its a "New Line?" and to just wait. One actually hung up on me. bottom line...for technical support skip the 800 numbers come straight to the forums.

came here to ATT direct forums. Posted my problem. less than 24 hours later Fixed. Done. 6Mbs down.

****UPDATE****
170 days into Elite service and still going good. some periodic swarms of disconnects and out of syncs.

quick screen shot from speedtest.net

quick screen shot from pingtest.net

during test 1 computer was streaming netflix and son was playing world of warcraft on the other.

connected during test:

2 PC's on wire
2 laptops on wireless
2 android smartphones on wireless
1 PSP on wireless

not bad.

I have the DSL Extreme 6.0 @ $35/mo and actually get pretty close due to FTTC in my neighborhood. Install was easy and tech support has been pretty good once you get past the operators. I've had it for 3 years now but reliability went down last summer. Now whenever there's a lightning storm in the area, phone & DSL go down for a day or more until a tech replaces/resets some boards in the neighborhood box. I went with DSL because cable had a very weak signal in our neighborhood and was much more expensive. Now TWC has become quite favorable. If AT&T could fix the equipment I'd stay. But reliability is a big factor for me.
